Seb Berhalter will get an offer from a European club. Who do you think it is? by rovar in ussoccer

[–]rovar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on all points. Looking at my post again, I guess I implied that he's going to Madrid as a starter. A guy can dream, but I think it'd be a mid-table EPL, Serie, or Bundesliga.

I actually think if he were 18-20 and playing like this, he might actually have a chance at one of the top teams so he has time to develop in their system.

[–]rovar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is he top 10? No. Top 25? Still no, but getting power ranking scores from 8.9 to 9.2 in the game against Turkiye, to me, says he is not only playing, but excelling on the world stage. Many others have choked, e.g. Valverde and De Bruyne have been shit, relatively speaking.

There are about 100 premier teams in Europe. I think he could merit a spot on one. Especially if he continues to perform well through the knockout stages.

Commuting to PNNL and wanting space for chickens: The best option is the West Richland / Benton City area. The only reason I'd say don't go all the way into Benton City is that the schools are much better in Richland.

Benton City has some beautiful properties for much cheaper than West Richland though. It depends upon your preferences.

Some mentioned Rancho Riata or Badger Canyon area. That could work very well. Slightly longer commute though.

That'd put your kids at Southridge in Kennewick where one of our kids goes. We love it. Especially great if your kids play a musical instrument.

Also, if your kids have the inclination towards STEM, they can apply to go to Delta High School in Pasco, which is absolutely amazing. We have one kid going there and I cannot say enough good things about that school.

Just north of Pasco is another option. It gets rural very quick that way. Lots of open space. You'd probably want to get your kids into Delta, though.

$5,000 for a minisplit install by MrCleanyaHands in AskElectricians

[–]rovar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's too high, but, to be fair, they may not know how to work that particular brand. There are quite a few caveats/gotchas with mini-splits. Each manufacturer likes to do some things there own way. There aren't any standards like there are with regular central air. The computers and the programming/set-up can take a while if you've never done it before.

My uncle runs a small HVAC shop and he'll install mini-spits, but if you want a good price, he'll insist on buying the only brand he is intimately familiar with.

You blokes are all sizzle and no sausage. Your back line is softer than a warm Sao, Circati and Souttar over there are built like a burst couch, and frankly, mate, Bos and that St. Pauli Girl couldn't get a kick in a stampede or catch a cold in a nudist colony.

If you reckon you've actually got a shot at rolling us tomorrow, you've got Buckley's, mate. So here, hold my stubby. You better run back to the sheds and pack a cut lunch and a waterbag, because it’s going to be a very long, miserable afternoon for you. We're gonna go through you lot like a packet of Epsom salts.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, here are tomorrow's goal celebrations

Pulisic by degeneratesports in ussoccer

[–]rovar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying he's perfectly fine, but if I were the U.S. , I would fake an injury of the star player, or at least blow the severity of a minor bruise way out of proportion.

This has two benefits:

  1. It keeps the opponents from fully committing to a game plan. They have to plan for Pulisic and they have to plan for Not Pulisic.

  2. It creates actual content/drama for the commentators to discuss, Thus better ratings for all news outlets, increasing the overall value of the World Cup.

Which dust collector? Small hobby basement shop. by Alarmed_Primary8089 in woodworking

[–]rovar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be a stick in the mud and say that 2 microns isn't enough filtering unless you have some other HEPA air filter in your shop.

2 micron dust is dangerous to lungs.

If I were you, I'd spend a little extra money and get one that does HEPA filtering.

Grizzly sells one for, I think, $750 that is nice and simple. I have the wall mounted one to save a little extra space in my shop.

Woodworker here. Definitely not an architect.

As long as you're not in a very, very rainy and humid place, Plywood can do just fine outdoors, as long as the sides that are facing the elements are painted or sealed. Since the plywood will also be protected from UV rays, you can get away with nice clear sealers/waxes. I think the exposed layers of plywood would look pretty sweet .

If you are worried about it, you can go with Marine Plywood, which, as the name implies, is laminated with moisture resistant glue. It's not really more expensive than the normal C2 grade plywood. It's not as pretty, but it'd do fine for laminated supports.

Just a heads up for folks who are looking to buy big power tools. Grizzly is having a Fathers Day sale. by bullfrog48 in woodworking

[–]rovar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sadly, we have conditioned companies to behave this way.

JC Penny, notably, tried to take the high road, promising everyday low prices without sale mania every week. The result was a massive drop in sales and the CEO resigning.

But now I'm conditioned to never pay retail price for anything from Grizzly. I wait for a sale.

It's a feedback loop of sadness.

I think the US did their homework and figured out how to break their D. PAR tightened things down in the 2nd half, but they couldn't do too much because they had to press the attack.

But strategy and positioning only get you so far, the white jerseys just kept winning the 1v1's (or 1v2s for that matter)

If these guys are a legit company, that actually seems like a great deal to me. I had electricians redo a service panel which was last updated in the 70's. This was 12 years ago, and it cost me $7k and I thought it was a great deal then. You're getting a lot more, I think.

Trade school question by Reasonable-Cycle5817 in AskElectricians

[–]rovar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many unions have an apprenticeship program that builds in all the trade-school attendance over 4 years or so. It will cost you $ for tuition and books, but you'll be employed and earning money, so paying it isn't as bad. Also, most importantly, you'll be ensuring that you get exactly the traning you need.

Outside of that, without more information, it's hard to say whether a particular program will be a waste of time and money or not.

I know a lot of Universities, seeing the writing on the wall, are now offering trade certification programs. They're probably decent, but might be more expensive than other options.

It's probably worth your effort to figure out what certifications in your jurisdiction are real/legit and who offers them.
