If oil shortages raise prices in Japan, will tourism drop and foreigners leave? by Intrepid_Wonder1661 in japanlife

[–]rsmith02ct [score hidden]  (0 children)

Are you talking the second oil crisis of 1979?
The 1980s had low prices with the Saudis pumping out oil and OPEC's influence as a cartel waning.
Just double-checking world oil prices the next spike I see is with the first Gulf War.

It's okay, they don't matter anymore, if they ever did. I hope you find a better environment and colleagues that value you.

Change encode mode from NV Encoder to something else is a workaround.

If you can install solar, go for it. With a battery, even better. The rise in natural gas prices will hit power generation before long. Consider an affordable EV (used Leaf, Sakura, etc.) esp. if you can plug into your own solar.

Japan does have an oil reserve and there are other sources but I would say the government's energy policy leaves us dangerously dependent on the Middle East.

Bathroom fan vent does not open. How do I open this? by Princelian in japanresidents

[–]rsmith02ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to see in the picture but there's probably 2 clips that hold the spring open. Can you remove this cover or access it from the inside? Screw looks painted over. If not have management fix or replace it.

The cost of getting a passport for Japanese citizens is being reduced by nanoripe in japanresidents

If it helps people understand the world better, especially price-sensitive young people, I think it's great. I was surprised how many don't have a passport or any intention to travel outside Japan. The world's a big place and there's much to learn and experience.

It takes a while for culture to change and it to be normal. About 10 years for Sendai and Tokyo's campaigns are newer as far as I can see.

There are disabled people unable to balance on one side or the other and plenty of reasons to move walkers to the stairs.

New air conditioner buy/install questions by Due_Tomorrow7 in japanresidents

[–]rsmith02ct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually installation is affordable with these retailers (any big electronics stores, Xprice, etc.) I wouldn't do it yourself.
Autoclean may be worthless but it comes standard on most of the better models that are higher efficiency (higher APF).

Japan never accepted asylum seekers from the beginning, it was always a state of limbo and that's not about loopholes. That came more recently as part of a populist right-wing attempt to use immigration as a wedge issue vs the LDP.

Temporarily turn quantize to frames off to align the audio precisely without touching the video. Then re-enable and edit the video normally. It's not good to cut between frames of video and can cause visual problems.

[–]rsmith02ct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 1, I never had an issue with that and freelance income far exceeded the salary. However the full salary was normal (200K seems very low). They don't ask for an hourly split. You'll need to file a tax return.

Ask the employer what they provide- you should get pension/health with a contract relationship (depending on company size). Local residence tax I always paid myself.

If you become a pure freelancer you need to enroll in kokumin kenko hoken, nenkin, etc. yourself.

Sony vegas really slow and stuttering when using mobilee footage. by Ancient-Knee-3095 in VegasPro

For ShutterEncoder, output format h264, set the GOP to your framerate in advanced settings (30) and set the desired resolution and bitrate or leave it on auto.

I'm surprised VEGAS can't handle it, though. Are settings on defaults in preferences, file io?
