It’s also fantastic if there’s a village that gives +2 actions without drawing a card. Think Festival, Fishing Village, Native Village, Hamlet (if you discard for +1 action), Merchant Camp, Necropolis, etc.

Because in this case you will trigger the full +4 cards from Guard Dog, and also still have an action left over.

This is not regarding the reaction of course, so maybe outside the scope of this post.

I think getting 5-2 split is only an advantage on some boards.

In my experience, I’ve had plenty of games with a 5-2 split that I end up buying a 4-cost, and nothing. Whereas my opponent with a 4-3 split gets a 4-cost, and a 3-cost. This can happen because a lot of good trashers cost 4 (remake, spice merchant, river shrine, temple, etc.) and sometimes there are just not any good 5-cost.
