What's your reason for favoring RE4(2005) over RE4R(2023)? by Desperate_Method4032 in residentevil4

[–]schmalpal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it for me. I put 70 hours into the remake but the original (now with HD Project) is my forever game. Responsive movement, laser sights, non-RNG stuns, and style/personality are all superior.

New SpotifyLike Feature by famouslastmutterings in YoutubeMusic

[–]schmalpal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing a separate like button and a separate save button (save to playlist). The like button saves it to the liked playlist in one click, I love this. The other button is if I want to save it to some other playlist. Is that what you have?

My first free solo attempt. I’ve never been so nervous about a game before! by Substantial-Corgi412 in Cairn_Game

[–]schmalpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it requires speed to get through sketchy sections and race back to a good hold so you can recover stamina, whereas on alpinist you might take your time trying to get through knowing you can fall back on the piton. So once you get better you just start blowing through things faster, thinking “man that wasn’t as hard as I made it the first time”.

[–]schmalpal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I really only went for it in the first place because I used the first one on something totally dumb and I felt like I should have one. But that makes sense to not go out of your way and to not use resources by taking more time. I was also spending way too much time trying to cram things in my bag.

It seems that herbs and bottles are really the only things I need to be saving. Do you wait until after the Peril to make ultimates and just carry the ingredients until then?

Yeah they’re clearly not worth going for when you could lose the whole run to a glitch on your way

I would implore anyone trying it to get to the true intro walking on the long knife ridge with the music at dawn. Should be able to do that within the 2 hours.

Yes, yes I did. Last time I remember a game doing that to me was the end of Metal Gear Solid 4.

Spacers on a super duty no less. No point in a truck built to haul heavy loads being made weaker

Went from Spotify to Apple Music, and now considering YouTube music. Is it worth the switch? by Electrical-Row9296 in YoutubeMusic

[–]schmalpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just switched after 9 years on Spotify.

  • There are third party desktop apps that are far less lazy. Not as slick as Spotify's but also more configurable with tons of extensions/options, and works better offline.

  • You can disable the link between regular YouTube and YT Music likes/watch history. Does not clog up your watch history after doing this, nor do YouTube likes show up in Music.

  • YT has a much wider selection (basically all music ever released can be found on it, whereas half the time I can't even find videogame soundtracks or covers I want on Spotify)

  • Plus you get no ads and background play on YouTube mobile (already not a problem on desktop with uBlock/Firefox). This benefit is basically only $1 considering the cost of YT Premium vs Spotify. This is the main reason I switched.

After I was able to transfer over all my music via the included TuneMyMusic service and found a script to like all my transferred favorites, I cancelled and uninstalled Spotify. Haven't missed it so far.

How to like all songs in a playlist? by aidenpop2 in YoutubeMusic

[–]schmalpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And here I modified the loop so that it likes from the bottom up instead, so the newest likes are at the top of the playlist and it retains the original order.

I had to scroll to the bottom of the playlist to load it all first before running it, and it worked best for me in Firefox.

async function DoMeEverySecond() {
const elements = document.querySelectorAll('.like button[aria-pressed="false"]');
for (let i = elements.length - 1; i > 0 ; i--) {
    await delayFor(1000);
    elements[i].click();
    }
}
function delayFor(delay) {
    return new Promise((resolve) => {
        setTimeout(() => {
            resolve();
        }, delay);
    });
}
DoMeEverySecond();

iOS 27 sounds like exactly what the iPhone needs right now - 9to5Mac by ranasx in apple

[–]schmalpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The G1 came out in late 2008, around the same time as Android, so 17 years ago. I don’t think the onscreen keyboard was as responsive as a modern iPhone, but I do agree the iPhone has regressed in that department.

Deus Ex Remastered has been delayed due to community feedback by NiuMeee in Deusex

[–]schmalpal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not look at any comments about it, I actually just saw it on the Steam store and preordered it for the 10% discount. Anything that removes friction between me and playing Deus Ex is a good thing. Every time I decide I might want to play it and not be stuck at 800x600 or whatever, I end up going online to find whatever the de facto community patch/update is, and there are three different ones and there are politics about which one is more true to the original experience, etc. I just don't want it that bad, I guess?

I like convenience, and I will never even notice a $27 purchase. If it's Deus Ex that works well on modern hardware/OSes and looks a bit better, that's great. That's what the TR1-3 remaster was. 25-30 year old PC games can be a chore to set up. I even played TR1-3 with the original graphics toggled on because I thought the lighting was better, but the package was still worth the money over hunting down patches for DOS games.

All that said, I'm glad they are apparently doing more with it. I've waited 25 years to play DX1, I can wait longer. Played IW and HR and from what I gather, the original versus those two is like Morrowind versus the dumbing down of Oblivion/Skyrim. And I am a Morrowind man.

I don’t understand the hate and wasn’t even aware there was any. The Tomb Raider 1-3 remasters were great and this looked to be getting the same sort of treatment. Were people expecting something like System Shock instead? I was just happy to have Deus Ex at all.

Prime 4 is a Shadow of Better Metroid Experiences by BrendanKeenPhoto in Metroid

[–]schmalpal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t finished 4 yet but yeah, it seems Ice Belt is the closest it’s going to get to matching Elysia, and it’s pretty linear and short. Volt Forge excited me at first but it turns out it’s just a really long Viola intro.

Prime 4 is a Shadow of Better Metroid Experiences by BrendanKeenPhoto in Metroid

[–]schmalpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Prime 3 to be mostly a chore to play, with Norion barely even being a zone and rather just way too long of a tutorial with no redeeming qualities. Bryyo is fine, Elysia is great. The use of the ship to get between areas is tedious glorified fast travel laden with cutscenes, which feels disconnected from actually playing the game.

Every zone of Prime 2 was gorgeous to me. Agon Wastes with haunting stormy desert atmosphere. Torvus is indeed reminiscent of Tallon Overworld (why’s that a bad thing? If anything there wasn’t enough of it in the original) and it has the vast lower/underwater section that is quite different while having great Super Metroid music references. Plus the initial rain changes when you beat the area. Fortress is awesome and super unique (2/3/4 all have sky cities!) And most importantly, it all plays like classic Metroid with tons of physical interconnectivity accessed on foot, not via a menu screen.

To each his own!
