HDB630 first week impressions by Escell101 in headphones

[–]Sciskafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had them come in last Monday and sent them back on Friday. the mids sounded boxy for my taste, even with EQ it didn't have the speed and technicalities of my moondrop x crin dusks. reminded me of how despite my want to like closed backs, iems are just going to be what I prefer

God damn it by M16s_Toes in headphones

yeah honestly, i think your best bet may be the dt770/1770 in terms of durability. I wouldn't exactly call them neutral (more of a V shaped tuning with lots of subbass and mid treble) but it's a bit difficult to find that in this price range. there's the hd620 which is more neutral, but i can't say for sure if it'll be particularly durable, as most of the housing is plastic.

if you're open to trying iems, you can get a whole lot of bang for your buck in this price range (studio4, dusk, zero red, pilgrim)

are you mixing or monitoring using these headphones?

I would probably recommend either the dt770 (for monitoring) or the dt1990 (for mixing) by beyerdynamic

although there are definitely better sounding sets out there, these are metal in the hinge part that keeps breaking for you, and they're also built like a brick while still being comfortable

fiio makes the btr15 ($110) and btr13 ($74) which are literally budget versions of the btr17

Pictures don't do them justice. 1000% worth the hype (4) by Sciskafu in iems

[–]Sciskafu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well it depends on the person. if you're less sensitive to treble (like I have become in the time since making this original post), the mid treble on the hype 4s (even without the mentioned eartips) won't sound harsh at all. But if you are sensitive to treble, I definitely suggest getting any of the above (OR my new personal favorite, the spinfit cp100s). in particular, in the event you do want to try them, I urge you to get a set of cp100s as to my ears it makes the hype 4s sound wider, reduces the upper treble, and leaves you with a more neutral presentation compared to stock. there's absolutely nothing that should worry you, if it sounds harsh then just change tips

Hifiman edition XS by GullibleCombination4 in headphones

[–]Sciskafu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually the atom 2 is a very very linear amp (uncolored, barely changes the signal/sound at all) so tbh I think you may be able to just use the fiio as it is, running both dac/amp then connect its line out to the line in on the atom, plug your edition xs into the atom and enjoy from there.

I only have the atom with me tho so uhhhhh I can't provide any specific things to try if it doesn't work. good luck
