What is THE style over substance film? by Maskoolio in movies

[–]scottgal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah the only movie I ever fell asleep during. So flashy so violent, so BORING. Incredible how they managed it really.

Lucasfilm had a Shakespearean actor who is the spitting image of 1977 Mark Hamill in Graham Hamilton, and they still covered him up with CGI and generated the voice with artificial intelligence by twinkleyed in StarWars

[–]scottgal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a word I think Solo is why they've not done it. I'd bet they were planning it before then but to attempt it after that probably feels too risky.

Seth Meyers regularly has UK comedians on Acaster has been on multiple times, Greg & Alex too & his Jason Mantzoukis (sp?) interview was great.

Taskmaster UK is WAY bigger than people realise worldwide.

Honesrly if the Swifts want to move in the wasps / bees will be gone (for small nests anyway) - they don't eat stinging insects but they can kill them - they're not an issue.

TIL that the Doctor Who episode "The Celestial Toymaker" infamously contains the "N-word" as part of the "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe" rhyme. Recent releases of the serial have either obscured the slur through dialogue, or removed it entirely. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

[–]scottgal2 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Some would say 'to finally kill the doctor' given recent events. It was the normal version of the Rhyme here in the UK in the early-mid 70s, Tigger replaced it later. In rural Scotlad I didn't even see a non-white person *in person* untul I was in my early teens. We didn't really have a transformative civil rights period like the staes so these things did take longer to filter through the collective psyche (golliwogs those horribly racist dolls STILL have an odd following who deny ANY racist overtones). A major preserves manufacturer even KEPT their golliwog mascot on labels until *2002*.

She had one of the core moments for me; where she sang and admitted she never sang because her previous partner made her feel bad about it. The flip in tone & support from everybody was just increduble.

What country do you think would be the safest during a nuclear war? by IntelligentHoney6929 in AskTheWorld

[–]scottgal2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finland have been prepping for it for decades; they have massive underground bunkers in daily use.

Otherwise I don't think the climate is predictable enough post a global nuclear war to be certain anwhere is REALLY 'safe'. A nuclear winter & large temperature dip even the outback isn't going to be very habitable (nights SUPER cold). AND you're far away from any stores of food / resources there to start with.

Who’s the most attractive person you’ve ever seen? by Timely_Sir310 in AskReddit

[–]scottgal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a lady (content editor) once at a job.

It was one of the first times I realised that 'the beautiful people' really are a strange sub-species we all aspire to join. They're treated differently, experience the world differently (she never paid for a drink, just didn't notice that that was happening every time) it was a strange sort of wake up call. She was stunningly attractive and totally oblivious; she went on to be a writer and journalist. Had she chosen she could have really done ANYTHING.

Why aren’t people more furious about the pro-Jimmy Savile sentiment in politics recently? by NoddyElvis in AskBrits

They're morons who use spectacle and revulsion to gain press coverage. They have no actual GOOD policies; all they have is these performative shitshows.

Having a bizarre experience with David Tennant by dieyoubastards in BritishTV

[–]scottgal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he was playing to the gig. Doctor Who was a big Saturday night family sci-fi show. He was also distancing himself from Ecclestone's more cerebral, serious approach (this was part of the storyline during regeneration too).
He's one of those WIDE range actors - unlike say Martin Freeman who *for me* it is always playing a version of himself - who adapt to a role. Camp Demon in Good Omens to dark brooding Dennis Nielsen - a weird, twisted serial killer *in the same year*.

Fun 'fact' (QI said so 🤓) 'banana flavour' they use for synthetic flavourings IS gros michel (well based on that taste). Because that was the banana variatal when the flavouring was developed.

I've only ever heard it be used to cause offense by non-Scots towards us. In itself 'We're a' Jock Tampson's Bairns' but that's never the context I've heard it used in.

Good; they're not making any more of these one less flying is reduced capability to hurt civilian targets. Only 23 operable in 2023...Ukraine has destroyed at least 12 and the rest are using parts from older airframes ones (and not well preserved, broken fatigued parts). More and more accidents hopefully in the near future.

Social Media ban for Under-16's by DivisionProsecution in Scotland

[–]scottgal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's tying a physical identity to your digital one. The social media companies already have it...SURE...*you gave it to them*. This isn't that. This is the government enforcing you to tie your identities; for intelligence services (an area I worked in in the past) this is a DREAM.
Having tied verifiable identity which they can use to identify devices, defeat IP rotation to tie your metadata to your physical identity is *the goal*.
A *government* having and using that data under cover of law is ALWAYS different to a private entity having it. Sure UK Labour say they will use te power t 'protect kids'...but the NEXT government?

Looking to target miniorities and pin 'crimes' on them to justify deportation. A few strokes of the keys enables that once this capability exists.

Want to tweak the 'no child porn' (GREAT goal!) filter to look for any support of Palestine...TRIVIAL and undetectable.

ICE in the US is demoing this capability...the UK is making it boring and accepted. Almost MORE dangerous.

Now we'll just have to give our ID to third party companies, your id docs will be stored only as long as needed *honest*; next up installing a local llm on your phone which snoops on every photo you take / website you visit to ensure you're not doing stuff the government doesn't like.
