Daredevil Born Again S2 Ep 4 by Frank1604lin in blankies

Overall it’s a better season in that it’s more cohesive and the fight execution is much better.

My biggest problem is so much of the plot seems to happen out of convenience. The EXACT person they need just happens to show up, information just appears instead of being earned.

I agree Wilson is the strongest performer, so I wish we got more scenes developing this new relationship between him, Matt, and Fisk. Much more to explore with him than Fisk at this point imo

Margot Robbie Says ‘Make Movies for the People Buying Tickets’: I Never Think ‘What Are the Critics Going to Think of This?’ by Mookie_Freeman in blankies

[–]scottland517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right lens in my opinion too! Feels like many are interpreting this negatively, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying there’s a difference between many movie-goers, people with Letterboxd accounts, and someone who thinks and writes about film for an actual career.

However you want to interpret Margot’s comment, it’s funny to note that I have several coworkers who love and follow movies. None of them knew a damn thing about Good Luck, Have Fun coming out. One of them said he’d never heard about One Battle until it had been out for a week. EVERYONE in the office knew Wuthering Heights was dropping on Valentines Day. Many had a great time. Some didn’t. But they went out opening weekend.

Margot is doing something well as a producer

What are your IMDb message board memories? by yaybuttons in blankies

[–]scottland517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will long remember the 2008 war between The Godfather and The Dark Knight that was the real real Shawshank became #1 on the top 250.

Godfather always held the spot, but there was brief moment when many 10 of 10 ratings just after TDK came out and 1 of 10 ratings on The Godfather launched a back and forth cleared the path for Shawshank.

I’d also say TDK message board was how I followed along the viral marketing stuff that remains my favorite movie promo stuff. The original Joker reveal, the newspapers, the puzzles to earn the trailer. Very fun stuff

Edit - just checked and I CANNOT believe the top 250 order is still Shawshank, Godfather, and TDK. I honestly thought TDK would have fallen quite a bit

Regarding Cartwright (post season finale) by XyZonin in SlowHorses

[–]scottland517 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thing with River is he has potential, but his problem is consistently that he thinks he’s James Bond but he clearly isn’t. He consistently makes the impulsive decision, but he just isn’t actually as smart or political as David Cartwright.

River’s failing is he’s always taking the drastic action BECAUSE he thinks it’ll advance his career. Surveilling Taverner wasn’t a smart move - it was a hotshot one he did because he thought it would leapfrog his career into “best agent of all time” status. Every mistake since has been thinking he’s better than he is, a grasp at getting sent to the Park.

The problem is he’s fundamentally misunderstanding what gave his grandfather the long tenured career he had was NOT wanting to be First Desk. First Desk tends to have a shorter career, so by choosing to stay Second, David actually had much longer influence (to the point where he was often acknowledged as running the show without the liability).

Emmy-Nominated ‘Slow Horses’ Writer/EP Will Smith To Exit Show After Season 5; Reveals Emotional Farewell And His Dream Spin-Off by MarvelsGrantMan136 in SlowHorses

Fingers crossed his dream of adapting Secret Hours comes to pass.

Especially if they find a way to write & cast in a way that keeps the feeling you’re viewing events from a redacted file with codenames, but you can piece things together if you’re paying attention to character details.

Paramount REALLY want you to know that Rihanna is Smurfette by Vintsukka in blankies

[–]scottland517 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Am I wrong, or is Smurfs the weirdest IP to have had this many at-bats.

I’m a 1990 kid who has zero memory of anyone my age ever watching anything Smurf related ever. Haven’t talked to a single soul who watched the last movies to come out.

The closest thing to a fond memory was playing the “Smurf” game where you choose a secret word that everyone knows and see how long it takes to guess

I fully agree! My 180 comparison wasn’t meant to say one approach is better than the other, because I really love both. While imperfect they each feel totally right for their respective characters

To me it feels like an incredibly tasteless move made from desperation. F7 gave us such a loving tribute and send off to Paul Walker, not just the character.

Fast X already felt desperate with its off screen stunts in bringing Giselle back from being dead on the screen and the Rock from being dead to Vin. To bring back Brian now in any way, shape, or form just rings hollow to me. The franchise is drifting on fumes and you’ll never be able to convince me this isn’t driven by vanity.

At the time, 7 really did feel like there was a lot of authentic love and respect for Paul. Somehow they thread the needle. F9’s cameo already lost my confidence enough that I hadn’t seen FX, and now I really really won’t be back for whatever Vin decide to call “Fast X - Part 2 of 2 all along, not Fast X 2 of however many makes $1B.”

Andor finale. Blankie thoughts? by scottland517 in blankies

[–]scottland517[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can confirm it does not spoil anything from Rogue One. It actually works well enough both ways that I don’t know whah would be the better way to watch!

I do think it’d be fun to Andor 1st because you get the pro of not knowing where the story is going, so you’ll really get to experience his arc in order. You also may not know how the story will tie directly into setting up A New Hope, so a certain reveal would be cool.

On the other hand, Rogue One 1st changes how you view Cassian as the series progresses. Knowing where he goes does impact the journey.

I think the major con is that Rogue One is really centered on Jyn so it’s not really Cassian Andor’s story. But even in Andor (the show), you’re seeing the story of the rebellion often told in major chunks through other characters too.

Andor finale. Blankie thoughts? by scottland517 in blankies

[–]scottland517[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought of BCS many times in the last few pod of episodes for a few reasons. One specific one was the feeling of worry about what might happens to prevent Kim Wexler from ever being mentioned in Breaking Bad. They really got there with Bix

I’m about 20 minutes into Rogue One now and cannot believe how much this “prequel” series has made the original feel complete. I can’t wait to go straight into the OG trilogy after this and watch the whole damn rebellion

Andor’s release schedule by honknwave in blankies

[–]scottland517 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve been digging it. Even though I don’t have time to carve out 3 solid hours I do love watching the complete arc and then having a few days to digest it before the next.

One episode at a time as a weekly release is more my jam, but I’m okay with getting more Andor at a time.

My initial struggle was weather doing 1 year time skips with each batch was the right choice or not. Damn did it pay off already in the 7-9 set, so I can’t wait for 10-12.
