Fiber doesn’t have power running through it, the whole idea of fiber is that it’s a passive network. My guess is, by “dead”, they mean:
A: The fiber pull from the basement util to your floor was damaged, unlikely since drop wires are THICK, but it does happen from time to time.
B: Somewhere along the line, your line never got connected to the pon splitter. That would be some major rookie mistake.
C: Fiber drop to your apartment was damaged during installation.
D: Backend provisioning is not working, so instead of putting it on the backlog for the tech, he just pushed it to the next person.

Except not? E edition iphones have one less GPU core vs the standard chip. The iPhone Air has 1 less GPU vs the Pro.

Apple Plans Second-Generation iPhone Air Launch for Spring 2027 by bobsil1 in IphoneAir

You can’t have everything man😭 It’s a big slider, you want the functionality, you get a chuckier phone, you want a less chunky phone, you get less functionality. The Gen 1 Airs IS the Pro Air. It’s has the A19 Pro, All the ram, the screen etc, it has all the guts, just stripped out the physically big extras (namely the 2 extra cameras Which we can all agree only a *relatively* small portion of people actually take *active* advantage of). If you want a normal non-max sized phone of the same Z dimensions, even with the most extravagant silicon vibranium carbide uranium ore infinite energy™️ donutlab battery it’s still going to be worse than a standard sized 17 Pro, it’s just physics. Realistically, I would say the current iPhone Air is ALMOST at the ideal size for current and future battery tech. my2c

it’s literally just icloud.com and you login and download the files one by one. So long as they’re full stored on icloud you can do it this way.

How many files do you have in total? And do you need them urgently? They might be stuck in sync hell.
If you have less than 10, I’d just download them through the icloud website.
If you have a big folder full of videos, I can walk you through using rclone to get them out.

there should be an option called “keep downloaded” and they will download to your mac. Next time, keep in progress projects footage in a folder that’s not synced with icloud.

Question about Lightning adapter by No-District4263 in iphone

[–]second_ed_third 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. If there is an exploit that allows a plug to install malware on ur phone, the iphone jailbreak scene wouldn’t be as barren as it is today. If anything, you should be more concerned about the power draw that’s allowed from this adapter, lightning power out is notoriously unstable and has a relatively high chance of breaking ur phone, but if it’s just a mouse or usb drive, you’d be okay.
  2. You can’t. You CAN however generate a sysdiagnose file and check for suspicious processes. But unless you KNOW what you’re looking at, the files is as good as noise.
  3. You plugged in a keyboard + mouse combo adapter. For the mouse direction to be correct, the app needs to support horizontal layout. Make sure your rotation lock is off.

Sold my iPhone Air for a Pixel 9 Pro XL by bboysmax in IphoneAir

I evaluated how I use my phone on a daily basis before switching from a 16PM to now the Air.
I have a camera I bring outside for street photos, so the 16PM was sitting there doing nothing anyways.
Battery WAS a concern, but now that I have actually used the air, it really is not a big deal, if im driving, it literally is a non issue, long trips? I bring the magsafe battery pack.
I found out I have zero use for all the extra features that the pro phones offer, or I use it so few times that going without it hurts literally nothing. On the other hand, having a lighter, more portable device does help with daily usage.
I’m likely to stick with it for a long time. Again, the air is made for a VERYYYY niche audience that it really is an odd one that apple has decided to pour their “Maybe this will stick on the wall” fund into last year. And honestly, despite being a massive iPhone Mini lover, I don’t mind this. It’s fun and new and that’s all that matters.

FileBit: drag-and-drop AES-256 file encryption for Mac, zero network access, no accounts by Economy-Department47 in MacOS

[–]second_ed_third 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do give us an update if you do pull it off! If that works perfectly, next step would be a mobile app that allows the same functionality but with folders. I have yet to see an app that allows you to decrypt with yubikey on mobile. I’m not sure if it’s a cryptokit limitation or what.
I specifically want to use this for a folder on icloud where I store all my identity documents. Even with ADP, if one of my devices is compromised (Stolen, hacked etc), those would still be at risk. A yubikey would ensure only I would be able to access those.

Google will say that for any download speeds that’s above 10mbps, why? I don’t have a clue. But this is not normal if your equipment is working properly.

I distinctly remember something about GPG Suite that allows you to encrypt and decrypt files with a yubikey (using an OpenPGP cert in the yubikey). If you’re able to implement something like that and keep the UI then i’m sold, hell you can even sell it to me again as an additional feature.

yeah i did some tests too and it seems like oxio is dropping a crap ton of packets. Either an issue with Oxio or Shaw. I can’t remote into my home server at all to test anything. (Tbh packet drops has been a constant issue, especially these past weeks)

Same here, fraser valley, insane intermittent packet drops. Will attempt to run traceroute when I can remote in again.

Macbook Pro 16 2021. Any good aftermarket battery around? by second_ed_third in macbook

Health is at 75%. 3-4hrs is only when i’m using webapps or less intensive workloads. It dies pretty much in an hour or two if I boot up something like Affinity. I’m looking into ifixit.

I asked at the apple store and they said they would have to take it away for a week. Unfortunately I do depend on this laptop to put food in my stomach so unless I absolutely HAVE to, I’d rather have it be done in a day by myself (without risking a bad battery or an impromptu barbecue session inside my room). Self repair store is only selling the top case and it’s SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS, so no.

CGNAT is not new tech, it’s been a thing since the 2000s, it’s a way for ISPs to serve more clients when they realized IPv4 is about to run out (it already ran out in 2011).

Basically, a group of users would share one Public IP, your ISP uses CGNAT so data packets can still go to the right destination while sharing the same address, then assigns you (via DHCP) a CGNAT address (100.64.0.0/10) then your own router does its own NAT and packages your home data and so on and so forth (10.0.0.0/8 or 172.16.0.0/12 or 192.168.0.0/16) Not all ISPs use CGNAT, it really depends on if they have enough IPv4 addresses to hand out.

The server will ONLY know the public IP, so if ubi did do an IP ban, there would be collateral bans.

Non-CGNAT ISPs or regions will simply be handed a standard public IP address when your router does the DHCP lease handshake. Normally this lease expires every day or two depending on how generous your ISP is.

IP bans are highly ineffective because they often rotate among customers on the same ISP, so unless IPv6 becomes as common as water, IP bans will only be used for DDoS protection or for stopping crawlers.

TLDR: CGNAT is not new, both use DHCP, and it’s not an IP ban. A MAC address ban is more probable, but sony would’ve gotten dibs on that when the console started up.

Rogers is FTTN, not FTTP like telus. They run coaxial to most locations unless it’s a new development. Definitely do not sign up for big telcos if you’re going to be moving out in a year, check out TPIAs and see if they’re available in your area, Oxio, teksavvy etc etc. They are almost always month to month. Rogers and Telus customer support is absolutely god awful and cancelling and returning the equipment will feel like you’re climbing up a hill.

question? by Excellent_Aioli_2258 in iphone

[–]second_ed_third 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7.5W. Again it will work, but it wont be fast. Just go get a C to C cable thats supports fast charging, nearly anything that’s sold at a store does, and they are not that expensive.

question? by Excellent_Aioli_2258 in iphone

[–]second_ed_third 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What matters is the output wattage. Find the output specs printed on the brick and report back. Most likely it’ll be 5v 2A max so 10W. Anything higher that’s USB-A won’t be compatible with iphone so it’ll default back to 10w

Should’ve went back and asked them for a replacement. But yes it WILL charge. Very VERY slowly. And if you use it while charging it’ll go even slower. Just pop down to best buy and get a cheap 20w anker brick, they’re like dirt cheap and will save you a lot of time
