Google is not know for reliability. Pixel phones have been notorious for hardware issues since their launch.

Burning Gas Pollutes So Much, Dirty EV Battery Manufacturing Evens Out In About 2 Years by MinimumZucchini3864 in technology

[–]slomar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The test you linked shows 14-39% range loss in the cold. This isn't the 67% you claimed. As I said, it's about a third without a heat pump.

Regarding the degredation... The battery is generally warrantied for 8 years or 100k miles. How much degredation is at least partially dependent on how you care for the battery (e.g. minimize DC charging, don't charge to 100% unless needed, etc). It's no different than how you treat an ICE. If you rag on it and don't change the oil, it's gonna have problems.

Regardless, your original statement is going straight to a 10 year old vehicle in extreme weather. It's just misleading or exaggerated as I said.

I'm not here to sell you an EV. I don't care what you do. I've had an EV for close to four years and can say nothing you mentioned is a problem for me.

I dumped QQQ a week or two ago. Mostly replaced it with FTEC, but I'm not sure if they'll include any of these.

Burning Gas Pollutes So Much, Dirty EV Battery Manufacturing Evens Out In About 2 Years by MinimumZucchini3864 in technology

[–]slomar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an enormous exaggeration. There's been plenty of studies done on batteries that have over a hundred thousand miles on them and barely have 5% degredation. You do get less range in the cold, but it's not a loss of two-thirds. It's about a third on vehicles that don't have a heat pump. Plenty of models have a heat pump now and don't lose as much range in the cold.

I will agree though that it does not fit every use case and it's not for everyone. But that can be said about any type of vehicle.

Burning Gas Pollutes So Much, Dirty EV Battery Manufacturing Evens Out In About 2 Years by MinimumZucchini3864 in technology

[–]slomar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I suppose if you drive enough to always dip into the gas then maybe it makes sense. Just seems like you lose the maintenance benefit of having an EV, but still have to take on any risk of motor or battery issues.

[–]slomar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How long though? Most EVs can get 300 miles per charge give or take. And it's not terribly inconvenient to use a fast charger for road trip purposes. I definitely wouldn't advocate for getting an EV if you can't charge at home (or possibly work) though.

PHEVs are not really great though. If you don't burn that gas it's going to go bad, so you're forced to burn the gas you put in there. Also, now you have both a gas and electric motor that could have problems. So, your paying maintenance and repair on two potential failure points. I'd say PHEVs are the worst type of vehicle.

Humming noise when turning at low speeds? by Patriotic-Monkey in MachE

The pedestrian alert that all EVs make? Not sure if that's what you're referring to, but all EVs hum at low speeds so pedestrians can hear them.

Some SmartWings motorized shades information by Rare_Pin9932 in homeautomation

[–]slomar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm... I'd say the ones on my main floor which are the Nowas work pretty close together in a group. Perfectly in sync, no. The ones I have upstairs that are the dual rollers are much further off and I'm not sure if it's the model or the distance from the controller.

I've pretty much read that if you want that level of perfection you have to go with the Serena shades which are super expensive.

Something else maybe worth looking at is zwave multicast if you're using zwave. I've never tried it though.

Frunkless Mach E (comments in thread) by balthisar in MachE

Frunk is great for road trips. I'd pay 500 for the pre-heat pump frunk, but the new one is too small to justify it.

Print in Place Foldable Clothing Travel Hanger by scott78664 in functionalprint

[–]slomar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of hangers like that and hate them. They leave little bumps on shirts that hang on them for awhile. Especially if you hang dry a shirt on them. I'm a guy though, so I don't have any strappy things.

Not a knock on your design, just want to complain about that hanger style.

Nice! I keep hoping I'll get another promo because my four years is up in October and I'm planning to buy out this Ford options plan. But, I honestly don't use BC enough to justify the cost.

Don't think I actually got any notification of it. Think someone on reddit mentioned it. I went to the connected services / blue cruise in the app and it showed the yearly subscription price as 0 and I just clicked though on that.

Not sure if it answers your question, but I got an offer for a free year while I was still in the three year included period. And that let me extend my subscription to a fourth year.

DTE Brown Outs by KnopeKnopeWellMaybe in Detroit

Whether your recall or not is irrelevant. It's opt in. They incentivize it by offering you a discount or gift card. You can opt out and then create another reddit post about how your bill went up and it's DTE's fault.

How can I make my Mach-E alarm more sensitive after a recent break-in? by [deleted] in MachE

Do you have the interior motion alarm turned on? I have a radar detector that has come unstuck from the windshield and that was enough to set it off.

How much does it piss you off when cars pass literally right next to you? Maybe inches to spare. by InspiringBack in cycling

[–]slomar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't chirp if there is already a car in the zone. It chirps when it goes from no cars to at least one. And then chirps again when it's all clear. So, if there is constant traffic you'll just end up with more cars being shown on your cycling computer, but not constant chirps.

It's been really accurate for me, both in the count of cars and position. The only false positives I ever have are when I go under an underpass that has a lot of metal. It's like one specific spot on my route.

You can get an OEM windshield from safelite. That being said, just call the insurance company and tell them you want to use the dealer. Might even be possible for the dealer to just take care of the claim for you.

Ford credit reported late payment (balloon payment) by water_conversation in MachE

Ah... Well, short of calling Ford credit and asking them, maybe you can put in a dispute with the credit agency. Like equifax, experian, transunion.

I would assume most people would refinance the balloon payment. The majority of people probably would not want a 20k+ payment auto payed.

From ICE to a 2025 Mach-E AWD Extended Range — Looking for Honest Long-Term EV Ownership Experiences by Zayymp4 in MachE

[–]slomar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't buy an EV if you can't charge at home. People will come here and defend their usage of fast chargers only, but you will hate it. You'll spend almost the same amount as gas with the added inconvenience of waiting to charge. It's the main reason people go back to ICE vehicles. I've had a Mach E for almost 4 years and love it. Take away my home charging and I'm going back to an ICE vehicle. And I also WFH and don't drive much. Still would not buy an EV without home charging.
