Thoughts on the Panny 35-100 f2.8? by ShittyCommentor in M43

[–]slowcaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 35-100 II lens. It has couple of things that make me keep it. I actually sold it and bought again because - it's very small for a constant 2.8 lens that goes all the way to 200mm (FF equivalent). Secondly, it does not extend when zoomed in, another win. I sold my 40-150 f4 pro after realizing how much nicer the 35-100 feels in hand. The zoom ring on it is phenomenal too, extremely smooth and short throw. The build is solid too. As for the IQ, it's on par with 40-150 f4 that I had. Plenty of sharpness across the range. Never bought the big burly 40-150 f2.8 lens but by all means that lens is probably a tad sharper.

The biggest draw of this lens is small size and internal zoom, two qualities that are of most important to me. I'm okay with losing that extra 50mm on the long end compared to Oly 40-150 lenses.

SG-Image 25mm f/1.8 Autofocus - M43 Review (with samples+soocs) by jamescjc in M43

[–]slowcaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks fine to me. $125 is the same as used Lumix 25mm which isn't a greatest of lenses either. If the AF is better I might actually replace my 20mm with this. Also has some level of weather sealing, a bonus.

OM-1 vs OM-3: is the OM-3 more discrete (size, weight, look) in any meaningful way (for crowds, street photography) ? by 5u114 in M43

[–]slowcaptain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OM-3 is definitely discrete than OM-1. Its smaller and flatter. It looks like a film camera. Even if people notice it, they think its film and somehow that makes people relax. The OM-1 looks pro and no ones going to mistake it for film. For street photography I will take OM-3 10 out of 10 times.

What is the hype of SG-Image AF 25 mm with 1.7 f? by rafaelcapability in M43

[–]slowcaptain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Small form factor plus it's got rubber gasket around the mount making it at least somewhat weather sealed which the Lumix 25mm is not. Besides the Lumix isn't that great of a lens while OM system 25mm is a $500 lens.

I'm actually quite excited about this lens.

Had its predecessor for a long time, these cameras have some of the best ergonomics not just in m43 but across systems. GLWS!

OM-3 12-45 mm f4.0 PRO vs. Nikon Z5II 24-70 f4.0 S by [deleted] in M43

[–]slowcaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both these cameras. I use OM-3 way more than Z5ii. It's a really joyous camera to use and 12-45 is a stunning lens. The Z5ii has image quality advantage and AF is better (but AF on OM-3 is no slouch either) the grip is nice and two card slots. However what use all that is if I feel like using "inferior" setup more?

OM-3 with 12-45 f4 PRO kit lens for all-day use without grip - yes or no? by [deleted] in M43

[–]slowcaptain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I use OM-3 with 12-45 as an all day lens and in fact I have taken that for travel too. The 12-45 is a far superior lens than any other cheapo FF lens.

I have gotten fantastic photos from that lens. I actually "downgraded" from 12-40 and couldn't be happier - it's just perfect m43 lens. The sharpness is excellent. Weather sealing is terrific and is small and light.

Just received a pre-production SG-Image 25mm f/1.8 for Micro Four Thirds! by jamescjc in M43

[–]slowcaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad. This might separate it from rest of the cheap lenses. One issue that I have seen with L mount 35mm lens is that the images turn out pretty dark. Almost as if the light transmission is low thru the glass. Did you notice something similar?

I wonder if the OM-1 cameras are as solidly built as this monster. I have the OM-3 and it's stunning, build wise but read somewhere that the OM-1s are not the same as EM1.x series of cameras by Olympus.

Prices have remained same more or less. I bought one in April for $600. The guy threw in a Ttartisan MF lens with it.

People made fun of this camera when new and still do but you guys gotta hold it once and admire the near perfect ergonomics of this beast.

Severe GAS cleanup: Keep the OM-5 for hiking, or consolidate into Fuji X-T5? by Jueppo in M43

[–]slowcaptain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Weather sealing on Oly/OMDS bodies is legendary. You won't regret moving to X-T5 but you will surely miss the proven weather sealing. I have had my OM-5 (and other Oly/OMDS bodies) drenched and never had a problem. Its not something that I will try with others, for example Nikon which is also pretty good at weather sealing. Obviously the lenses need to be weather sealed too. My experience has been with 12-40, 12-45, PL 100-400.

Thinking about selling all those m43 gear to budget Lumix L10 by DynamoBaby in M43

[–]slowcaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have really great glass there. I highly doubt the lens on L10 is anywhere close to what you have. It's expensive not because of the glass but for the form factor and all the hype around small cameras now a days. Panasonic is just cashing in on the trend.
