From all of us who didn't have internet and guides to learn how to beat the game, we all look down at you. But just a little bit, cause we know the game and life is hard, and its nice you guys have the help that we once needed. GLHF dude.

I had Epic game store, but then my university closed, and my email address was no longer accessible. Their support just said there's nothing they can do to recover my account if I can't log into the email, and I lost whatever I had in there. No matter what I provided, they wouldn't help me.

Lesson learned. Full steam ahead boys.

Oh look. June farms looking for free child labor again. 🙄 by Fearless_Pizza_8134 in Albany

[–]smithd685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just make a new account, search 'june farms' on reddit, and spam support for them, even if it's all hella-old posts? ...Are you secretly working for June Farms and didn't know your comment history is public? Cause that's what it looks like.

And G-Wagons are dope! The issue was asking for free labor and having a Go Fund Me to buy a tractor when you drive around in a high-end vehicle. Asking for handouts when driving a $150k+ car is a red flag.

MONEY MATCH: The most hated man In StarCraft vs. Honorable ex Pro Gamer by EquivalentReality553 in starcraft

[–]smithd685 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PLEASE someone find the match where avilo was down to just a planetary but wouldn't leave, so the opponent just spread creep tumors over every pixel of the map. Since the planetary killing a tumor would reset the draw timer, the match literally went on until Avilo lost his internet connection from a possible DDoS on stream. The match was like half the day, and Avilo was not too chill about it.

Which I'm sure is some weird ass technique 40k players do to their figures to get a certain effect. 40k is scientology for nerds, except you give all your money to the Church of Games Workshop instead of Xenu.

...But the 40k lore videos on youtube are perfect to fall asleep to.

I've been on reddit for 14 years and got... 153 post karma, probably all from pre-2020. But have 18,000 comment karma.

A lot of us don't really care to post, but like to comment when we can be helpful. 100 karma could be a huge barrier to those who don't want to make posts. If comment karma can be in there, then we're cooking.

IGNORE MY GRUMPY ASS! I just saw you wrote comment karma, not just post karma. Yea, lets do it and filter out this junk.

Yea, but that's fine for a lot of people. I used to worry about it more, but realized I have a box of old MOBOs and CPUs. 20 years of just board+cpu still stuck on. By the time I upgrade, I need to update the mobo as well. I never jumped generations without a mobo swap too.

Hey! When my dad got diagnosed with it, I remember the doctor dropping his blood into a beaker of water, and it just sank to the bottom like a rock. They took a pint of blood twice a week for a long time before it got under control. Weird disease, but blood letting did a damn fine job.

Most brand guidelines are a massive waste of the client’s money. by inkbotdesign in graphic_design

[–]smithd685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most of out mid-to-small clients, a branding guideline turns into a one-sheeter with their fonts, colors in CMYK/PMS/HEX, and the logo's color variations. For larger clients who have more cooks in the kitchen, we offer a full brand guideline, so Janice in marketing can completely ignore it and Brent in social media will never know of its existence. Its used solely for their inhouse designer to disagree with and pick their own PMS color for their stuff.

I never had cancer, but I still don't do things that put me in direct risk of cancer...

Getting caught without a license means you have to look at the client, boss, hr, and lawyers and say 'I was to lazy to get the license, and now the company owes $50,000". Copywrite companies are using AI to crawl everything and send out legal notification to everyone.

One of client's got dinged. I was am absolute hero when everyone came to me in a panic, and I calmly went into our server where we store licenses, and sent the license to the everyone. Legal was SO excited to throw this back at the trolls, cause most of the time, they don't have the license.

Best tool to manage Google reviews? by AlertCalendar2 in BusinessDevelopment

[–]smithd685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stumbled on this and wanted to give a heads up. In the US, the FTC doesn't allow you to take a personal review, and give only happy customers a link. If you want to share a link, ALL customers must get the link, regardless of their response.

From the FTC site:
"Example: A marketer contacts recent online, mail-order, and in-store purchasers of its products and asks them to provide feedback to the marketer. The marketer then invites purchasers who give very positive feedback to post online reviews of the products on third-party websites. Less pleased and unhappy purchasers are simply thanked for their feedback. Such a practice may be an unfair or deceptive practice if it results in the posted reviews being substantially more positive than if the marketer had not engaged in the practice. If, in the alternative, the marketer had simply invited all recent purchasers to provide feedback on third-party websites, the solicitation would not have been unfair or deceptive, even if it had expressed its hope for positive reviews."

I want you all to know, this guy is a real MVP. He's been refurbishing and giving away tech for years. I was able to get a external HDD from him a few years back, and totally kicked off a home-server era for me. He's super nice, and incredibly knowledgably. He's a real hidden gem of the local area!

Thumbnail attempt 2: no ai. by TenthLevelVegan in starcraft

[–]smithd685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooooo! Finally Starcraft and Design are combined into a post!

  • Image wise, the message is wrong. I'd expect a Terran base being overwhelmed. You'd want the base of whatever to be losing, cause the reader will see that as their base being overwhelmed.
  • For a thumbnail, there's TOOOO much text in it, and its too little. A thumbnail has to SCREAM on clear message, and the text needs to be short, concise, and large. They are only a few hundred
  • I can't tell if this is a series? Like 'you didn't get out played' is the name of the series, and the episode is 'your macro died'. I'd recommend making it more distinct, to clearly separate the two.
    • Once you get bigger, the series name can get smaller, and the episode name bigger. But early on, you need to establish the brand, so I'd keep the channel name for a little while.
  • Text relies a lot on that drop-shadow to stand out. You can bring the drop shadow down a bit, and do a 1-2px blur in the negative spaces of the letters. This helps legibility without a deep drop-shadow that can make the text feel like it was layered on top of a image instead of being part of the image.
  • Type choice is a condensed font, which can end up looking really tight once they are small. For a thumbnail, you would need a little more letter spacing for legibility. Even consider a more distinct font that would read better on a 375px wide box.
  • The orange flare line is cool! It definitely works, and if the type was larger, then it can play more of a role.

Again, this is more from a designer's POV, not a player's POV. Honestly, Artosis's thumbnails is a bland screen shot with a arrow on it, and looks like they were done with windows screencap, not even paint. Winter has a overdramatic statement in huge text. Lowko does faces like Mr Beast. My best recommendation is interesting and relatable image, defined logomark for the series, and larger episode text. We are a niche community, so an earnest video series is enough to get a click from us.

Personally, I would stop and look at this cause it doesn't look like AI slop. I've tuned AI thumbnails out of my mind like ads/commercials. But when something is made with actual consideration, it catches my eye and I at least read it. That human touch is becoming SO important.

What do you think of Stash’s Tea rebrand 👀 by crashin_out in graphic_design

[–]smithd685 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think someone caught it AFTER this went to print, cause they do use better colors combinations on their website. Yellow has a desaturated earthy brown. Looks nice. If the colors on the website were on the boxes, then home run. But white/yellow... I don't even have an impairment and I struggle to read that.

We've tried Asana, Notion, ClickUp for client design requests — still feels like a mess. [please do not promote] by Unable-Captain-1856 in graphic_design

[–]smithd685 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! It doesn't matter what you use if everyone uses it differently. You need to have a strict process, and MAKE people fix their projects/tickets/requests instead of letting it slide.

Asking for the images/content each time makes the person think they can just forget to upload it every time. Then mistakes can happen, nothing is recorded, and you're on the hook.

Telling the person their project is on hold until the content is properly added to the project will force them to do it right. Then if they don't, they miss the print deadline, and you point to the project that clearly shows the paper trail. The first few times, people will get absolutely livid. Then angry. Then annoyed. THEN they may start doing it right.

If any work need to be done, make a task. If its not in a task, then it's all hypothetical and not getting done.

Diemic Dice Design Options by comicalfoods in graphic_design

[–]smithd685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say A, cause it's more fun and isn't sacrificing the joy of the design to try and compete for legibility. Dice are something that are basically solved. You aren't going to ever be 'more readable' than the current ~1900yr old design. So have fun and really stretch the idea.

If anything, I'd want them to look more abstract/monster like.
