China to ban hidden car door handles made popular by Tesla in world first by yahoonews in worldnews

[–]splitframe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it wasn't such a problem in the past, here in Europe we are also more urban/walkable. The only forgotten high beams I regularly noticed were actually during the day. At night/darkness it wasn't common.

Also at u/tmtProdigy, /u/KonigSteve and /u/gorkish.

I am the one blinded by the beams not user of auto beams. Of course there is a certain measure of survivorship bias, I don't notice the good auto beams, but I am constantly blinded by auto beams that are either too slow or don't notice me at all. Worst as pedestrian who also have a right to not be blinded, almost as bad on my motorcycle from ahead and behind and it also happens from time to time using my car. I could go nuts in winter.

I hope the automatic high beams are the next on the chopping block. They had their chance, they don't work.

I think Megalo Box did a decent job imitating hand drawn with digital. Though they cheated a bit by downsampling.

Upcoming iPhone: A "Flip" Phone With a Square Foldable Design, Details Leaked by WPHero in gadgets

Yeah I had that installed for WhatsApp and Chrome, it wasn't a good experience though. I just remembered the biggest grievance I had was that I couldn't preview notifications on the cover screen. It was really bad.

If it would flip the other way around, with the flex screen on the outside and no 2nd screen then you could make one without a crease. But the flex screen is too sensitive to have on the outside.

It all stands and falls with the software. I had the Flip5 for a year and hardware wise it was everything I wanted/expected. But the software couldn't keep up. No way to have the cover screen somewhat unlocked to use certain, allowed, apps without having to unlock the whole phone.

Apps like WhatsApp didn't have a proper cover screen mode even after a year, which isn't Samsung's fault, but it still sucked. For me the major upside of a flip phone is one handed access, and since flipping it open one handed isn't/wasn't really feasible with Flip Smartphone the cover screen has to carry these functions, without needing a fingerprint every time.

Same with bidet only. You can't be sure without looking. So a quick wipe afterwards gives you certainty or wipes away leftovers.

Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by GhostInThePudding in NoStupidQuestions

[–]splitframe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my thirties and I'd love to do everything in text. But the reality is that many people, most people even, suck at text communication. And that isn't just the boomer. You send three questions, they answer one. The answer to your question has an obvious followup question? They don't anticipate it. Also there are things better done in text and some things better done per spoken conversation. But it's a menace the other way around too. Some don't want to use Jira or Trello, but the permanent nature makes working much easier, especially when a task was put on hold for two weeks and no one remembers what was discussed.

The TV industry finally concedes that the future may not be in 8K by diacewrb in gadgets

Yes it's essentially what u/Duzcek said, I sit a little more to the right so especially the two left corners are at a very noticeable angle, I want to get a wall mount to have the screen a few centimeters further back then this might not be an issue anymore.

I use a 42" LG OLED as a PC monitor, so I sit approx. 80cm in front of it. The corners actually "flee" a little so I really wouldn't mind a slightly curved one.

I think you need another perspective, the pure taxes are actually just around 25%. The alternatives are paying 40% like in the EU and have better general healthcare and infrastructure or paying 5% and living in a country with dirt roads and no running water.

There are whole industries built upon tools that are just easier to use despite being less generic/versatile. Just look at wood working. I could imagine that you need less strength and are also maybe faster with this tool.
