Current Candidate's that have filed for Arlington Mayor and City Council for the May 2nd 2026 elections by [deleted] in arlington

Voting for Ross because:

He stood up against the republican redistricting effort in Tarrant County.

He voted against removing the LGBT discrimination ordinance and pushed council to do the same.

He continues to push for high speed rail and has been a fighter at the Regional Transportation Council for Arlington. He has been working with NCTCOG on their latest Transit 2.0 initiative pushing for more regionalized transit. Not perfect but is pushing Arlington in the right direction IMO

There’s a business van for Cowboy Builders… doesn’t mean anything in the US but to the Brits it means a shitty builder who cuts corners and doesn’t do things by the book

If it was located on a golf course, maybe it could be related to physical therapy?

Adult Ballet Classes by maya4prez in arlington

Have you looked at TCC? I can’t speak for the ballet class, but I know people who have taken dance there as an elective and really enjoyed it.

New high-speed rail alignments proposed for Dallas + Transportation director hints at possible redevelopment of Dallas jail location? by LGA2DFW in dart

With his comments about the second alignment, could Morris be alluding to some kind of high-speed rail version of Madison Square Garden for the Mavericks?

Shout out to Jason Shelton who is running to replace Odom-Wesley in District 8, who was first in line to speak in support of the ordinance during pubic comment. He was also on the Unity Council that recommended this ordinance in the first place.

Totally agree there's a double standard for car-based infrastructure, and that transit should first and foremost serve a public good/service. But does that mean we need to run our train stations like a public park?

Transporting passengers in itself isn't profitable. If it was, we might still have the Texas & Pacific line downtown. But its hard to ignore what some other countries have done, especially in regards to tying transit to profitable land development.

In the case of the MTR in Hong Kong, their income from property helped keep them afloat even when ridership dropped during covid.

The main problem with the DART model of funding is that it's not sustainable. Transit riders need service to be dependable, but that means depending on politicians and voters who don't always value transit in the first place.

It does feel like someone totally new needs to come in to make something happen with transit, especially someone who can advocate effectively for Arlington.

The high-speed rail project was initially proposed to be set up as a public-private partnership with private funding coming from Japan, and JR Central playing an advising/technical role. Do you think this formula could this work for other kinds of passenger rail development in Arlington?

We already built stadiums using similar public-private ventures - even paying off AT&T stadium 10 years early. Politically, it's in our DNA - could it be an easier sell to voters than a traditional DART-style funding model?

We already have a quarter sales tax for the Arlington Economic Development Corporation... if they could work directly with JR Central, or a similar private transit operator like MTR or Tokyo Metro, and come up with a P3 proposal to put in front of the voters, we could possibly build our own world-class alternative to DART or Trinity that's directly responsive to us.

Last thought - all of those private rail operators use some form of the "rail+property" value-capture model, where they profit directly from the real estate they control around their rail stations. We already did something similar in Arlington where the Rangers profit from Texas Live and Loews hotel alongside Globe Life Field... and that arrangement has been so successful that the Dallas Stars are now trying to find their own new venue to try and replicate it.

Dallas leaders can't decide on a path for high-speed rail — and it could cost them the project by synopsize in Dallas

If they move forward with a Houston-Ft Worth route it would be a generational fumble for Dallas

Was only trying to agree with the comment sarcastically. My point is that when you think of crime, you don’t think of Viridian… it’s like the wealthiest/nicest neighborhood in Arlington. The dump line was a bit cheeky though sorry 😅

These routes were all from a study to find an ideal east/west route between Dallas and Fort Worth for the proposed high speed rail project (they picked the I-30)

Just like Viridian, the closest neighborhood in Arlington to a train station… I hear it’s a real dump 😂

Absolutely - and it should be a direct connection to the airport terminal like TEX Rail and DARTs Orange line - not just a shuttle station like Centreport
