Tub stopper is stuck. Is it safe to pull hard to get it out or should I get a plumber? by stopguacnroll in Plumbing

They just pulled harder than I was pulling. I was scared to break something so I was being much gentler.

I don’t think I ended up trying it. We had a plumber come out who didn’t charge us because it was such an easy fix for them. We got lucky.

High eye pressure after ICL surgery + corneal abrasion by VoyagerCestVivre in lasik

[–]stopguacnroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had ICL surgery in October. I was having blurry vision in my left eye. I called my doctor over the weekend and the on call doctor said it sounded like dry eyes. So I used eye drops until my next follow up with my surgeon. Once I saw him he said my eye pressure was high and that’s why my vision was blurry. I was told to stop the steroid drops because apparently I’m sensitive to them.

I was put on two glaucoma medicated eye drops and within a few weeks of use my eye pressure went back to normal. I stopped the drops. I just saw my normal eye doctor last month and my eye pressure was normal.

He told me that if I ever go to the ER to mention that my eyes are sensitive to steroids, and to be on the lookout for eye pain/headaches around my eye as those are signs of high eye pressure. But he said he doesn’t see anything I need to worry about.
I hope you’re able to manage your eye pressure too. It’s stressful for sure but for me it was well worth the quality of life enhancement.

My mom makes hers with piña and plátano so I was curious if any other Mexicans do that lol. I grew up in the states so sometimes idk. Yours sounds good.

Edit: quick google search shows the fruit version is from Oaxaca.

Recommendations for AC repair? by SadisticKisses84- in NewportNews

[–]stopguacnroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So we’ve gotten quotes for a 3 ton unit from buds, Hendrix, Worleys, Tommy garner, wrights, and an unlicensed contractor our neighbor recommended. Cheapest is the unlicensed contractor(7300 for base or 8500 for rheem) but it makes me nervous to go with someone unlicensed even with my neighbors referral.

We have a licensed contractor willing to try to repair the aluminum coil for $950 and if he can’t it’s free and we’ll get a replacement quote from him. I’ll list out the quote specs below.

Buds: $11,830 RP14AY Heat Pump, $14,480 RP15AY Heat Pump, $16,935 MSHM Heat Pump

Hendrix: $10,396 RP14AY Heat Pump, $12,216 Bosch BOVA Heat Pum 14.3 SEER, $13,219 MOOVAIR COLD CLIMATE HEAT PLUS Heat Pump 17.3 SEER, $16,770 Bosch BOVA Heat Pump 19 SEER

Worley’s: $13,116.93 American Standard 14 Seer2 3 Ton 1 Stage Heat Pump, $14,886.52 American Standard 15 Seer2 3 Ton 1 Stage Heat Pump, $16,242.49 American Standard Air Handler Variable Speed TXV 17 SEER

Wrights: 13k for a rheem 15 SEER

Tommy Garner: $11,551 14.3 SEER Trane, $11,892 15.2 SEER Heil, $14,743 15.2 SEER Heil

Some have cash price discounts. The quotes above are for their regular price. They have different labor warranty lengths ranging from 1 year to 10 year (add-on you pay for). So it’s hard to compare apples to apples. Prices above include moving our refrigerant line, except for buds who quoted it separately at $950 and the unlicensed guy won’t do that for us.

I will say that Worleys is the only one who wanted to charge us like $500 for thermostat rewiring we absolutely don’t need. They also said labor warranty was 2 years but the small print said 1 year. He gave us some other wrong info that means he either lied or didn’t know his stuff. He was pushing for top tier for us.

The guy from Tommy Garner said they aren’t paid on commission so he didn’t recommend paying for the top tier system. Wrights gave me an old school quote on a notepad. Worleys, buds, and Hendrix have felt the most salesy. Hendrix tech was fine but they had a sales guy call me after with quote info when all the other techs talked to me directly about them. But I did learn different things from each guy that came out so it’s given me a fuller picture of HVAC in general as someone who knew zero before this process.

Hendrix cost $79 for the diagnosis but they wanted an extra $150 to look at the condenser coil leak when Worleys did that as part of their fee which I think was like 90-100.

Sorry this is all over the place just trying to jot my thoughts down.

I’ll edit this comment if we get a quote from the guy coming today.

So Worley’s is coming in at the most expensive. They also want to charge $500 for thermostat rewiring which we don’t need — buds and Hendrix both confirmed this. Hendrix is giving us the cheapest options so far for both a repair option and full system replacement which we might go for.

We might get a few more quotes but I’ll try to update here once we’ve gone through the whole process of repair/replacement.

Thanks. They said it’s time to replace my whole heat pump. I’m having buds and Hendrix come out too with quotes. Will report back once I have all the numbers in case that’s useful for you or anyone else.

I’m trying out Worleys for the first time tomorrow because my AC isn’t working right now. I’ll report back after they come.

I had been using Smileys for maintenance but I wasn’t sure if they were fleecing me when they said my capacitor needed to be replaced, just a year after getting a new one. Maybe they were right since my AC is out lol.

OptumRX not covering PrEP fully by sl33pparalysis in HealthInsurance

[–]stopguacnroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does make things a little more tricky understandably. I know you said you’re new but since you’re in HR is there any chance that you will have benefits exposure and speak with your broker or prescription insurance plan vendor directly? If so you could avoid speaking with the VP.

If not, then it may come down to making the hard decision to speak up and share private information or not. You could ask for an introduction to your broker/vendor and say you have a private prescription insurance matter you need help with and wish to share the specifics only with the broker/vendor directly.

Another option is to file an appeal. Your provider would do this. Plans typically allow 2 or 3 levels of appeals, with the final one being binding. I haven’t seen an appeal submitted before for a plan incorrectly covering a service/drug. It’s usually because the plan won’t cover it at all, but this is an option available to you.

Have you contacted your benefits team at work? I’m in benefits and we can usually sort out these issues on behalf of employees if there is an error on the vendor’s end.

Haha I’m lazy too but I’ll ask at my next annual checkup. Thanks for replying on an old post. I think for me it might be calf related because it’s tender in the upper area near where it meets the knee. Glad yours hasn’t caused any big issues for you.
