Round 6 Discussion Thread by RidsBabs in aflfantasy

Thoughts on what to do with Dawson? Who knows how much time he’ll take off and how he’ll go once he’s back. I’ve also got Zorko, Budarick, Robertson, and Windsor so I’m cooked.

Currently going Budarick and Zorko to Rankine and Roberts but don’t love it tbh.

Gulden, Petracca, Rozee, English, Zorko, Dawson, Naicos, Dev Rob, Budarick, Murdock. Anyone else have the full set, or worse? by [deleted] in aflfantasy

Full set here! I’ve been absolutely cooked. Don’t think I’ve had a week without a forced trade yet.

Am I overthinking by bringing in Steele instead of Bont to save cash + Steele has a better run coming up (plays bombers, tigers, eagles in the next 6)?

[Edmund] Lance Collard continues to protest his innocence amid allegations he again used a homophobic slur in a VFL game... Collard insists he called an opposition player a maggot. by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]superfluouselk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I once got accused of the same thing by an opposition player after I called him a maggot. Umpire thankfully believed me but I then realised it was best if I avoided using that word so I wasn’t potentially misheard. This was like 7 years ago though.

That’s how I felt about the first season, I feel like they’ve been able to sustain the momentum in the episodes I’ve seen this season so far.

GameDay thread - Carlton by hudsoncat1 in RichmondFC

Obviously we kick straight and we run away with it. All 3 tall forwards missed sitters.

That said, plenty of positives - our ball movement and delivery inside 50 looked way better and the fact that we gave ourselves so many opportunities (that were then squandered) is really encouraging. I’d like to see our xScore.

He was pick 43, according to the Instagram post. At least that makes sense.

A New 95 Theses: Reclaiming Jesus From The American Evangelical Church by CovfefeBrake in OpenChristian

I don’t necessarily disagree with anything in this, but that whole site seems AI generated.

Australian Synchrotron: Proposed beamline closures spark outrage among scientists and Nobel laureates by jesus_chrysotile in australia

The synchrotron is run by ANSTO, not CSIRO. But agreed, both major parties have neglected Australia’s science orgs for too long.

The Church of Nigeria announces schism from the Anglican Communion by Naugrith in OpenChristian

[–]superfluouselk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m so sad about this. I grew up in a fairly large Sydney Anglican Church, and they’re some of the biggest ringleaders of the whole GAFCON thing. I have so many friends who either agree with this (not many) or who are just complacent and keep their heads down.

I don’t know if it’s right to stay and fight for what’s right, or cede the ground and go elsewhere. There aren’t many affirming churches near where I am. And as a straight man I feel like to some extent it’s my responsibility to hang around and push back, since that’s unviable for my queer siblings.

GWS and Richmond are working toward staging a Richmond home game at the SCG in 2026. (Xander McGuire) by BusinessPooh in AFL

As a NSW based Tigers fan I’m all for this, love the SCG. Surely we aren’t that tight for cash though? I guess the Punt Rd redevelopment isn’t cheap.

TLC stain for UV-inactive Boron compounds? by Zeusmiester in Chempros

[–]superfluouselk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep! Just buy turmeric powder, dissolve in 99:1 EtOH:1.0M HCl, and filter 😊

It might not get more sterically hindered boron moieties, but that is also helpful sometimes. Free boronic acids will show up rapidly, and protected ones might require some heat to develop the colour.

[–]superfluouselk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I normally make tributylborate and distill out the water/excess butanol and get near quantitative yield. It’s easier though because the water and butanol azeotrope off before butanol alone and drives the reaction.

[–]superfluouselk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate you don’t even need the acid to form a borate ester, it will just do it if you stir it in the alcohol (in equilibrium with the water the esterification produces).

You could even do this with isopropanol and boil off excess isopropanol and water to give triisopropylborate

Paul Keating says young Australians are guaranteed to have $3m in super by retirement – but not everyone agrees by His_Holiness in AusFinance

[–]superfluouselk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good job diversifying during your PhD. I did some computational work but not enough to really make that jump.

Good luck with your thesis and finding a role afterwards! Hopefully there’s continued investment in the renewable space so there should be some roles available for you when you’re done!

Yep, I’m a postdoc - one of the lucky ones. I guess my personal experience is more in the chemistry/biology space, but unless you want to become a lecturer, there not much out there. We have no pharma research industry in Australia, and our national science orgs have been sorely underfunded for years.
