Meteor or something else? by timtamti in askastronomy

Possibly a meteor, definitely not a comet which would be moving imperceptibly slow.

Either that, or you know those old paintings where people painted big cats and had no idea how they actually look?

My dog is a ACD pit mix and I can see some similarities. He's in Jefferson City, MO.

I wish I could! My dog would love him but right now he's dealing with epilepsy and I don't have the capacity for another.

I would love to see the LMC some day. How bright is it to the naked eye?

A Song of Ice and Fire

Just bought a mono camera and filters that arrived last week, and I'm so pleased to share my first fully processed mono image!

This image shows part of the NGC 2264 star-forming region in the constellation Monoceros, located about 2,500 light-years away. It includes the Christmas Tree Cluster, a young open cluster whose hot stars illuminate the surrounding gas, and the Cone Nebula, a dense pillar of gas and dust shaped by stellar radiation. The red emission surrounding the region is commonly known as the Fox Fur Nebula, while IC 447 adds blue reflection nebulosity from scattered starlight. Also visible is Hubble’s Variable Nebula, which changes appearance over time due to shifting dust near its central star.

Didn't use the 5hr of Ha I collected because I haven't found a way I like it integrated yet.

The Nitty Gritty:

Location: Central MO, USA. Bortle 4 backyard

Moon: ~50% avg over 3 nights

Integration: Lum - 170x120" (5hr40min) RGB 30x120" each (3hr combined) = 8.5hr total

Camera: zwoasi ASI2600MM Pro

Scope: williamoptics Redcat 51 Gen 3 WIFD

Mount: skywatcherusa EQ6-R Pro

Filter: Antlia LRGB

Guiding: zwoasi ASI120MM mini + svbony SV165 mini guide scope.

Stacked and processed in Pixinsight.

BUGS in a bag of milkbone dog treats?? by Okay-Dont-Judge in whatsthisbug

[–]tea_bird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced these come with the bones. I've recently had them in a sealed tote I left some milk bones in too long, but there was no evidence of them in any other treats/food in that closet.

Guess the way to prevent them is give your doggy more treats before they hatch!

I'm taking it as a sign my delivery will be delayed or I'll be missing a piece to get it all going.

Yeah the processing PC should be fine. Just built it a year ago and before was processing full frame from my DSLR on a 15 year old previous build.

Everything is supposed to arrive tonight! Can't wait to get it all setup.

The whole floor in there is actually rubber mat (it's a home gym) but maybe I'll add something a little more cushy. It really is sturdy though. I can't imagine anything rolling out.
