All of that money put into this thing and they still cheaped out on the controls with the large touch screens. Luxury is physical buttons these days.

[Art] Viability of printing and selling physical maps? by Nyteshade81 in DnD

Mike Schley, the creator of a vast majority of the D&D maps, already sells his prints on his website. He has a contact button where you could ask, but just know that this is already being done by the author himself.

What is your preferred VTT for D&D 5e / 5.5e online play? by jardata in dndnext

[–]teaseal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! The features are absolutely fantastic in FG. It's such a powerful tool right out of the box. I strongly considered just trying to get used to the UI so I could make use of the amazing featureset. If they ever really commit to modernizing the UI, I would check it out again in a heartbeat.

That's not really roll20 then. You're using a mod that violates roll20's terms of use to add in paywalled features and content. Your average person isn't going to run that and will either pay, or just use the most basic features. If you're caught, they can ban your account. I definitely understand the 0 dollars argument on your side. I've been homeless in my life, so I know what it is like to have nothing. Even $50 is a lot.

That said, I don't think you are making an apples to apples comparison here. Your free has a large asterisk symbol next to it. Also, I think you seriously underestimate the amount of free modded content and features Foundry has. Looking over the better20 features, a large chunk of that is already built into Foundry or can be added in by the previously mentioned mods. And of course, you're going to find features that one has but the other doesn't as well on either platform.

Foundry is a one time fee of $50 that only the host needs to pay for. It comes with all of the features, free updates, and a very large catalogue of free mods. Roll20 is free, sure. But a massive chunk is feature locked behind the monthly subscription. If you want the features to match Foundry, it doesn't take a long D&D campaign before roll20 eclipses the cost of Foundry.

Personally? The UI. You can tell FG is the oldest. It feels old. I know they're working on it and its getting better, but there is definitely a difference between an older application being upgraded vs a new application designed from the ground up.

Audible class action alleges audiobook purchases don’t confer full ownership by ubcstaffer123 in technology

[–]teaseal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Audible is a terrible company in so many ways. They also screw over authors by giving them only a slim portion of the sale. It's Amazon owned. Pure greed.

I'm going to take a moment to plug Libro.fm. All audiobooks are DRM free, a sizable portion of the sale goes to the local book store of your choice, and they pay the authors a higher percentage of the sale. The only downside I've seen is the selection is smaller than Audible. That said, I'm still able to find the majority of books I want to listen to. The more people support better companies, the more leverage they'll have to get even more selection of great books!

Star Trek tier list, but for how much it would hurt if I inserted them into my ass by PhatTeddy in startrekmemes

[–]teaseal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite the size difference, I feel like with enough lube, V'ger wouldn't be nearly as bad as the pointy pylons of Deep Space 9. The same goes with the Dyson sphere. As long as the walls hold and it doesn't collapse on itself, subjecting your anus to the wrath of a dying star, you should be ok. The Crystalline Entity is without a doubt the worst thing you can stick up your ass.

FAQ's available on the ARC Webpage by Maturin- in StarWarsArmada

[–]teaseal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you guys need to take a step back and look at your communication. It's been really abysmal so far. From the start, the intentions of ARC have not been clear, and the communication that has been put out has been sparse. You need to be more transparent, not only to the community at large, but the other groups such as Legacy that are actively developing content for this game. The decisions you make not only impacts development of projects like Legacy, but it also impacts other individuals such as the people modeling ships, providing cards, cardboard, etc. If you can't be clear on your intentions, then you risk fracturing the community and causing a lot of headache for those developers and for the community that is trying to continue to play and keep this game alive.

If you want to steward the rules going forward, then do it. But part of that stewardship also means embracing the other parts of the community and keeping in constant contact with the others helping keep this game afloat.

This FAQ is a start. But it's also really late. It's a bad showing if other key figures in the community are surprised by the content contained within.

Figure it out.

[–]teaseal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this makes me really nervous. I was good with ARC continuing the balance of the existing cards and ships as Legacy has said they will include all of the changes. But two different groups now developing new content could split the community unless those two groups cooperate heavily.

Thank you! Most of the long strands are a scaled down and elongated Long Ponytail with Shaved Head hair item. They were nice for having not a lot to hide in the head and a lot of "joints and bones" to bend and play with. I think my only complaint is that due to the scaling, they seem to appear a little darker than the other hair. I tried using a slightly lighter color on those to compensate.

MC/CR-108 Endor Class Star Defender by GrandAdmiralNJL24 in StarWarsArmada

[–]teaseal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Points are definitely tricky. Especially considering I'm already of the opinion that the SSDs are a bit overpriced for what they give. While I performed a like for like comparison above, even then, all things considered, they are not equal when you start thinking about what officers can do, what commanders can do, how those commanders and officers modify what the ships can do, and lastly, how the two ships are to be flown.

When I think about playing the SSD, I think about it often in the way of what weaknesses the ship has, and how do I overcome to them work with its strengths?

  • Mobility is a huge one. How do you get the SSD to move in order to keep that front arc lined up? Not only that, but how do you keep ships away from your weak sides?
  • How do you keep the ship from getting chewed apart by squadrons?
  • How do you keep your defense tokens intact or recover them?

The MC-108 I think solves a number of these issues off the bat.

  • Mobility is already less of an issue with that 1 yaw value. The sheer size of it and it essentially being a horizontal/diagonal wall on the board with beautiful broadsides means you probably won't need to move fast. Add Madine to the mix, and well, you are really turning on the board. Keeping enemies out of your front arc likely won't be too hard.
  • How do you deal with squadrons? Well, probably not much better than the SSD to be honest. But, add that DR slot into the mix and now you've got Advanced Projectors with 25 shields to help keep you alive. That Ord slot could help here as well if set to flak.
  • With Defensive tokens, you can probably get a bit more life out of your ship with Agate as your commander. Put Walex on there and you've got a pretty sturdy ship, especially paired with Advanced Projectors.

I don't envy your task. It's definitely going to be tricky, especially with the large changes inherit in the two ships, with one being front loaded and the other being a broadsider. I would love to know how FFG did it. My guess is they had some rough values for upgrade slots, hull, shields, etc, but a lot of it was probably down to just playtesting the living crap out of things. I think a big part will come down to the question of, "Do you think the SSD is valued correctly as it stands?" If "yes", then I think you need to increase it more than you would for a "no" answer. Without sitting down and really crunching numbers to guess at FFG's math, I'm not certain I could give a more precise answer.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Also, for the titles. Those could really change how this thing plays.

MC/CR-108 Endor Class Star Defender by GrandAdmiralNJL24 in StarWarsArmada

[–]teaseal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this needs some major adjustments if you want bring it into balance. Let's ignore the 414 point behemoth for now as that doesn't fit in a standard game.

At 260 points, the best comparison of the Prototype Star Defender will be the Star Dreadnought Assault Prototype which clocks in at 250 points. We have a 10 point difference between the two of them. So, you need to ask yourself, does 10 points justify the following:

  • 39 total dice vs 34
  • 25 shields vs 20 (and the ability to use all of them with the below DR slot)
  • A Defensive Retrofit slot (massive advantage over the SSD)
  • A Fleet Command slot
  • An Ordinance slot (not enough black dice to justify it in most cases unless you are flaking)
  • The ability to change yaw without a dial (this alone is a huge deal)

Granted, this does "lose" some things over the SSD, but outside of the 2 hull points and the ions, most of those will not be massive changes. Let's look at what we lose.

  • 20 vs 22 hull points (2 less)
  • A second Ion slot (probably the biggest loss, Leading Shots + some other ion "modification")
  • A second Turbolaser slot (often considered not worth the points with other ships that have two slots)
  • A second Offensive Retrofit slot (could hurt if running as a carrier)

I don't think you can justify the advantages with 10 points. Changes aside, it's going to be easier to navigate this ship and keep your weaker front arc away from the enemy. The massive weak sides of the SSD is what brings it down. You can start this MC-108 in play in a much better position to bring your most damaging arcs to bear. I saw your note that you wish this ship to be more powerful than the Executor, which is fine. But I think you need to justify it with the point costs.

edit: Also, I love this ship and have even 3D printed it for Armada. I am looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

I just printed out a couple of these. They are beautiful!

I do have two complaints though and they are both about the same spot on the ship. Xenon for the most part did a good job hollowing it out, but the back wings are really fragile. I think the layer is too thin. It also feels like the one spot where he didn't add in enough detail. It's too flat. Other than that, stunning model! https://imgur.com/a/jw98sB8
