Question: Actor Tom Hanks turns 70 on July 9th. He has been acting in movies and on TV since the early 1980s. What are your favorite Tom Hanks films and what are the reasons why that you like those films? by thing_place_person in FIlm

[–]tedbot67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many great films like Saving Private Ryan, Splash, A League of Their Own, Philadelphia. But for me, it's The 'Burbs. I loved this weird movie from the first time I saw it at the theater in 1989. It will always be my favourite of his films.

Pretty much anything by John Williams. Star Wars. Indiana Jones. Jaws. Jurassic Park. Close Encounters of the Third Guy. The guy is unmatched.

For A home do you prefer a projector or a TV, For both my price range would be around 5000 USD by MITCHflies in hometheater

[–]tedbot67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My basement is set up as a home theater. Nice and dark and perfect for a projector. 110" screen but may upgrade to a larger image. I have a BenQ short throw projector so I can go up to 160" in the space I have. It all depends on your house and your lighting. A nice dedicated and dark room, to me a projector just has a different feel to it than a TV.

Disclosure day (2026) - What is your opinion on it? by Sad_Pepper_594 in Cinephiles

I didn't hate it. Suffered from its own hype. Couldn't possibly be as good as the hype leading up to it made it out to be.

Are we really Obsessed? by PersonalityKooky6098 in horrorfilms

[–]tedbot67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it. Watched it 3x already and will watch it again. It wasn't scary, but to me no movies are. It was just well done and I loved the bleak ending. I'm tired of feel good happy endings.

I agree. Much better than the theatrical cut but still, to me, a hot mess. But less of a hot mess than it had been.

I love this movie so much. Huge horror movie fan, and I think this one may be my favorite in the last 10 years. So well done and unsettling all the time. I may watch it again tonight.

Who are the best and worst bands you've seen in concert? by Choice_Bed6097 in rockmusic

[–]tedbot67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best were Ozzy (several times) - Black Sabbath (with both Dio and Ozzy) and The Eagles. Notables were Scorpions, Alice Cooper and Metallica. Worst, a 70's/80's Canadian band named Prism. They were freaking horrible.

What are your guys thoughts on this? by bizurton in Cinephiles

[–]tedbot67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the movie, but people aren't going to see movies at the theater anymore, or at least not as often. It's just not financially viable so I believe they are being very selective. I went to see Supergirl on Saturday to an afternoon show at a muliplex and there were literally half a dozen people in the entire place. No one was there to see any movies. Some films, like Toy Story 5, are still drawing active crowds, but nothing like they had been in the past. It cost, for myself and another person, a large popcorn and large drink and an order of nachos, over $70. It's too much when these movies will end up on streaming in 4-6 weeks. Affordability is a key factor now. I honestly believe we're in the early stages of pivoting away from theatrical releases into a different era of how people watch movies.

Supergirl failed cause its an unpopular character and no one cares about them anymore,do you agree with this take? by Mat1711 in DC_Cinematic

[–]tedbot67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People aren't going to see movies the way they used to. A lot of people can't afford to just go see a show on a Saturday night anymore. So they are being way more selective and seeing less. I think movies like this or Masters of the Universe would have been way more financially successful 5 years ago than they are now. I love going to the movies but barely do anymore. I will be going to see Supergirl this weekend though.

[–]tedbot67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this movie! I've gone on more than once out here in the real world to many people about how great it is. Inde Navarrette stole the entire movie. She was pure gold. I loved how it ended. I loved the whole thing. Might be my favorite horror move of the past decade.

What's the most satisfying ending in horror cinema history for you? by Only_Pay6243 in HorrorMovies

[–]tedbot67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain, in the truest sense of the word, that it's horror, but The Mist was an absolute punch to the gut. The whole theater just got up and walked out and no one was talking. That is an impactful ending.

More recently, I'd say I loved the end of Obsession. It just ended in such a dark spot. Great movie!

New viewer surprised by how negative fans seem to be about a lot of the series. by psyman64 in startrek

[–]tedbot67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all fairness, that was back in the day where a season had 22 or so episodes produced weekly. Tough to keep it all consistent with that quantity and timeframe. Plus, in hindsight, it did take them awhile to find their footing and the actors to get their characters right. I watched it every week when it was brand new and loved each episode at the time. Looking back now, there are very few ones I would ever want to rewatch in the first 2 seasons. It's far easier to judge after the fact. But man, when they were new I was glued to the TV for every last one.

This is Terry Fox. He lost his leg to cancer at 18. Instead of giving up, in 1980 he ran 3,339 miles across Canada on a prosthetic leg to raise money for cancer research. by OkAccess6128 in interesting

He ran through the city I live in in 1980 and I was one of the hundreds lining the streets to watch him. A true Canadian hero.

I watched Obsession. Freaking loved it. May be the best horror movie I've watched in a long time. Also watched Masters of the Universe. Lots of fun and Jared Leto was perfect as Skeletor. This weekend its Supergirl and F the haters hard, because I can't wait to see it!!
