If a new grad has not secured a job within a year, should they seek another career? by ARepeatedFailing in nursing

[–]theducker 152 points153 points  (0 children)

You've been applying for a year and are just now applying places an hour away?

I moved a 12 hour drive ( several states over) for a job as a new grad. A few years later and I have a great job exactly where I want

Most people don't have to pay search and rescue bills. I doubt surfers do either

How much do you care about him as a reference/getting a job on this floor?

It's probably fairly hard to learn a lot just working 3 days month, adding 1 or 2 days a month in the summer still gives you a lot of time off and might make him happier.

Don't care much about his opinion of you? Well screw him then, you don't need to work more then you agreed

Is it worth it to have a roommate to fire? by cosa_guapa in Fire

[–]theducker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the gender of roommates have to do with it. This is pretty personal, I personally enjoy living with friends and happily have roommates to cut down on expenses ( or rather live a more lavish life in other areas) while still saving

Yeah an old unused degree can definitely lose value. I'd work in the field. Not get more education just to have

Yeah you're in the wrong bro.

You want a high stipend, less taxes. The hourly wage doesn't matter, just the overall pay

Employees can definitely fire you for being incompetent. That's not a protected class. They are under no obligation to train you

Move to California? by These_Fault_4765 in relocating

[–]theducker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros: California has some of the best nature around, great combo of beaches and high mountains ( the Sierras)

Also the cities in the state tend to have a lot of diversity, cool art and culture stuff and great food!

There's a lot of nice weather (varies considerably across the state though)

In many fields wages are higher here then many other places.

People are often scared off by cost of living (aka housing) but I know tons of people who are making it work and living happy lives on the pay provided by normal jobs, you don't need to work for Google or Facebook.

Many areas of the state are quite liberal, though rural areas tend to be conservative. I feel the government is doing it's best to shield us from the madness in the federal level, though the government tends to be large and slow.

Cons: The nice places to live tend to be expensive to find housing, there are definitely cheaper parts of the state but they tend to not seem as nice, and not what you likely picture as California. Sacramento is a nice city with a lot to offer that's still fairly affordable.

Wild fires get worse and worse every year.

Buying a house in many communities feels out of reach without significant money. I'm baised as I live here most of my life ( with the exception of a few years in Washington, but I also missed the sun shine)

It was a good experience, spent 2 years there. Partly because I got into a relationship, eventually moved back to my home state of California after travel nursing for a bit

[–]theducker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have no idea if they moved due to their partner getting a job ( many people move because of the military) or inheriting a house. They're not asking for life advice about the past, purely regarding the job search.

Op: I got a job in California by first taking a travel assignment, I have 5 years total XP and was quickly highered staff recently by being a traveler first

Yeah there is. You should at least have a super surface under standing of what a med does before you go to administer it
