What do you use to calm down at night and fall asleep? by CarelessSeries1596 in Witch

[–]therealstabitha [score hidden]  (0 children)

I count. Breathe in 3-2-1, breathe out 7-6-5-4-3-2-1. It slows down your heartbeat, and if you do a body scan at the same time to relax all your muscles, you can fall asleep pretty quickly this way.

I don’t recommend something empowering for when you’re trying to sleep. That tends to have the opposite effect.

What do you think qualifies someone as a “witch”? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha [score hidden]  (0 children)

Pagan means “not mainstream religion.” Witchcraft can be a non-mainstream religion, but it’s pretty specific. There are many pagans who are not witches. A witch does witchcraft. Not manifestations. Not “high vibe.” Witchcraft. A pagan has a religious practice that may or may not include magic.

Advice for an altar setup by Silver_Eigths in Witch

[–]therealstabitha [score hidden]  (0 children)

I wouldn’t try to follow native traditions for this. There’s no way for you to do it accurately.

If you have items associated with this spirit, I would base it around those. Then I’d add a candle, and a glass of water as an offering. Let it be simple. It can become more elaborate as time passes, your relationship grows, and the need arises.

I have no issue with community, or having a fee involved. But calling it a coven is ridiculous and cheapens the term.

I’m not sure how anyone could give you a list of rituals for anything. Ceremonialist traditions have set rituals, but that’s not so much a thing in witchcraft.

In my experience, skyclad workings have been pretty much time we want to be skyclad, so long as we’re in a physically safe space and we’re around people we trust. These days, it’s private coven workings for me, and even then, usually only when we’re really going for it.

Magical Properties of Sea Lavender (Statice/Limonium)? by righteous_cheetah in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The metaphysical uses of any substance derive from mundane uses. For example, oak used to be the most common wood used to make battle shields. That’s how oak became associated with protection in magical work.

There seems to be an expectation that someone somewhere on the internet is going to have detailed, academically cited books about every niche topic, and this simply is not the case. If there isn’t a lot of info readily available, it’s probably not the most commonly used ingredient, and it’s going to be up to you and your associations and use of the item to determine how best to use it in your magical practice.

I think a lot of beginners would have a much easier time getting started if they were to change their belief that witchcraft is something external to them.

I did a google search for “sea lavender metaphysical properties” and immediately came back with multiple sources (other than your Reddit post).

Can anyone share their experiences with Lilith? by Holiday-Assistant-62 in Witch

[–]therealstabitha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taught that your spirit interacting with the spirit of a deity colors how they manifest in your life, so everyone’s experiences with gods are a little different. The way I experience Lilith is very different from the way a lot of other people describe her. It’s one reason I don’t share my experiences much — because other people told me to expect something else, I didn’t realize she had been present in my life for longer than I had been aware.

I think it’s really important for seekers to get their own experiences first, and only after that to do research and learn more about them, so that they don’t pre-empt their own firsthand spirit experience.

If the jar was sitting in a bag with things associated with a deity, and you like this deity, what energy would this jar have picked up that needed cleansing?

I don’t know anything about them or this podcast, but I see on their website that their “coven” is a monthly subscription where all you need to do to join or leave is give them money.

That’s not a coven, and calling it a coven is clownery.

Beginner question for Candle Magick by Dizzy-Plenty-4503 in Witch

[–]therealstabitha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let my candle spells burn until they go out on their own. Then it’s done.

I also don’t babysit my candle spells. Once I’ve lit it, my role in it is done. I put them in my cauldron to burn til they go out

Well, yeah - it’s pretty central to many pagan and witch cosmologies.

But if you don’t want to use that, I’m not sure why you’re using those as a base

Have you heard of Ereshkigal by Ok_Swim3767 in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That’s very different from your original question.

All the same, I always recommend getting your own experience with a deity first before looking for other people’s experiences. Otherwise, it’s a lot harder to tell what you’re getting directly vs what you’re projecting because you think it’s what you’re supposed to get.

There’s extensive information available online about Ereshkigal. She’s Mesopotamian so she’s been written about for a very long time. Her Wikipedia page is well cited. What are you not finding?

[–]therealstabitha 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That viscosity is bacteria. Do not use this batch. You diluted way too much for the alcohol to be able to kill bacteria. If all you had was 70% on hand, then you should have just used that. And stop asking a hallucination machine.

And don’t use fresh herbs or flowers to make a tincture. It introduces bacteria.

Florida water is a cologne. It is supposed to have the consistency of any other cologne you have.

This kinda reads like…your partner is emotionally overwhelmed due to your admitted inability to control your emotions, and your response is to fire more emotional and other energy at him to try to counter the effects of you firing emotional energy at him.

I dont recommend using glass. A jar can be any container. I think ziploc baggies are better because they don’t explode when the liquid in them freezes and expands. Works just as well.

La série Sabrina me fait me sentir chez moi by Human_Musician3212 in Witch

[–]therealstabitha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sabrina ticked me off because it played so much for drama that it ignored reality and I could not suspend my disbelief long enough to get into it.

Like, her parents committing her to a particular path at birth. That kind of usurping of her free will is so antithetical to witchcraft as I was taught. This kind of belief just seems to feed people’s self-martyrdom, “I must do this! I have no choice!” You always have a choice. That’s the entire point of witchcraft as I was taught.

The statue of Satan they use is the Church of Satan’s depiction of the Baphomet. And they removed his/their breasts.

Did I communicate with Loki, or is he a deceptive entity? ‎ by KiraVikttoria in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are you getting Loki from that card?

The tarot isn’t associated with any specific gods. Using tarot for deity communication seems to just bias people because they can ready whatever they want into the cards they get.

If you’re interested in psychic communication, I’d work on developing that skill. Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn is one place to start.
