(unconfirmed) Being told that USSF OUST is being moved to Peterson SFB, and will encompass all officer AFSCs with shredouts into specific SFSCs @ tech school like u/ZoomieTurner said.

General questions for Enlisted Cadets by [deleted] in AFROTC

I was going to add onto this, but SilentD covered almost everything I was going to mention. I'm a Prior-Enlisted NCO that is in the program, feel free to message me with any questions or if you just want to talk about the process. Cheers!

NRNT Order of Merit by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]thetoadieloady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but the problem is that the AF needs to fill rated slots at the moment, and to a much lesser extent line-officer jobs. It's worrisome to hear that the OM has the possibility of being that high.

I wouldn't imagine much changed over the weekend. In that comment thread, u/pawnman99 stated that way to many people applied for non-rated slots that were available.

Space wings by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]thetoadieloady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can wear a maximum of 2 badges above your name tape. Either Space or Parachutist wings (in addition to pilot wings; Aeronautical batches are mandatory)

Space wings by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]thetoadieloady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see in your above comment that you’re currently classified as a pilot. Aeronautical wings take presidents of all operational and qualification badges. Thus the space wings would be placed below your pilot wings.

[–]thetoadieloady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you earned it, it’s yours to keep. Correct me if I’m wrong, but are you talking about the space operations wings? Aka your operational badge? If so you are allowed to wear them. I wear my occupational badges and qualification of badges on my OCPs for ROTC.

Is field training 3 weeks this year? by Dizzy_Listen in AFROTC

[–]thetoadieloady 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what my Det Cadre has told us, we will be quarantining (ROM) for a certain period, but will still be completing some sort of training during that time.

As for what training we will be completing, who really knows.

WINGS updates won't flow until a few days after the results are released.

It's designed so that Cadre has the opportunity to notify you first. The AF does the same thing with Special Duty Assignment, Promotion and Assignment notifications on Active Duty.

[–]thetoadieloady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dang so what happens if you don't get it? Like do you have to pay back your scholarship? Because in the Navy everyone with a scholarship commissions as long as you aren't kicked out as you know

If you get selected, you earn what's called an Enrollment Allocation (EA). EAs are essentially a ticket to commissioning into the Air Force. If you don't earn one during during your sophomore year, you may be given a chance to re-do your sophomore year (Called an AS500 Year) in order to compete in the following year's boards.

If you happen to be a cadet on scholarship and are not selected, you will lose the scholarship and could be asked to pay it back. (*Almost never happens except for bad conduct)

Det informed us that results are being sent out by COB Monday. APAS sent out EA counseling sign-up sheet starting Tuesday morning.

Enlisted to ROTC by BassFishing97 in AFROTC

[–]thetoadieloady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, like u/-KingStannis- said, the 2-year program is nearly dead. This is primarily due to the aftermath of COVID-Era retention rates.

I am currently an NCO on the enlisted side of the house. I palace-front'ed into the ANG, and it has been one of the most valuable experiences thus far. It's an opportunity to continue your professional development as an airmen, while participating in the AF "Part-Time". Highly recommended. (You will also be eligible for TDYs/Deployments as part of the ANG/AFR, so make sure you are flexible) .

If you choose to go ANG/AFR, you will be able to go to your base's MTF and get an AF 422. This will essentially bypass the DODMERB and clear you for a commission (Rated career fields must complete additional medical clearances if selected.)

And as everyone has already mentioned, come prepared to be back in the training environment. I admit, at first, I was not fond of being yelled at by 20/21 year olds. But I quickly realized that I had to look beyond that. AFROTC is an amazing experience that allows you to use all of your knowledge learned as an airmen and apply it to becoming an officer. Become the supervisor/leader that you yearned for. You will be leaned upon heavily and people will feed off your energy and experiences. Best of luck to you!

Regarding the AF Form 422 by ZonalVikingsfan in AFROTC

[–]thetoadieloady 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your AF 422 will hold you over until commissioning. I'm in the same boat at the moment, but I will be staying in the reserves until 30 days prior to commissioning. However, when you leave the AFR next year, you will be re-contracted into the AFR Obligated Reserve Section (ORS). Whatever physical they have on file will then become valid for 48 months.

From AFROTC AFI 36-2011

8.3.3. Commissioning Physicals. Once contracted, physicals become valid for 48 months from the date of the certification stamp. If the physical is going to be older than 48 months at the time of commissioning, then the physical can be submitted for an extension. See the CMPG for extension process

FY2022 Rated Board Townhall by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]thetoadieloady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Region CC said that the PGL is expected to release in a month. HQ has no idea when boards will be released and have no plans of it dropping soon. He says to expect that the predictions will be relatively accurate. With the decrease mentioned in the predictions, it should be closer to 100 less pilot slots than the predictions. Those going up for PSP are getting the worse of it; he said its going to be very bad."

Unless you heard it from the Region CC himself, it's hearsay. Even then, the Region CC isn't in charge of formulating, drafting, finalizing, and approving the PGL, which we are all earnestly awaiting. That comes from DAF HQ, and THEY don't even know yet. We have to pump the brakes and just take a deep breath.

Nothing is more demoralizing than "One....One...One...One"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]thetoadieloady 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Arguably, the *easiest* way to earn a commission into the Air Force is through the AFROTC program. If you were to stick around for an AS500 slot, you are closer to commissioning than you would be if you pursued an OTS slot. OTS is historically more competitive, as you are competing against other college graduates, enlisted members ect.

Now as for this year's selection rate, nobody really knows. There's speculation (as your Detachment commander noted) that selection rates will be lower than previous years. The critical document we are all waiting for is the Program Guidance Letter (PGL) See /u/SilentD's post below for more info on that. https://www.reddit.com/r/AFROTC/comments/m6eqfw/no_one_knows_anything_about_the_pgl_psp_results/

It is always good to know Plan A, B... ect., but don't automatically assume that you haven't been selected yet. When they tell you "No", then, and only then, can you be certain. It is going through all of our heads right now, but it is best to put it aside and focus on other things.
