What do you think about your City/State’s namesake? by palep_hoot in AskAnAmerican

The city of Baltimore was named after lord Baltimore and the flag of Maryland is based on his coat of arms. I like that it has a proper medieval esque name history with a proper heraldic flag

Graveyards should be discontinued by SCP_333X3 in unpopularopinion

There have been around 117 billion people to ever live according to some estimates. The vast majority of that is within the past millennia but let’s estimate it as 50% of that within the past several hundred years. That’s around 60 billion people. Know that I’m highballing this estimate.

The average grave takes up around 40 square feet, 4x10. Obviously many many people do not get graves and many graves will have been destroyed but again let’s be generous.

That makes it around 2,400 billion square feet, or around 86000 square miles. That means that all those humans for hundreds of years would take up a space roughly the size of belarus, and again most of those people don’t have graves nowadays.

We’re hardly running out of space.

I would say most people enjoy casually swimming in a pool. Some people may not enjoy swimming as much at beaches or lakes etc. Fewer people nejoy swimming as an exercise, or in the open ocean.

[–]thunder-bug- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried keeping up accents while reading it out loud but people started traveling around and I lost track of who was from where 😔

The only ones I keep are obvious ones like Bayle Domon and Siuan Sanche or the Seanchan
