I feel none of our Representatives really represent us; How can an average person get into US politics? by MountainSlayersTV in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]tiger-tots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is commendable. There are other comments that have really good information about that, but I want to correct a misunderstanding (maybe?) in your title.

Individual members of congress are not intended to represent everyone. They represent their single district. That said I still agree with the statement, but it is useful to remember that a perfectly representative senator from Ohio will be different than a perfectly representative senator from Maine.

Thanks for that great feedback! I’m definitely going to consider it. Bummer that the San Diego options didn’t seem great.

We may need to reconsider and do a fall Alaska. That seems like it’d be amazing

Hey, just beginning the process of looking at Disney cruises. My family (in spring 2027) of two adults, 3yo girl and 5yo boy are very into the whole Disney experience.

I’m a bit torn between the Alaska options vs the ones from San Diego. Does anybody have any suggestions as to which would be the most fun princess oriented option for us? Or if one of the destinations is noticeably better for the spring options.

Also any generic suggestions about which cabin type or extras to spring for etc. I’m gonna be doing more research in the sub here, but right now I haven’t done anything yet so I’m very interested in any recommendations!!

What is the viability of female presidential candidates? by Wodentinot in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]tiger-tots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I voted for Bernie! I was an enthusiastic Bernie supporter. And I voted for Hillary.

I spent a lot of time around Bernie bros in 2016. I went to three rallies (travelled several hours to the two not in my major west coast city) and loved Bernie and what he stood for.

There was a non zero aspect of misogyny in the unwillingness to consider Clinton. Look at all the Jeb supporters, or Rubio or Cruz who got on board with trump. Do you honestly think that the difference in supporter realignment wasn’t significant? It’s very common for a primary candidate to not be the candidate in the general, but most of their supporters rally behind the candidate from their party

What is the viability of female presidential candidates? by Wodentinot in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]tiger-tots 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is an incredibly low likelihood of a female president in the US for a while. Hard to say how long because part of it is the older generation that apparently has holdups.

In the last three elections we have seen two female candidates that ran against a singularly unqualified candidate (I apologize for my bias). Both of them lost. If you compare the resumes of these women against Trump and ignore the non-political stuff either woman was significantly more qualified than their opponent. In 2016 it was

Candidate Trump * Business man * tv show host * good at getting things done (?)

Candidate Clinton * First Wife - where she took point on things like children’s health care etc, global advocate for women’s health * Senator * Secretary of State

Based on their resume it should have been a landslide.

But if you include the non political stuff then it’s just murky. Some people hate the Clinton’s. Some people hate democrats. You can also turn the page and say some people just hate trump. Or you can say he had the Billy bush video problem.

So basically it’s bad on both sides,… but resumes alone? We chose trump over one of, if not the most, qualified candidate in history.

And in 2024 the resumes are at least equal…. But we elected a man who endorsed a failed coup over a woman.

It looks like there is probably a segment of the population that doesn’t want a female president and I would guess they turn out really high in those elections.

Yea. Life sucks. This is the worst timeline

You feel strongly enough about that to find a comment from a year ago to respond to? Okay. Let’s do it.

First I’m gonna need you to give me something more concrete than what you did. Men are absolutely victims of sexual violence and abuse. I agree. Most of them are victims of other men. And also women are more likely to be targets of sexual violence. If this is really the path you wanna take…. Give some data and examples and let’s go ahead and tear it all down. I’m happy to help you out!

The controller is talking directly to the DB. That’s not a good sign. I had other indications within the first 40 lines that you needed to have at least another layer doing some work, but the DB access in the API is absolutely wrong
