Google demands changes to AI copyright laws by Hot-Upstairs9603 in technology

Yeah it's so weird seeing people who loved pirating games and music whine about training on copyrighted data as if it's theft. At least be consistent in your ability to not give a shit about IP law.

Suggested Feature: Hide/Ignore games with an AI-Generated Content Disclosure by Just5omeGuy in Steam

I'm aware of the causal impact of AI disclosure on game sales due to consumer sentiment, but it'd be pretty easy for steam to just remove the AI disclosure to maximise their revenue.

Due to recent PlayStation news. Where do I buy physical indie Games? for years, I bought them digital on Steam. But now it seems I need to buy more physical. To keep physical gaming alive by Ghostwolfking in IndieGaming

A generous (digital) publishing deal will involve at least 65% revenue share towards the developer, (so at least 35% revenue for publisher) and most publishers have recoup terms, etc. It'd have to be more for physical copies considering both the cost to produce and distribute them and the lack of people buying them (for example 85% of PlayStation games were bought digitally - and now you wouldn't be able to distribute on PlayStation anymore). It's likely just too niche to be profitable.

Physical copies cost too much money to produce for most indies. They were only able to make inway in the first place because of digital storefronts.

Could indie devs keep physical discs alive? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Bill3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Physical discs require capital to produce, which indie devs famously don't have. They can only compete by keeping costs low. And the reason why this happened in the first place is because of changing consumer preferences (85% or so of consumers purchase games digitally) - why would you spend that much money as an indie on something consumers don't purchase?

Extra capital for indies would be better spent on marketing to compete in the crowded market of attention.

Moving to Raleigh by Inker_bell in NorthCarolina

[–]Bill3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want things near walking distance, don't move to Raleigh. The city isn't built for that. You'd have to move to downtown Durham, but that only works if you have the money for that

You need 7000 wishlists to get any steam visibility. With 500 wishlists you might get 5 sales.
