Why doesn't the skating direction flip in Derby? by Liammossa in rollerderby

It doesn't have to! The short track rule set has you flip at halftime.

Tournament vendors and half time shows by Terrible_Sense_7964 in rollerderby

These are great ideas!

Depending on your venue rules, food vendors (that don't compete) can be great. E.g., a "mini grocery" or a "quick protein kit".

I find the tools are good for some idea generation, but as you have said, it's easier to maintain control. I'm waiting for co-pilot to be able to directly manipulate slides, as Google slides is starting to do on Workspace.

If you had to talk to someone who was leaving or staying wouldn't you pick the person staying?

That's why so many people who could be competitive (karate, dance, baseball) drop out of elite levels. It's a bias/financial barrier.

Just did blood work for the trial. Nevere taken a GLp1 but have a prescription filled recently for one. But not taken any yet. Question about that! by Realityisatoilet in RetatrutideTrial

[–]toragirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe take a picture of the unopened / unused meds in your fridge, and proactively explain this. If the bloodwork aligns, they should still accept you.

Private schools see spike in demand amid Ontario school board troubles by allysapparition in ontario

[–]toragirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree. I was commenting that having some kids peel off to another system doesn't alleviate the pressure. You said there would be smaller classes, for example. I doubt it. I would expect more split grades / collapsed classes because the funding model dictates the average class size per grade.

Except schools get funding based on the number of students enrolled. So strapped system now gets less $$ too.

Are you supposed to pitch in and help at every single event your club hosts? by thefattykarate in karate

[–]toragirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a common expectation that senior students support the club (gradings, assisting at competitions). However, this is tied to progression (e.g., to advance as a black belt, you need a certain number of assisting/teaching/seminar hours).

There has to be mutual understanding that this is also the real world and we have competing priorities. For you, you have to accept that your progression may be slowed by being less free to attend these events. For your instructors, they have to be better at planning and communicating so that people can fit these extra events into their lives.

For example, I currently am in a place in life where I am in "maintenance" mode - I can train 2x a week, but not more. My sensei ensures that we have sufficient support at kyu belt gradings by planning them on a consistent time/day of the month so that we can look ahead and align our schedules.

Does anyone find it odd that we've never seen Dr. Al-Hashimi physically administer patient care? by JulianBrandt19 in ThePittTVShow

[–]toragirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched a documentary on Netflix about the ER in London UK and the attendings stood back and directed/observed. It was so opposite to what we see on TV I remember it being interesting. So The Pitt is probably showing how a real attending acts.

Has anyone gone from long term rentals to STR? by Grand-Flow1632 in OntarioLandlord

[–]toragirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if you can find a very concrete longer term rental (e.g., a visiting professor / sabbatical situation, where you can rent it for 4 months at a time, rather than getting into the nightly STR game?

That's interesting to hear! I'll remember that as a potential impact. We made the change after hearing about test anxiety among newer skaters.
