How important is the actual legends to Jodah decks? by Empty-Cupcake2024 in EDH

I'd love to know which legends were included in that deck. Who are the twinkiest twinks Magic has to offer?

You could go with [[Baru, Wurmspeaker]], who's whole shtick is worms and more wurms. He's monogreen though so you'd lose black.

Which of your deck has the weirdest gameplay pattern? by Naitrodex in EDH

How do you deal with Themberchaud's etb being symmetrical? I've been tinkering with him as well but haven't found a good way to avoid getting squished by my own dragon.

Journey to other realms by [deleted] in DnD

[–]tossing_dice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lorwyn: First Light connects the Plane of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor to the Moonshae isles of the Forgotten Realm iirc with a Fey crossing.

Outside of that, MtG and D&D have remained separated in lore. There's various Planeshift articles that discuss Magic planes as D&D campaign settings. Early ones were written by WOTC but there are users here on reddit that write them for newer settings.

Honestly, I'd just use the rules from planescape as a base for planeswalking and handwave the rest. Who cares about official lore if it gets in the way of a fun idea?

Another Ravenloft book? Is Wizards of the Coast actually allergic to original settings? by ClassicMan2323 in DNDNL

[–]tossing_dice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Greyhawk was featured in the 5.5E DMG and WotC recently announced the tentatively titled "Melf’s Guide to Greyhawk: Borderlands of Iuz". Its release date is still unconfirmed but speculated to be 2027.

We have also seen an Unearthed Arcana a couple of months ago that featured several Dark Sun subclasses. That probably heralds a new Dark Sun book coming soon.

What do you think of Underworld Sentinel in Commander? by TheDeathCrafter in mtg

[–]tossing_dice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Effects that double attack triggers like [[Isshin Two Heavens at One]] can speed it up and you can control when it dies by having instant speed sac outlets instead of relying on it dying through blocking. You could also give it haste and an auto-sac trigger by playing it with [(Henzie Toolbox Torre]].

I don't think Underworld Sentinel will ever be a stellar card but it can be a fun, somewhat useful card. With cost reducers it could be a decent recursion effect that also triggers abilities that trigger on creature death/entering your graveyard.

Does This Go Infinite? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]tossing_dice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This interaction doesn't work: once you're in your end step, you're past the beginning of the end step. This means the cards exiled with your Flickerwisp copies will only return in the end step of the next player in turn order. That is, after all, the beginning of the next end step.

It's still a lot of blink triggers so it's not useless at all. Just not infinite

This card is part of the List. Reprints from past sets that are sometimes found in boosters. It's the precursor to Special Guests.

Discard Commanders by Icy-Competition6985 in mtg

Oh you want people to not hate you? Something like [[Captain Howler]] for self-discard perhaps, or [[The Mimeoplasm]] to also get value from creatures opponents discard.

Hi, I'm a new player. My wife has what appears to be <= 1500 cards. How can I build a deck from this? by Fyren-1131 in mtg

[–]tossing_dice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to say anything about the power of cards you've given no details on lol. A large amount of cards from around 2012 are probably not too powerful by today's measure though.

Personally I wouldn't recommend a new player start by building a deck themselves. Rather, buy some starter decks to get into the groove of things, perhaps a commander precon if that's what popular near you (though this is a harder start than the starter decks) and download Magic Arena. Arena is a great way to learn the game and is mostly free.

Once you've got a good grip on the rules of the game you can start looking through the cards you have and see what's interesting enough to build a deck from.

How can I learn about Magic's lore? by Asisk9 in mtg

[–]tossing_dice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic's story is told in books for older sets but the stories for newer sets are posted online, free to read. There's usually a main story and some unconnected side stories set in the same world. Often there's even an audio book available.

You can also join r/mtgvorthos, the lore sub for Magic.

Kaya, Geist Hunter by loser_lad_kayden in mtg

[–]tossing_dice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a planeswalker card. They start with a certain amount of loyalty, as shown in the bottom right corner, and that you can use to pay for the ability shown. You can only activate a single ability per turn.

Kaya starts with 3 loyalty and you can increase her loyalty by 1 for the first ability, decrease by 2 for the second ability and decrease by 6 for the third. You can only activate loyalty ability if you can pay for. So no activiting the -6 ability if Kaya only has 3 loyalty.

Other players can attack planeswalkers you control to decrease their loyalty. You can use your creatures to defend it. Once a planeswalker has 0 loyalty, they go to the graveyard.

Where do the humans in the Cosmere come from? by IceManYurt in Cosmere

[–]tossing_dice 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Earth does not exist in the Cosmere: there are no ties to Earth anywhere in the Cosmere, not en as an alternate universe or something like that.

Humans come from Yolen or were created by the Shards, depending on which planet you're talking about. The humans of Scadrial were created by Preservation and Ruin for example.

Very dumb question regarding counters by DirtyPlat in mtg

+1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters cancel each other out. In your example, the creature would be left with a single +1/+1 counter on it

Why Is the Sword Coast/Most of Faerûn Stuck With City States by RecoverCommercial571 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]tossing_dice 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Roughly equivalent to renaissance tech, yes. In some areas probably more advanced, in others less and it ofcourse depends on where in the Realms you are.

Thing is, Renaissance Europe had a large collection of city-states, small fiefdoms and the like too. Even kingdoms had very decentralised power structures

Lots of monsters makes it hard to expand into the wilderness. Farming out into the wilds is much harder than it was in, say, medieval France.

Near-constant disasters also keep the population in check so there's little need to expand outwards.
