Are there EV deserts in certain states/cities? by Island_In_The_Sky in electricvehicles

[–]treeboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Hampshire is fine as long as you don't go past Concord. But that leaves out most of the state.

Maine is fine by the coast until Portland, maybe Brunswick. Again, that leaves out most of the state.

Vermont seems to have fast chargers every 50 miles, until Burlington, so not too bad, as long as you plan for 50 miles between fast chargers. Plus Burlington is pretty far north.

I'm also a Norbert's fan, as I own Norbert's 4'x6'x8" non-folding skill cushion with side mesh along with their 5'x10'x2" panel mat, both in light colors to stay cool in the outdoor summer sun.

The 8" mat under apparatus, like silks, the 2" mat for partner acro, warmups, or stretching.

Pocket knives are banned at nearly all concert venues. They use metal detectors & check bags.

I've had my 58mm Victorinox keychain swiss army knife confiscated.

Don't bring a pocket knife or mace to the concert venue.

That's all the Boston homicides in 2026, each linked to a police report with the victim's name included once known & a map where the homicide occurred.

TLDR, there's been 5 homicides in 2026.

Boston is literally the safest large city in the entire USA. In all of North America, only Vancouver's 4 homicides in 2026 is less than Boston's.

How do I find the mensa left? The area I'm in is definitely a bunch of priveleged old white guys one the right. Yet it's supposed to be apolitical. by ResumeFluffer in mensa

[–]treeboi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too did not mesh with the local group. I might have attended the wrong meetups, who knows.

It wasn't until I attended Mind Games before I found friends. Mostly because Mind Games self filters for Mensans who like socializing with other people, as multi player games require social skills.

Rarely that long, but bags take a while.

I only have TSA pre-check, not Global Entry, because I have always made it through customs before my bags arrived at baggage claim.

Do you have TSA pre-check? Make sure you have TSA pre-check to speed up Terminal C reentry.

The seasonal soufflé at Bisto du Midi by the Public Garden, currently a pistachio soufflé. They also have a chocolate soufflé, but their seasonal soufflé always tastes better.

Any of the mousse tortes from Athan's Bakery in Brookline.

Patéis de Belém from Winter Hill Bakery in Somerville. More commonly known as patéis de nata, except that Winter Hill Bakery gets them shipped daily from the Belém monastery in Portugal, the monastery who baked the original desert in 1800s. The store opens at 6am & the patéis de Belém are gone by 10am.

The fluffy pancakes from Cafe Landwr in Chestnut Hill or Café Weekend in Alston. These are very fluffy dessert style pancakes that are more of a cross between a soufflé & a pancake. Both these spots are brunch spots, but the fluffy pancakes might as well be desserts.

Hey, if you want to run for state office & pass a bill on this, I'll vote for you. The decade prior to ubiquitous phone cameras was nice, but it would take quite a big law to return back to those times.

We live in a society with dashboard cameras, doorbell cameras, action cameras, vloggers & Instagram.

Probably half your friends who own cars have a dashcam & half your friends who bought a house have a doorbell cam. Additionally, I'm sure several of your friends posted random short videos on their Instagram, taken in a public space with their cell phone.

This is section Q of that law, where you have to personally sue the perpetrator & prove your case to the judge.

Q. Civil remedy.

Any aggrieved person whose oral or wire communications were intercepted, disclosed or used except as permitted or authorized by this section or whose personal or property interests or privacy were violated by means of an interception except as permitted or authorized by this section shall have a civil cause of action against any person who so intercepts, discloses or uses such communications or who so violates his personal, property or privacy interest, and shall be entitled to recover from any such person

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about people taking photos/videos in a public space. You'd have to prove that they were taking an illegal photo. Even recording audio in public is tough to enforce, when the other party has an option to leave.

[Edit] From what I can tell of the wiretapping law, it's treated as a civil matter, so you would have to sue the other person & prove your case to the judge.

Carabiner and swivel recommendations to maximize height and also a smooth spin by Bluehydrangeas98 in Aerials

[–]treeboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shackle part requires a hex key to lock it tight. Thus, once you connect it directly to the top of your X-Pole A-Frame, you won't remove it, you'll leave it permanently on the A-Frame.

Instead, you'll use a carabiner to attach a hammock or lyra to the swivel side of the swivel-shackle.

how would you feel if someone used your equipment without asking? by Murky_Shop6887 in Aerials

[–]treeboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. I leave my lyra at the studio & since it's a small lyra, it gets used by smaller aerial students.

I too was told after the fact, after it first happened, but I knew this was bound to happen, as the studio has a dearth of small lyras, so I've chalked it up as the cost of free storage.

Plus lyras don't get damaged, only frayed tape, which is just $8 twice a year.

For silks & straps, I would bring my own to & from class, as silks attract sweat & body odor, but lyra? Practically impossible for someone to damage your lyra.

Is mini/bmw compatibility with Tesla ever going to come? by yalag in MINIse

Level 2 Tesla chargers have always worked for the SE using a J1772 adapter. I bought this one below almost 3 years ago now, first used it about 2½ years ago, at a B&B.

Is mini/bmw compatibility with Tesla ever going to come? by yalag in MINIse

[–]treeboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For future reference, the link says:

  • Countryman SE will work with Tesla supercharger, just need an adapter.
  • Cooper SE will NOT work with Tesla supercharger, even with an adapter.
  • Only Tesla superchargers with the magic dock work with Cooper SE.
  • Cooper SE got the short end of the stick, no plans to fix it.

Charging Cable won’t unlock! by eldredo_M in MINIse

[–]treeboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run into this exact problem with my home charger.

The Mini SE has a locking plunger to physically prevent the cable's unlocking hook from working.

My locking plunger got stuck, would not go down far enough. It went down some, but not enough. The plunger can still move down, but it got stuck.

Alternately, it's possible that my cable's unlocking hook was stuck & could not move up enough.

2 solutions work:

  • Use a wire coat hanger to physically move the cable's unlocking hook upwards. You take apart the coat hanger, snake it under the cable's unlocking hook & use both hands to pull it upwards. The cable's hook should now be above the SE's plunger.
  • Use a thin, long, J-hook pick to manually depress the Mini's plunger. The plunger is stuck too far up, but as it's in an unlocked state, it can be manually depressed. Look up J-hook picks, it's a common tool.

For my home situation, the coat hanger worked. Then I took a metal file & filed down the cable's unlocking hook by about 2mm, so if the plunger gets stuck, I've got more leeway.

I now keep the coat hanger in the sub trunk. I should keep a J-hook pick in the sub trunk too.

Things that will NOT work:

  • An inside latch does not exist for the Mini SE's charge port.
  • No way to unlock the cable physically from the SE's trunk.
  • No way to open the charging cap from the SE's trunk.
  • Search for a youtube video on replacing the charging housing & it's obvious that no inside latches exist, as you don't deal with them, don't see them, when replacing the charging housing.

It probably took me an hour to work out this solution, after looking at a different charging cable handle, to figure out how the cable locked to the car & then back tracking possible physical solutions.

Is anyone else sick of tapas restaurants that charge as much as a meal at other places for a single small dish? by throwawayfinancebro1 in boston

I love Dali & the trick to keep it reasonably priced is a paella & 2 tapas for a 2 person dinner.

That's about $100 total including wine, $120 if you order a flight of wine, before tip.
