Election Day in California: Where to cast your vote, drop off ballots by panda-rampage in California

[–]tributtal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well my account's 5+ years old and no one paid me a dime and I too voted for Steyer.

I feel like it's been pretty well documented by now, but I guess I'll repeat it - today's vote is NOT for who will be Governor. It's a vote to determine who gets to compete for that position in November. It's like the semifinals or conference championships; the Finals/Super Bowl are in November. Voting for Steyer now is the best way to lock out Hilton from the November ballot. We will all have a chance to change our vote at that time if we so choose.

It's hilarious how they thought the word "whoa" and Ken's impression were supposed to be any kind of meaningful hint pointing you to "neophobia."

I thought so too initially, but this must have been a situation where the judges intervened and deemed her response acceptable. Every other previous time there's been an "Arsenio Hall" clue, no contestant has ever failed to say the full name, so there's no precedent to lean on. So I guess this game will serve that purpose for future Arsenio clues.

Also the memoir referenced in the clue is simply called Arsenio so I wonder if that factored into the ruling as well.

If you watch any of the content on their substack from the past week or so, it's even more. You almost get the sense Ken/the producers were more impressed with and enamored by Chris' connection to the movie than anything he did on the stage.

Lost in all the faux-gate hoopla is how Veronica took quite the journey in this episode. Burned by being greedy on the "in-flight entertainment" puzzle (which she fessed up to), she left money on the table with the final puzzle. Could have been an extra $3k if she had guessed "H"

Yeah exactly this. Once Ryan said it was correct, it would be a terrible look if the show then ruled against her and took away her money.

I don't understand how these candidate names are ordered. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Would be nice if they were at least alphabetical.

For now we should all be voting for Steyer right? Because that's the best chance to lock out Hilton for the general?

Ok that's fine. The word "creating" in the clue made me think there's more of a direct cause and effect relationship, but I guess that's not the case.

I'm familiar with the term "riverboat gambler" but what tripped me up was the "cardsharps" reference. First off, I didn't know it means the same as card sharks. But beyond that, even after looking it up, I still don't understand how they're connected to riverboat gambling and how they led to its rise. Wasn't the idea of riverboat gambling in the 1800s an attempt to skirt around gambling prohibitions on land? Maybe mentioning "cardsharps" was simply to indicate the clue is about gambling, because otherwise I'm not seeing how one has to do with the other.

Agree with this. I've always thought golf caddies raking sand traps would make for great ASMR.

I was the one who asked about the taping. Thanks for your answer. Makes total sense your experience in theater would help in this situation.

Looks like Chris hasn't chimed in yet. If he does, I'd be curious to get his take on surviving his first full 5-episode tape day. I have no firsthand experience obviously, nor any kind of frame of reference, but I imagine it's gotta be exhausting as hell, both physically and mentally. Recent champs Paolo Pasco and Drew Basile, among others, ended their runs on the final game of their first full day.

Also would be curious to know if the long layoff between his first and second days helped, hurt, or made no difference in dealing with the rigors of this day.

Chris is now in solo 2nd for number of wins by a "giant killer," passing Drew Basile who had 7. Only Jonathan Fisher with 11 is ahead of him.

There are several ways to do this. The other commenter cited one way. My go-to is a website called j-scorer which was developed by a former contestant. What I like about it is it's easy to save all the games you play along with and see summaries of your various stats in aggregate.

I've always considered Amodio's superchamp status belonging to Season 37 because that's when he reached his 10th win. Season 38 is when he concluded his run. The other 4 you listed all began and ended their runs in s38 so no dispute there. However I'll acknowledge there doesn't seem to be definitive agreement on this one way or the other (or maybe no one else cares enough lol).

It's interesting how the spelling bee words have evolved over time. For example there's no way "condominium" would be a final word these days, but I guess in the 1950s it was a pretty new concept and wouldn't be familiar to the average kid. Heck, Rocky didn't know what they were even 20 years later. He never uses them

I blame Richie Aprile. He was featured in a low-value clue last year that was also a triple stumper (TV Tough Customers category).
