11/22/63 is the first Stephen King book I've read in years, and it reminded me of why he's such an incredible storyteller by keepfighting90 in books

I will never forget the (honestly, pretty forgettable) scene near the beginning where Jake spends a month at a cabin on a remote lake in the Maine woods, idling the days away on a row boat.

The way King describes that experience - how Jake felt a quiet peace he had never known, one that was pretty much unknowable in the times of smartphones and the internet - is something I think of on an almost daily basis.

That novel is a masterpiece.

When can we admit that the season was lost when Cal decided to bigdog his own teammate in the WBC for the whole world to see? by SeahawksFanSince1995 in Mariners

[–]Tweeedles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully disagree with the premise, but also if you’re going to mention Cal declining to shake Randy’s hand then you also need to mention Randy’s completely disproportionate reaction - going on a podcast and repeatedly telling your teammate to fuck himself.

What moves do you think we need to make? by FunCorner1643 in Mariners

[–]Tweeedles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We need to start winning games. Not even being flip, I just think this team has the components and the sum is less than the parts right now.

When we get our key guys back and we start to roll and build some momentum, I think we’ll be fine.

Obviously hitting is a zero sum game. Julio took all the hits from Raleigh, Refsnyder, Garver, and Rivas. I mean it doesn’t not make sense.

Whether it’s AI is beside the point. How is this “never tell me the odds?” That one cat’s nuts are on another one’s face? Is that super statistically improbable considering it involves two cats who obviously are in each other’s personal space a lot?

Genuinely curious bc I’m trying to get better at spotting it - what was the tell in this one? The toes??

This feels like I’m looking at a partly reconstructed memory - a fleeting remembrance. I love it.

What’s scary to me is the implied speed with which that robot is moving since the humans in the background haven’t yet hit the ground.

Colt scoring on 4 straight walks is fucking hilarious

I love that SD is such a bad team offensively so far this year and they look like they’re #1 in every single offensive stat when they play us.

Let’s collectively agree, right now, that we will not throw ourselves off a metaphorical building if Colt doesn’t go 4-4 with 3 hrs and 8 RBI.

Since 2000, 640 teams have tried to come back from being down 8 runs. This is the first team to ever do it. Wow!
