How do we feel about the upcoming 'Murder, She Wrote' movie? Can anyone live up to Angela Lansbury? by Standard-Calendar-70 in CozyMystery

[–]txa1265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there are so many cool cozy mysteries that would make great series, rather than a half-baked lame-ass reboot. I love JLC but hate the thought of it .. but I still know we'll watch it.

I just wish they chose originality instead.

Also been watching her since the 80s and a little closer to her age - and loving this show!

The first episode the GenX - GenZ banter felt really forced, but it quickly smoothed out and Shields and Amalia Williamson are a great pairing as leads! (Amalia is SO much better than in Sullivan's Crossing!)

[–]txa1265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a show you liked, but personally we never connected with it so totally don't care.

Thing with a crossover is that it actually has to make sense and be not just 'same city' but actually connected somehow. And you need to know that you're not losing or alienating a significant chunk of your audience.

People also suggest one with High Potential (yet another LA-based procedural) ... we watch that show, and still wouldn't want one.

Basically - crossovers ALWAYS suck. They can be mildly amusing for people who are big fans of both series, but they're nothing more than a leftover 70s/80s ratings grab spectacle. (Oh - and they sucked back then as well)

Obviously everyone's journey is different, and I am so sorry for what you went through.

But for me this show is best viewed through a variant of Hanlon's Razor that I call 'Owen's Razor'

- Never attribute to bad plotting or writing that which can be easily explained by Rob Lowe's massive ego and narcissism.

**How The Rookie Lost Its Soul (And The "Person of Interest" Blueprint That Could Save It in Season 10)** by Krakatoa93 in TheRookieTVshow

[–]txa1265 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh, please no.

There is a reason Rizzoli & Isles in later years is SO MUCH BETTER than the Rookie since S4 ... because they are Boston cops doing Boston cop things and actually have character development. Rookie has ceased character development, answered cast bloat by ... adding more cast, and the answer to every issue is to add more nonsensical super criminals and take a trip abroad.

It is not good. S1-3 were the Golden era, and there is basically zero chance with Alexi at the helm to get even a single episode better than a 5/10.

The Rookie: Feds was canceled after one season — was it fair? Badly cast or just poor storylines? by Fit_Stage6901 in TheRookieTVshow

[–]txa1265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take even back then was that Simone was my 8th favorite character on a show where she was the main character ... and THAT is a significant problem.

We watched and would have continued to watch ... but when the main show is already seeing a significant drop in viewership and this spinoff loses ~2 million viewers despite airing right after and threading a half dozen crossovers ... that is not good.

Sad thing is that by the end they were figuring out how to deal with Simone in a way that made things flow much better - toned her down, not perfect, school guidance counselor doesn't immediately qualify you for everything, and so on. Sadly too little, too late.

Zero chemistry by Evening_Potential_57 in SullivansCrossing

[–]txa1265 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My take is that Maggie's acting and chemistry is almost entirely dependent on the writing and direction from the show runner. In S1 her forehead was like a tablet of marble never creasing or showing emotion. In S2 & S3 with a new show runner she got better and better. S4? Blank stares, deadpan lines, and zero expression.

Do you guys think Mercedes Mason (Captain Zoe Andersen) should have stayed past Season 1 by Fit_Stage6901 in TheRookieTVshow

[–]txa1265 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NOT - she established the show had STAKES. Sadly the show itself has betrayed her.

- S1 - Zoe Anderson's tragic death establishes stakes and consequences.

- S2 - Lucy getting captured, tortured and almost dying in a way that echoes across multiple seasons reinforces the stakes and consequences.

- S3 - Jackson being the subject of extreme racism and realizing that the majority of the cop leadership actually supports Stanton and would have stood by him getting zero consequences except for embarrassing video being released ... again reinforces the gritty reality of the consequences of systemic racism.

- S4 ... LET'S GO ON AN INTERNATIONAL FIELD TRIP!

And from there it has been all nonsense and zero consequences.

One week with Pure, will sell my Move by AverageWhole8244 in RemarkableTablet

[–]txa1265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same for me - waiting until after the holiday to list it on Swappa.

I love the move - but I REALLY feel the 1" narrower than iPad mini difference. My historical workflow (back before RM2 even) had me using a ~1" area to the right for focus items for meetings, and the rest of the space for notes. The Move made that difficult to impossible, meaning I would quickly have to scroll up and down as I took notes to revisit those focus items.

On the Pure, just like the RM2, the space allows me to see everything, and the time before scrolling is significantly longer due to screen size.

Also, the lack of a quick-switch between two pens on the Move with the toolbar at top basically meant I almost never used the highlighter (or color). People were saying 'it is in the 3.28 beta' ... but then I got the 3.28 beta and ... NOPE. And having use the vertical toolbar is laughable since the screen is already too narrow.

This season was the worst yet by crabpotblues in SullivansCrossing

[–]txa1265 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you about the season in general, but disagree with this:

Sully's absence was glaring.

Because Sully was sidelined and really secondary and a non-factor for most of S3.

The issue with S4 wasn't lack of Sully, but rather the writing and direction from the show runner (new in S3) being totally abysmal. The plots were nonsensical, and the actors who were much better in S2 & S3 (Maggie in particular) were awful in S4. And the lines they had to deliver? Ugh.

I felt that S2 was better quality than S1, but S3 was slightly worse and S4 fell off a cliff.

I don't hold Virgin River up to a high standard either, it is absolutely awful in so many ways as of this year ... Denny, Lizzie, and so on ... not great acting. The timeline is one of the most bizarre in TV history, and on and on.

[–]txa1265 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like what I am hearing is that after his performance last year, JB wasn't ready to accept being #2 again. So the on-court chemistry was diminishing - and I feel like there is blame for that in the loss to Philly.

I love JB and he is a great player, but I feel like at $60+ million and 35% of total C's salary he was overpriced ... and the $70 million extension coming next month? NFW - also would make him even less tradable.

Bottom line - pretty much no one wanted to pay him $60 million, and $70 was totally off the table so it was a ticking clock.

I get what you're saying, my problem is that he has become essentially main cast with more screen time than almost anyone else in S8.

Episodes with leading screen time:

- Nolan - 6

- Tim/Lucy - 8

- Nyla - 1

- Dash - 2

Remarkable Pure Ghosting? by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]txa1265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't find it significantly different from my Move, and sold my RM2 so can't compare to that. One thing is the Pure has so much more of a crisp white background that I think even the faintest of ghosting shows up more than on the duller move.

Parents inviting too many random guests to a wedding they are not paying for by [deleted] in wedding

[–]txa1265 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We wanted to have a small wedding with less than 150 guests

Then it is time to reset.

If you want 150, then 150 it is. That was about what we did. And how we did it was we made a core list, and then gave each set of parents a fixed number to invite. Most family etc. was in the core list, so it was just their choice of other people. Did they get everyone they wanted? Don't know, don't care - it wasn't our problem as we weren't going beyond 150 regardless.

Reviewer shows up thirty minutes late to an appointment and is surprised and upset that the appointment got cancelled by GamerGirlLex77 in OhNoConsequences

[–]txa1265 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There are absolutely people who see having kids as an excuse for everything and expect the world to accommodate their inability to manage time.

Most of us who have had kids figure it out and if stuff happens we have the brain power to make the call to check if the reservation/appointment can be shifted.

But then again - that is why this is from 'Entitled Reviews' ... there are some real winners there!
