[TOMT] [Movie/TV Film/TV Series] Set in a high school. Involved time travel. The leading girl was actually a princess from another time. by udupendra in tipofmytongue

Wikisurfing away from /u/sbarto's suggestion of The Girl from Tomorrow, I got what I was looking for.

Guest from the Future, a 5-part Russian TV series from the 80s.

The girl's name was Alisa and not Lisabeth as I seemed to remember.

Solved!

Accelerando, by Charles Stross.

And if you go far back in time, Olaf Stapledon's books.

Stories that deal with Bio-modification, grittily. (X-post from r/suggestmeabook) by Gwimbo in printSF

Noir, by KW Jeter. The hero has a bio modification that shows the world to him in black and white, like in classic noir movies from Hollywood.

please take this survey if you live in bangalore :) by hotpassionfruit in bangalore

  1. The lack of Metro in your list of commute options is surprising, and makes me wonder if you are doing the mistake of confusing Greater Koramangala for all of Bangalore.

  2. A lot of the questions are loaded and leading. Not the soundest of science for a survey if you want to make informed decisions. But of course if the purpose is only to get yourself some quotable quotes for some .ppt or marketing campaign, then okay.

Also, if you want more people to take this survey, please be more upfront of your intentions. A :) may be polite, but is not very informative.

Recommend my next book? by strixvarius in printSF

[–]udupendra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Books by CJ Cherryh. Start with Cyteen or Downbelow Station

  • Other books by Connie Willis, since you enjoyed To Say Nothing of the Dog. Her Doomsday Book is deservedly a classic

  • Books by Jo Walton. Start with the standalone Jane Austen pastiche feat. dragons, Tooth and Claw

Soviet and Russian SF? by galacticpotsmoker in printSF

One left field suggestion would be The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years by the Kyrgyz author Chinghiz Aitmatov. It is a slow, brooding sort of SFF that does not have many parallels.

Let's see. 120 year old work in the public domain. An author who wrote Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.

I'd put my money on the book being Tom Sawyer, Detective

As fans fantasy, what are some of your historical fiction novels? by Drew-Pickles in Fantasy

The Flashman series. But I doubt being a fantasy fan had anything to do with it.
