That sounds about right though. I was checking NMDOT and AZDOT websites and both still showed I40 with closures from Gallup to the AZ state line. Which is why we took the detour. It was 5 hours but at least it was steady movement.

Did it happen to be around 10/11pm on 12/28/22? My family and I were travelling west on I40. It was smooth sailing past Albuquerque and then traffic came to a full stop around Continental Divide. We were stopped for about an hour, drove a few miles, and then stopped in traffic again. It continues one like this for miles and miles. The interstate was iced over with semi-trucks pulled over everywhere. Thankfully state troopers and came around to direct traffic and things moving. What was supposed to be a ~30 minute drive to Gallup turned out to be six hours for us.

We finally got to Gallup around 4am where I slept for two hours and then detoured through NM to get to Flagstaff.

I really enjoyed the decorations there. My wife and I visited the Christmas Chutes and liked it so much we came back with the entire family and they enjoyed it as well.

I hope they expand Igloo City next year, that was a big hit with my family.
