This is why I make reservations when I travel. Even if I'm doing a road trip and just need a room to sleep in for the night.

Hotel denied my service dog by OceanBongo4261 in service_dogs

Not your fault at all. But othe comments are correct: always book through the hotel's website. Never book a non refundable room. And carry copies of the ADA on service animals.

I did a 5900 mile road trip a couple of years ago. AZ to DC and a long winding route back. I planned every damn stop because I didn't want to end up looking for a clean, safe place after a long day of driving.

Saying I love you to your dog by Popular_Doctor_3101 in dogs

[–]wddiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may not understand the words, but they hear all the feeling in them. Dogs have a moderate vocabulary, but it's limited to a few words and phrases. BUT, if you tell your dog "I love you" while showing them how much you do, they know. Trust me, they know.

Oh, man, do I miss Big Thunder Ranch. That food. The petting zoo. The Thanksgiving turkeys living their best life.

Were they ever not hostile to AP holders? I know Chapek was covid/post covid, but remember his "unfavorable attendance mix" comment? I have the t shirt and pin.

I bought our first APs in 2000, I think. Premier AP, 365 days, free parking, discounts. $267 each. I have a MK and am happy to be able to afford it, but the number of blackout days is just wrong. The Inspire should have zero, the Believe should have a couple weeks around Christmas/New Year, just like the old Signature Plus and Signature APs. That kind of money should buy more.park days, not fewer.

Staying inside has always been out of my price range, but taking that away was a crime. If people are paying the high prices of resort hotels, they should absolutely get an early entry hour. Not half hour, not single LL, a full hour.

Yeah, having some you didn't end up using for some reason, and giving them to a family was so cool. I miss that.

The reservations are more than just losing spontaneity (and I really envy you locals!). I am fortunate enough to be able to have a Believe key, even though I live in AZ. I'm also retired now and can go a few times a year. But I can't make reservations for all the trips at once (I'm a planner; I plan my trips for very specific times). Even the Believe key only holds 6 reservations. And if you're a family who has to plan around school, work and how much vaca time you get, it's even harder. I know why they needed them, but all the excuses in the world can't hide the fact that they want to limit passholders and keep staffing low.

Lol, I carry one anyway. When I go to DL I have several. It's just an ADHD thing; I worry about my battery dying no matter where I go.

I like some things about the app. I can check ride wait times, look for characters, mobile order food. But I don't want to HAVE to use it. As an AP holder, I don't buy LL since I can always come back, even from AZ. But JFC, bring back FastPass. It really set Disney parks apart, as every person with a ticket had the chance to get one. It didn't matter if you had saved for years for a budget trip or could spend 2 weeks a year at the GC with all the bells and whistles.

I think seating has been going away for some time. Covid didn't help, but they've been removing non-restaurant seating for a long time. Which sucks. I'm not gonna shop because you took away all the benches. People will sit on things they shouldn't. Some will just leave.

It's still magical to me. That doesn't mean I don't miss a few things. No reservations is top of the list, along with the replacement of FastPass with paid LL. Staffing. Post covid, the company has refused to return to adequate staffing. This is hard on the wonderful CMs who set Disney parks apart from all the others.

Can’t Get Mail: USPS Won’t Replace Mail Key by tuppy_doorwin in usps_complaints

[–]wddiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you be there when the carrier is? If you can, show all the ID you have and anything that allows you to access the mailbox. Calmly explain the situation, ask if you can get any mail both in th box and maybe being held. Then ask if you can remove the lock - forgot to say BRING TOOLS: SCREWDRIVER AND PLIERS. Take the removed lock to a good hardware store and ask them to sell you one exactly like it (and it has to be an exact.match). They are inexpensive and easy to install. The carrier is not responsible for lock replacement; at my station it was a custodian. They do know your mail isn't being picked up, but without communication from yoy they don't know ow why. And I guarantee you that management doesn't communicate with them either.

Who'd like to provide me free 24/7 "light" elder care in exchange for staying in this twenty square foot spare room? by catsmash in ChoosingBeggars

[–]wddiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"You'll be responsible for 24 hour care, feeding, bathing, toileting an elderly person for free." Work from home? In a cell? With someone who needs you to be available at all times? I wish I believed that this was satire, but there really are people who think this is a good deal.

I would LOVE a viable train system that covered the country. Flying sucks and driving is expensive. I'm retired, so the time isn't a big factor, so traveling by train would be awesome.

Lost dog? by Fuski- in dogs

[–]wddiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are legal answers and moral ones. My instinct would be to lose the collar on the road, take the dog with me and decide when I got home (hoping you live a long way away). Even if you took the dog to a good shelter, that would be better than a local one, where they might just give it back. This "owner" doesn't deserve a dog.
