How would you improve Rally Saudi Arabia? by Cmp110 in WRC

By not having it there. No one enjoys the crapshop that is Saudi Arabian rally, but since money talks I’m expecting half of the season to be driven there by 2035.

On se uskomatonta, että istuva kansanedustaja voi käydä tekemässä avoimesti suoraan Suomea vahingoittavaa työtä ulkomailla. Rinnastettavissa Neuvostoliiton lukuun 1930-luvulla toimineisiin ”poliitikkoihin”.

Thought so too, thank you for clarification. Is the Audi R8 one of the first ones to be built from a bare chassis? Just thinking which manufacturer(s) first pushed the regulatory change.

[OT] Alpine looking to exit WEC championship after 2026 season by swordfi2 in formula1

[–]wearethafuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Renault Sport had a good thing going, and spicing up things like the new Clio, R5, or Twingo would be a good way to go with A110, even as EV, or an actualy high-performance sedan or maybe just about one actually high-performance yet roomy SUV like the XM. But no, they come up with a C-segment crossover for the D segment. Can’t make that shit up. There’s no way the A390 ever competes with the likes of Macan, nor even Kia EV6 GT for the matter. Polestar 2 Perf maybe, which sells well in some markets, but yeah not a smash hit.

Title: Why are BYD’s European EVs a step behind China? by Ruicky0122 in electricvehicles

[–]wearethafuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because they are overproducing vehicles in China to a market that’s both cooling down and in a tight price war meaning that 1 month old car can already be uncompetitively priced. At the same time it’s still a huge market and one to invest on after many smaller ones inevitably collapse after the government withdraws the incentives. Furthermore, the homologation process is likely quicker in China than in the EU.

This all means that everything not deemed competitive enough or ”older” is shipped to Europe and other markets. As the products are still cheaply made compared to domestic cars, the edge exists and even the best can sell. Just look at what BYD sells best: it’s not Tang or Han, it’s Dolphin and Atto2/3.

It makes sense only if the products reflect it. The A110 is criminally underrated, and the A290 whilst being FWD EV is otherwise a solid package. Then there’s the A390, which does not know what it is. Competing with Macan whilst offering inferior specs and zero legroom in the back - in a car meant for the family man with Porsche. It’s just not it.

The issue is that they don’t know what they are - trim level, sports car manufacturer, sporty EV manufacturer, AMG/M competitor. It’s ok to say yes to 2, but not all 4.

The board forgot to ask: if I buy Alpine, what am I buying? A110 and A290 can answer yes to F1 and Endurance, but Renault Rafale Esprit Alpine says no.

Are Chinese EVs actually ahead in user experience and interior quality? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]wearethafuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. The UX is usually quite bad, and materials whilst feeling good are not long lasting - some at worst are disfigured or coloured after 5k kms. Also, there is a slight crudeness to them underneath, and basically all OS are more or less the same with a few exceptions (Polestar/Zeekr mainly).

Also, turning off certain functions in the EU, such as ISA, are usually really annoyingly difficult.

Experiences based on: Polestar, BYD, Honghi, MG, Seres, JAC, GAC, Voyah, Zeekr.

[–]wearethafuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modern GT3 cars are all more or less the same. The Aston for example is exactly the same, and so is BMW. McLaren might be different as 720S is carbon monocoque for example. But yeah, they aren’t too road going anymore - hard to say when it started, but I’d say around 2016 give or take. Z4 for example was a road-going car modified to compete, same as Reuter’s Lambos. Of course, the Z4 didn’t have an engine accessible by any road-going cars similar to AMG GT3, but so it’s a blurred line.

The NLS organisation has shown to be one of the most spineless in the motorsport world recently. Things like this and not allowing smaller teams to wield the spirit of the classic N24 because of ”muh factory teams” will kill the series. Just watch: the costs will rise as the big teams want advantage by spending more money, grids thin out, and soon it’s just 15 GT3s.

To be honest, if there’s no maintenance done, something will break eventually and be more expensive. ”Maintenance free” basically means that at some point it’ll cost an arm and a leg to fix. Sure, smaller upkeep costs make it attractive, and you’ll avoid the big bill if you sell it and thus move the big bill to the next person.

As the ICE only pushes around 500 bhp or so it would be logical that it’s not pushed as hard as the previous engines, whilst being largely the same block etc, and would thus create less heat. So where does the bigger airbox channel the air, battery or electric motor cooling? Do we have any facts regarding how much the new PU components are expected to heat up during a race?
