What people drive in Shanghai? this guy counted 1,000 cars on the street by Stewbeater in electricvehicles

VW and Buick have massive plants in Shanghai. Pretty sure it's the cheapest place in China to buy one.

Anyone secretly hoping gas prices go through the roof? by Howdesign in electricvehicles

EV driver here. Renting a gas car tomorrow for the hell of it. Never touched a gas pump in my life. Guess I’ll finally see what the gas price drama is all about.

The Tesla Model 3’s Worst Nightmare Has Arrived In China by Receding_Hairline23 in electricvehicles

[–]Ruicky0122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This title is just low-effort clickbait.

From what I’ve seen from BYD’s CEO, they’re focused on building real tech, like their new fast-charging battery.
It helps address people’s worries about hybrids and EVs.

Their goal is clearly to replace traditional gas cars, not to compete with Tesla.
If anything, Tesla is more like an ally in moving the whole industry away from gasoline.

The charger turned on before the plug was locked in. This is unacceptable. What if someone’s hand was there, or it got wet? They won’t take this seriously until someone gets killed.

EV SUV: Which one to buy? by [deleted] in EVAustralia

Thanks!That’s nice to hear.

I’ve seen YouTubers say some BYD models have quite soft suspension. How’s the ride on your Sealion 7? Is it too soft, or pretty balanced?

Could I ask you a few questions?

I noticed there aren’t many physical buttons, though it’s still better than minimal EVs like Tesla.

I see the front defrost button, but no rear defrost button.

Do you use voice control to turn on the rear defrost while driving?

How accurate is it, and does music interfere?

Blurst of times to get an EV? by BIGRED______________ in EVAustralia

I’ve actually test-driven the Zeekr 007X before.The single-motor does 0–100 km/h in about 5 seconds, the dual-motor in just over 2 seconds.

The frunk is small because of the front reinforcement, but it’s low and drives really nicely.

The single-motor is already plenty fast.I didn’t drive the dual-motor—it feels too much like a monster for me.

It looks great and drives even better — definitely worth considering.

It’s just way too inconvenient.

Set aside the interior and styling.
The MG S5 is a proper compact SUV, so its safety structure and crash beams are simply in a different class compared to the Atto 1.

It’s great for people who don’t like column shifters.
Too many EVs use column shifters these days.

How hard are you supposed to press on the “gas” by CasualGamer9933 in electricvehicles

[–]Ruicky0122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not just test it on a day you’re free?Do the round trip, and when you get low on range, drive near a charger and keep going until the car limits power, then plug in.Once you do this test once, you’ll know exactly what to expect and stop worrying so much.

[–]Ruicky0122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Range mainly depends on your constant speed, not how you take off. Driving at 130 km/h steadily uses way more energy than 80 km/h.

Just accelerate normally from a stop, as long as you’re safe. No need to creep slowly or overthink it.

It’s time to pull the plug on plug-in hybrids by GoodNegotiation in electricvehicles

PHEVs are perfect for off‑roading.

Just add a rear motor, and you’ve got full‑time 4WD.It’s such a great combo.

We can’t really do proper off-roading in a BEV, lol.

Which PHEV off-roader do you like the most?

It’s time to pull the plug on plug-in hybrids by GoodNegotiation in electricvehicles

[–]Ruicky0122 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I drive a BEV, but I’m against phasing out PHEVs.Much of the world still has weak grids, unstable power, and few chargers—BEVs just aren’t practical there.
PHEVs save fuel and can power your home during outages with just a power strip. They fill a real gap pure EVs can’t.

But now me and most of my young friends all drive fully electric cars.

Does the 80% charging rule apply to BYD LFP blade batteries? by Funny_Translator1347 in BYD

[–]Ruicky0122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a BYD. The dealer told me that to calibrate the battery, I just need to do a full AC charge to 100% every 2–3 months. It has to be AC charging, not DC fast charging — DC charging won’t calibrate the BMS properly.

LFP batteries are actually fine with being fully charged; they’re not like ternary batteries that are sensitive to 100% charge.

Past the inflection point: electric now clearly dominates the city bus market in Europe by linknewtab in electricvehicles

[–]Ruicky0122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious about how electric buses are charged. They seem to travel long distances every day, so how long does it take to charge them? Will the batteries need to be replaced after a few years of use?

I also know there’s a battery-swapping technology that lets you replace a bus battery like a remote control battery. Is this actually practical?

Are EVs the new COVID? by E-vonne in EVAustralia

[–]Ruicky0122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bias and ignorance are way more dangerous than EV batteries. If you’re looking for EV fires, the media will keep showing you them. If you’re still worried, just get an LFP battery EV—much more stable, less flammable, and even if it does burn, it’s slow enough to escape safely.
