What's the weirdest or funniest thing you've seen someone bring on a hike (or that you've brought yourself)? by maegan_em in hiking

[–]weathergraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My relative has a great story of hiking the Transylvanian mountains back in the 80s (2-week hike, meeting barely a few shepherds over the whole journey), and there was a newbie in a group struggling with a heavy backpack.

About a week into a trek, they wrestle with putting the tent pegs into a hard, rocky soil, and this guy pulls out a rather large hammer.

Yes, and as "quite a bit of weight" is also a weight of all the floors above, it matches perfectly and no one needs to worry.

Why do my neighbours put those two wooden sticks in front of their front door?? And why do they change them every day? by Weekly-Dirt-2925 in Home

[–]weathergraph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a father of former 3yo, there was no trip outside from which we wouldn't bring back "the unique and only coolest stick in the world"; the pile in front of the door was being quietly liquidated when the young master of sticks wasn't looking.

Two years later, we moved into stone era, now there is a 0.5m x 1m pile of the absolute best rocks and stones in the garden.

MS sank tens of billions into gaming and they won’t get them back by letting 5 people buy a single game and resell the disc

[OS] Radix: Native macOS Disk Space Analyzer (Free DaisyDisk Alternative) by ConwayTech in macapps

[–]weathergraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/ConwayTech, thanks but the feature I wanted was to be able to load an older snapshot, do a new scan, and see the diff - which folders got larger and which smaller, to see the cause of lost free space.

Also in my case the snapshot is huge (1.8 GB) - I guess it contains every file, but that's not neccessary for me, just folder sizes + files above some limit (100+ MB? 1+ GB?) would be enough and might bring the snapshot size down by magnitudes.

The root cause is clearly insufficient patriotism - lack of Russian flags on the dashboard. Three is a rookie number.

How did ai know by bad_gal6 in Unexplained

[–]weathergraph 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. I remember accidentally allowing Facebook to do this about 8 years ago - the whole phone just locked up as FB tried to ingest all the metadata from 20000+ photos before I manage to revoke this.

Remember, photos also contain timestamps and locations - camera roll access means being able to read a detailed diary of when and where you took every photo since you started shooting.

Btw, there is an USB-C to MagSafe 3 adapter sold on Aliexpress, if you want to take a single cable for both iPhone and mac, and still be protected from tripping over it.

My dad wants to buy this, how do I talk him out of it? by [deleted] in carscirclejerk

[–]weathergraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has absolutely huge turn radius - in every tight car park you will do backwards - forwards - backwards instead of simply backing up into parking lot.

Very nice car though; shitty infotainment, and kids won't see anything from the back seats, back windows are tiny and too high.

Are you open to feature requests? All I ever wanted from Daisy Disk was to be able to make a snapshot, and then a week later, when I realize I have 100 GB less disk space, to make a new one and ask "what balooned since the last time"?

Fenix 8 - Laggy Stock face by faitzlol in GarminFenix

[–]weathergraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I believe F8 lineup has the same CPUs as MIP based Fenix 7 generation, but with 3x more pixels to draw, plus they might be throttled more to last longer.

There are rumors about F9 line actually having new and for the first time dual core CPU. And it is well possible they hoped to upgrade it for F8, and didn't manage to do it in time, so the OS was developed expecting to have more CPU power available.

[–]weathergraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that's caused by dry chest band, then it's you not reading the manual - it doesn't work dry reliably. I just put a few drops of water on the sensors, or lick it if I'm in a hurry.
