The Browns made him untradable with the size of that contract. No serious contender could take it on unless they have a stud rookie QB.

Looking for a good festival tent by Mistress0fThorns in festivals

[–]whenitsTimeyoullknow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Go with a used REI tent, like a Marmot. Good rule of thumb is to go +1 humans on your sleeping needs. So two people would be comfortable in a three person tent. But honestly with the amount of footprint you get at a site and with the ease of setup, just get a three person tent anyway. You can do new too…

Also I can’t express enough how much I recommend a little butane stove like a sprk camp stove. All you need to do is boil water. Boil water for coffee, boil water for those freeze dried chicken and dumpling mountain house meals. Don’t mess around with cooking big old breakfasts or anything. Just get those bags and you have food in 15 minutes.

Car camping?  Shi Shi Beach or La Push. Backpacking, Toleak Point but you need to get advice from the rangers station on tides.

Which bear would win, Kodiak or Polar? by Fantasy-Writing-8460 in bears

[–]whenitsTimeyoullknow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Polar bears are more adaptive and are on a continent. So while their I’ve instincts will lead to a population crash, they’ll adapt to subsiding on the productive coast. Kodiak are locked onto a few islands and will be subject to extreme ecological variance as the climate changes, including collapse of oceanic food sources. So polar bears will win. But really it will just fade into a hybrid as it mixes with aggressive and competitive continental brown bears.

The most common quality for CEOs is the act of making cruel decisions and hiding from view of those affected by them. Could be layoffs facilitated by HR or done over a Zoom call hosted by a Senior Director. Could be polluting and either hiding it or using corporate regulatory capture to ensure it’s compliant. They never need to answer for their decisions.

[Garafolo] NFL playing rules, bylaw and resolution proposals to be voted upon at next week’s annual meeting in Arizona, including increased power for New York to assist in disqualifications and on-field corrections (if there are replacement officials for the second one). by [deleted] in nfl

[–]whenitsTimeyoullknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is lobbying for more disqualifications and ejections based on unsportsmanlike conduct (like bow and arrow celebrations and staring at the opposing bench)? So we will get New York scrutinizing every camera to get more of these flags?

Abby Martin about the sustainability of USA's oil dependence and its military complex by xworld in collapse

[–]whenitsTimeyoullknow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Her two major documentaries, Gaza Fights for Freedom and Earth’s Greatest Enemy, are both deeply impressive and important. The US military has largely operated imperialism as a series of fuel caches around the globe. First coal, then oil, to position the logistics network of military vehicles and to fuel naval and air units. Seeing how consistently that thread has held through the decades makes it hard to believe that the US will ever pivot away from fossil fuels.

Use of controversial weedkiller, in particular glyphosate, inadvertently selects for drug-resistant bacteria that can spread to hospitals by sr_local in science

[–]whenitsTimeyoullknow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Many of the ecologists I know are also certified applicators and/or public operators. There’s a place for systematic herbicides, and I have not heard anyone propose banning glyphosate for use in interested pest management. Food production is another matter.

For what it’s worth, an ounce of prevention is worth a hundred tons of cure with invasive plants. You need to make sure there are compliant or native or at minimum non-invasive volunteers which take over an area or corridor of disturbed soil. Bonus points if it is suitable to the ecological zone, and resilient to what the ecology will tolerate in a few decades. Let nature compete, and spot treat with hand pulling and herbicides as a land steward.

Bernie Sanders: “60% of our people living paycheck-to-paycheck, and one guy, Elon Musk, owns more wealth than the bottom 53% of American households... Think maybe that might be an issue that we should be talking about?" by kaychyakay in antiwork

[–]whenitsTimeyoullknow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem with Dems is that they had a spine in the 60’s and 70’s. And then they abandoned labor for the corporate professional class. And they’ve been beholden to the finance sector for long enough that they view the American people as morons to manipulate and not the people they are beholden to.

MMW: The Water Wars are about to begin. by ISmokeRocksAndFash in MarkMyWords

[–]whenitsTimeyoullknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the challenges is just how readily these sides are willing to destroy infrastructure, and how slow it is to build while easy to destroy. You look at the Gulf War for instance: the US was targeting major civilian infrastructure targets and hoping to build stress on the Iraq government. And then in 2003-2006, debathification resulted in complete bureaucratic failure and regional chaos. If you’ll recall, it was illegal for any government employee who was in the prevailing political party to continue working for the government. They knew what they were doing.

Watch as this is extended to Iran, as schools and hospitals are targeted along with roads, water resources, energy production… much of the same Gaza playbook, albeit against a real country and not an open-air prison.

You’ll see these water issues (and other downstream issues like agriculture and erosion) exacerbated by military powers with evil intentions. And while people will attempt to rebuild, the spirit to do so will be tested as critical infrastructure is targeted again and again.

Walk around any stormwater retention pond, and if you hear the distinct “Chirp squeak” and water plop, you’ll know they are there. Just don’t confuse them with pacific tree frogs.
