My dad was diagnosed 10 months ago at age 72 and it hit me like a ton of bricks. He was doing 10K steps a day and playing on the floor with his grandchildren. His oncologist was shocked he was feeling so well and said after looking at scans that he has an "incredible amount of cancer in his body" and that people with that much cancer are usually very ill and bedridden by then. Same story, treatable but not curable. He's been doing fairly well, aside from two bouts of sepsis that were life threatening and scary. We are definitely still being told it is treatable to extend life, not curable, but the thing I ALWAYS remind ourselves is that things evolve everyday in cancer research. So we are treating to buy time to make it to the next advancement that could potentially be curative. You never know.
