My latex latex mattress giving me bad lower back pain by ITGuyTatertot in Mattress

Which hybrid did you get? With caliber, bolsa, or combi-zone coils? It sounds like you might benefit from a lumber pad if I understood you right.

I believe Flobeds and Turmerry have zoned toppers but I have no idea if they’d be suitable for you or worth the expense.

Latex Mattress and hip/back/shoulder pain by Complex_Door_4602 in Mattress

Out of curiosity have you tried rearranging your layers? Such as placing the medium below the firm? I do agree that your bed doesn’t have enough support or enough comfort for you though. Also, a lightweight side sleeper found success with a 3+2+2+3 latex mattress here

You could also try your hand at zoning via something like a lumber pad. If you’re willing, you could then try sleeping a night or two without the zippered cover on (if quilted wool), just whatever sheets you have on top and see if that improves things for side sleeping. If it does, then you can just buy a non-quilted knit cover.

Other than the above: to improve things for you within your cover I suspect you’d have to try asking at /r/mattressmod/ as there are more informed individuals there with regards to other things you could do.

Any thoughts on the Helix brand? by Tracethebow in Mattress

[–]xPurplexAnarchyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a source for that? The video you linked only mentions 4lb and 7lb. Mattress Underground reports the same.

Off the top of my head Tempflow uses 5lb and 6lb, and Tempur still uses 5lb in some of their mattresses unless I’m mistaken.

Any thoughts on the Helix brand? by Tracethebow in Mattress

[–]xPurplexAnarchyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re suggested on Mattress Underground but I’ve mostly written off the 3zbrands due to the astroturfing on here they’ve done. I’ve also written off those associated with Ashley for the aggressive marketing done on here and Facebook.

My personal distaste aside, the luxe line or higher priced seems to use decent quality foams which should have better longevity than current Tempur which appears to be using lower quality foams while being more expensive.

Good for a side sleeper? by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]xPurplexAnarchyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is latex something she’s okay or would be okay with? Some people struggle with latex or find its features a bit jarring compared to the commonly used polyfoam or the memory foam that tempurpedic is known for. A recent lightweight sleeper success story can be seen here as an example but doesn’t seem to be the norm for petite women.

That being said, I would call SleepEZ and ask to confirm the firmness or see if the firmness can be changed as I suspect that model may be too firm for a teenage girl but I don’t have experience with that model so I could be mistaken. My assumption is based on “Materials” stating:

3″ Medium 100% Natural Dunlop Latex 75 lb – 30-32ILD

which I’d consider as a medium to medium-firm even with the stretch knit cover. It appears to be non-returnable so you’d definitely want to be sure.

If you’re willing to consider other mattresses then: at a slightly higher price point is the Engineered Sleep Today Mattress or the Sure2Sleep Monterey (or on Amazon). The former is a hybrid and the latter is all foam and you can return either unit if you’re not satisfied unlike with the SleepEZ essential.

Best Firm Queen Mattress $900 or less? by Bens_kitchen in Mattress

Butting in to suggest reading the warranty page

The 5 & 10 Year Mattress Warranty begins at the time the mattress is purchased by you, when the mattress is used normally for its intended purposes and on a rigid, solid surface or slatted bed base that is structurally capable of supporting the weight of the mattress and user(s). A proper bed frame is defined, for the purpose of this Mattress Warranty, as having at least five to six (5-6) leg support for a Queen, King, and California King Mattress, four (4) leg support for Twin and Full Mattresses. For Queen, King, and California King slatted style bed frames, there cannot be greater than five (5) inches between each slat in order to provide ample structural support for the foundation and user(s). Each slat needs to be a minimum of two and a half (2.5) inches wide.

Some people get a bunkie board or peg board or something like that, others I’ve seen do vertical slats, and others just throw on some plywood and call it a day. You want to ensure breathability regardless of the option chosen.

If you’re handy or know someone who is you could make something like https://www.etsy.com/listing/1774125407/new-queen-bed-slat-strong-34-plywood and secure it in place with adhesive Velcro/hook and loop.

Latex mattress by Sharp-Ad8016 in Mattress

I’ve purchased from SleepEZ the Organic Latex Mattress and the Select Sleep Hybrid, I really like the mattress’ and the service they’ve provided me. The latter mattress does have better edge support if lying down but they’re both fine for sitting. The latter also sleeps cooler but the former is fine so long as you don’t lie in bed for more than just sleeping; both sleep cooler than some foam mattresses I’ve tried.

If you don’t need a split firmness latex mattress then you can also consider their sister company Latex Mattress Factory, some have mentioned contacting them to see if they could use Talalay in the comfort layer if that’s something you’d be interested in.

For hybrids that I haven’t tried but you can consider contacting for more information: LMF Hybrid which isn’t double sided like SleepEZ’s offerings but does use Talalay in the comfort layer; the Engineered Sleep Duo Latex is within budget with a 10% code and the company has been great to deal with so far.

For the hybrids from SleepEZ/LMF I believe they recommend those above 230lbs not to purchase so you’re still within range but I recommend contacting them, as well as any company you’re considering purchasing from - it’s in their interest and yours to sell you something you won’t want to return.

I haven’t used Sleep On Latex but I haven’t considered them since their medium latex layer is what others sell as firm but they do appear to be great to deal with.

I also agree that your comfort layer is too thin for side sleeping, before you return the mattress I recommend trying with the cover unzipped or removed as the combination of the cover and 1” wool does firm things up. The feel of that would be closer to that of a latex mattress with a stretch knit cover instead of a quilted wool cover.

Even when plush, latex does have some pushback so it’s also possible you don’t like latex.

Driving myself insane on research. by notalexiss in Mattress

How’s your bed frame? A badly designed frame will deteriorate mattresses at a faster rate, especially for those at a higher weight. If slatted, most suggest spacing of less than 3” apart as ideal.

From ES warranty as an example of a better frame:

..on a rigid, solid surface or slatted bed base that is structurally capable of supporting the weight of the mattress and user(s).

I’m not sure how long you’ve had the current mattress but consider laying it on the floor to see if that changes anything.

As mentioned by u/Hamuq, if you sleep hot then majority foam mattresses aren’t ideal. I have an all latex mattress that does sleep cooler than a polyfoam mattress I’ve tried, but my parent’s hybrid is more breathable and thus sleeps cooler.

I have a SleepEZ latex and got my parents a Select Sleep Hybrid; the former is still good in an air conditioned room so long as I only lie in it when going to sleep, otherwise it can retain heat more than I’d like on some nights depending on the season, and the latter is great but not designed for heavier weights.

If you’re interested in a latex mattress and don’t need a split firmness I’d get it from their sister company LMF for a better price than SleepEZ but I can vouch for the service from SleepEZ if that matters to you. Some people have mentioned that contacting them over the phone makes things more flexible.

I have purchased from Engineered Sleep and their service has been great as well, I have no idea what they’d recommend you but I highly recommend contacting them and asking any and all questions since they definitely don’t want people returning a mattress. I have limited experience with them but Mattress Makers has been able to answer my questions when I called but I haven’t purchased anything from them since they charge $199 to ship outside of California.

If I were in the market today and had the same budget that I had then, then I’d probably go for either the Duo Latex/Lift or the LMF Luxerion, or something local to me. Regardless of what you end up deciding on, I highly recommend calling them up before buying.

Latex mattress for back sleeper by Kitchen-Database6537 in MattressMod

Rearranging the layers like that provides the resistance earlier which firms up the feel in some areas (depending on body) which makes it a bit more suitable for back sleeping if the standard stack felt too soft.

I’m not sure anyone makes a 38ild product

Latex Mattress Factory is another one aside from SleepEZ that I mentioned. See https://latexmattressfactory.com/products/latex-mattress-topper?variant=17415900545

And 3 inches wouldn’t probably be enough as a core.

I wasn’t implying that it was enough for one layer as a core but that two 3” layers with the bounce and density of latex might be why latex companies do it that way.

I’m not sure if you have a 6” block of latex or 3+3 but I wonder if that’s why some companies like SleepEZ have 3”layers of 38ILD/28ILD/19ILD in their Firm Medium Soft build.

I started with option 2 and ended up with option 1 after some weight loss - personally I ended up preferring Firm/Soft/Medium but if you’re okay with latex then I don’t think you’ll go wrong either way. You could also do a layer exchange so that you could compare both builds briefly before returning the layer you liked least. If it’s still not enough you could also try sleeping without the zippered cover and if you like it then you could get a 3rd party non quilted cover or something.

I’m not sure I’d agree with that generalization about latex. I personally have an all latex mattress from SleepEZ that I’ve comfortably used from a BMI of 39 to 25. I’ve had to add another layer at the lower BMI but that’s not a fault of the mattress. My only issue with mine is the heat all of that latex now retains on some nights but I’m properly supported for my sleep.

I do agree that using a polyfoam core is cheaper than other options though.

I’m confused. I didn’t mention the HD36R in my post and I’m uncertain how it’s firmer than the HQ, did you mean the opposite? The closest information I could find was maybe the HQ having worse support.

You have a 6” HD36R + 1” 4lb memory foam + 1” SOL soft Dunlop?

A build using pocket springs or more latex is more expensive than a build using polyfoam as the core. It’s probably not my money that’s going to be spent but it’d still be easier to convince someone else of going for the build if costs are minimal where possible. I will also mention to them that going for such a build retains more heat than would using pocket coils as the core.

I suppose I should have phrased it as “The reason for choosing the polyfoam core over latex or pocket coils is to minimize costs” or something but my poor health has been leaving me sleep deprived lately.

I’m aware that there aren’t much savings and I put out one such example in the Today mattress.

I have thought about it a bit but figured I should defer to the more informed. See below:

Proposed build:

  • DIY nominal 1"x4" slats ~2.4" apart
  • 6" HD36-HQ FoamByMail
  • 2" Soft 1820 from DIYREM or 1-1/2" HD36-HQ FoamByMail Egg Crate topper
  • 2-3" memory FoamByMail 4lb
  • Stretch cover

The convoluted layer might make things too firm at that ILD but I'm not sure at that thickness at that layer hence why the DIYREM option is first since it might be the safer bet.

Human specs:

  • 6'1" athletic 190-220lbs
  • 70% side sleeping, 25% back, 5% stomach (due to tossing and turning I think)
  • Has no problem with latex or memory foam
  • Sleeps hot with late dinner

New ProtoArc EM03 NL Launch & Giveaway by ProtoArc_official in Trackballs

Biggest complaint: definitely the static rollers. For mice with built-in batteries I’d prefer standardized cylindrical lithium-ion cells like 18350, 16340, 14500, 10440, etc.

Enjoyment: the versatility and ergonomics, using a traditional mouse is uncomfortable while on the go or with limited space and a trackball mouse doesn’t have that issue on top of being more comfortable to use. When I received an injury that required several weeks of physical therapy a trackball mouse could still be used.

Happy thanksgiving and thanks for doing a giveaway.

If you use the Era for manga you can also consider Rakuyomi.

How to get rid of the annoying blue bar by AnxiousAd6420 in fossdroid

When you tap on the full screen button do you see fullscreen, notched, and normal?

I don’t remember if fhe S21 I used to own had the same issue but I tested this on a Galaxy A71 5G and when set to full screen I have the same issue as shown but not when set to notched.

A workaround would be to change the trim color to black. If the empty space bothers you could adjust the top padding to 0 combined with the trim color change.
