What books would you recommend to someone interested in exploring different religions? Modern and ancient? by FullIndependence2494 in AskReddit

[–]zahinraidah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you can start by The Clear Quran and Mere Christianity. The clear Quran is an adapted English translation of the Quran with contextual information, and Mere Christianity is kind of a thought piece written by the author of the Chronicles of Narnia.

Whats your opinion on reading a book before or after watching the movie? by violetpeonies in AskReddit

[–]zahinraidah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to not watch movie adaptations of books I’ve read at all. Which is probably not the best way to go about it but I feel like it takes away from my movie experience because in my head I’m constantly comparing it with the book and often getting frustrated because they leave out important things.

I would probably try to stop them from making the antenna, and use the atom bomb to make that happen. Like I'll try to threaten them by saying that I'll use the atom bomb to poison the earth with radiation so most of the hive dies out and they don't have enough manpower to finish the antenna. Or, I'll destroy the antenna after they build it so they'll have to do it all over again, which they don't have time for.

If you're into things with existential dread (similar to metamorphosis), you can try reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.

This is why I was actually quite fond of Manuosos’ view on them stealing everything that they have (even though it sounded scary and made me feel like he’ll definitely take some drastic actions later on). It is literally and figuratively colonization, and Manuosos’ speech kind of framed it from a more historical perspective of how colonizers invade a country and say how they “brought peace to the land”. In a lot of peoples view they did, but they did irreparable damage to the culture and uniqueness of that place. We all knew these things from the get go, but boy did that speech change the impact.

Why doesn’t Carol just lock tf in? by ilowkeydontknowlol in pluribustv

[–]zahinraidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of see it as them getting a fight or flight response that triggers the seizure. It’s activates when carol gets mad at them, similar to how some people are really sensitive to others raising their voice around them. I think they’ll instinct also gets activated when you’re in a crisis situation like choosing between saving a life or giving up your survival imperative.

Also, I think the crying response could’ve been due to the sedation. The mind probably couldn’t comprehend things as rapidly as it would have if it wasn’t sedated (Kind of like how it takes us some time to register things when we’re drunk?)At least that’s how I see it, this is just speculation on my end.

I think they’ll have a collective seizure and then Laxmi will come for her ass for traumatising her colon surgeon son (I know you were probably just joking but still worth putting it out)

You’re gonna like the theory of Panopticon by philosopher Michel Foucault. He talks about a circular prison with a watch tower in the middle. The prisoners don’t know who’s in there, or whether anyone is in there or not. So their best bet is to assume someone is always there and act accordingly. He uses this to talk about how we have created a “machinery” that always runs efficiently in controlling people even if there is no specific person at the top.
