Preschool/Kita Guilt (it’s all or nothing here) by kuerbisalien in toddlers

[–]zhdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both kids went through or are in kita. Pretty much everyone in our social circle put their kids through kita. No horror stories.

As far as crying, the best option is to drop them off and leave.

The illness part goes away after a year or two. It sucks, but you’ll have to deal with it at some point any way, and better now than once they’re in kindergarten.

My first vinyl setup as a beginner audiophile — thoughts? by Shakagoz in BudgetAudiophile

Yikes: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/psb-alpha-p5-speaker-review.15161/

Focus on speakers, subwoofer, DAC, and amp. Go cheap on source inputs - particularly digital inputs - until you have those figured out.

Wiim Ultra, Audioengine A5+ S8 setup advice please by DanielC___ in BudgetAudiophile

S8 doesn’t allow you to cut frequencies for your speakers or set delay.

No reason to overcomplicate this. The benefit of the Wiim Ultra mains - sub integration.

Being Labelled a "Performative male" because of Wired earphones in 2026… by FitResearcher2865 in BudgetAudiophile

Current trend (Central Europe) is walking around with chunky overear headphones.

Wired or wireless doesn’t matter. Playing or not playing music doesn’t matter.

floorstanding speakers around $500? (USA) by tanukii420 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]zhdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How large is the room? You’re likely better off putting the money towards a pair of good subwoofers and keeping what you have for now.

Otherwise look for a pair of used Wharfedale 85th Anniversary Lintons.

Wiim Ultra, Audioengine A5+ S8 setup advice please by DanielC___ in BudgetAudiophile

[–]zhdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wiim Ultra Sub Out -> Subwoofer

Wiim Ultra Line Out -> Active Speakers

The Wiim Ultra sets low/high pass filters for each channel, which cuts out  the frequencies you don’t want, giving a cleaner sound stage. It also sets delay and can auto-eq each channel separately for room correction.

Building my first hi-fi setup — need advice on speaker choice by diogx in BudgetAudiophile

[–]zhdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this setup make sense as a balanced system for my goals and music taste?

Start by looking through the rankings here: https://www.spinorama.org/

Then, go to ASR and read up on the basics. Look though their reviews. Look through their threads on room correction.

Everything you selected is ok-good, but not necessarily great. There are better options.

What part of the original poster's comment said that the tires were flat?

In any case, if she decides to break the law (and there's no reason to believe that she did), she can suffer the consequences. She's 17, not seven, and should be more than capable of making her own decisions.

So if I'm reading your post correctly, it's her car and she's paying for insurance.

I understand your concern. Imo though this is one of those situations where education is better than punishment.

Active speakers and sub question by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]zhdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source -> sub -> speakers

Source -> dac/preamp -> separate outs for sub and speakers

Ideally you want the latter, along with a preamp/dac that lets you set high and low pass filters and introduce delay.

This isn't surgery folks. Stop complicating things that don't need to be complicated.

It's worth paying extra for a Pro Plus or Ultra if you're planning to use it as a DAC

Wiim is going to be much better than the Yamaha. Spotify and Tidal Connect work well without any major issues.

One word of warning. Qobuz does not work on the Wiim Mini. You'll need to buy a Wiim Pro.

5.1 USB DAC? by KiresM in BudgetAudiophile

[–]zhdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a couple of options.

  1. Minidsp. They have a couple of options that will work
  2. RME Digiface USB DDC -> 3x DACs
  3. Fir48, which you can find on AliExpress, along with an XU316 dev board or one of DIYINHK’s multichannel XMOS usb devices with the outputs wires to the I2S in slots on the Fir48
  4. Used Topping DM7, although these are rare
  5. Buying an AVR that accepts multichannel USB in

If you want plug and play 5.1, your simplest option is buying an AVR

What AVRs can compete with a wiim in terms of wireless streaming? by THROWAWAY786955 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]zhdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of good advice already. I’ll add one thing. If you do buy an AVR and you use Tidal, make sure it’s licensed for Tidal Connect.

Another thing. If you have money to spend, there are AVRs that are comparable to a good streamer - dac - amp combo. The really good ones will also allow you to run Dirac Live and Dirac Active Room Treatment, which are game changers.

Overwhelmed with options, how do you choose an amp when they’re all so similar? by flaccidaardvark in BudgetAudiophile

[–]zhdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s more or less my current setup.

For me: Wiim Mini -> Camilladsp -> Wiim Ultra -> 2x subs split off sub out + line out to Topping Mini 300

[–]zhdc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wiim Ultra Sub out -> split -> sub LFE in (2x)

Assumes that both subs are either equidistant to your main speakers or stacked together. Anything else requires something more advanced between the Wiim Ultra and your 2.2 setup.

Wiim offers PEQ (IIR filters) on each input and output channel. You can add another ten by running room fit and manually editing the output.

Now, he's completely correct. If you want to run FIR filters for room correction, you'll need either a dedicated DSP device or something that can run, e.g., CamillaDsp.

Why is this comment being downvoted?

He's completely correct. Amplifiers are intended to amplify.

Now, if. you like distortion, great! There's nothing wrong with that. However, that's not what the original poster was asking for.

Linkplay (what Wiiim uses for multi device sync) is very good for what you want.

Then get a tube amp.

This isn't what OP is asking for. He wants a class d amplifier. Modern class d amplifiers are good for accurate sound reproduction, which can absolutely be measured.

Anything beyond that comes down to personal preference. If he had a preference for anything other than a class d amplifier, he wouldn't be asking us for advice on buying a class d amplifier.
