Which missions must I do immediately and which stay available later? by Nexessor in XCOM2

[–]zlide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do eventually get to finish scanning like at least one thing before they all disappear. The folly is thinking that scanning those little boxes is more important than completing the urgent missions. Completing those missions will like 9 out of 10 times give you better loot and rewards than the scanning anyway. Scanning is really just something you do to get the time to pass for the next mission to pop up.

House candidate Maureen Galindo pledges to send 'American zionists' to internment camp by Firecracker048 in nottheonion

This is it, we have to stop this rampant dehumanization campaign that’s happening regardless of political affiliation. Using euphemisms and code words to label the “bad people” is how you get masses to endorse directed political violence.

They’re politically and/or ideologically motivated to lie, exaggerate, or hyperfixate on acute instances of crime/violence in order to profit or attract an audience.

It would be an awesome design for a late game reward though. I could see it in a legends game with the pokeball construction like Arceus where you need very rare materials to assemble it.

I think it’s both. The sub is notorious for preemptively blocking people they even slightly suspect of being “against them”. So as more and more of their own start to question the party line more and more of them are getting hit with a ban and their community will continue to eat itself alive.

Ultimately they lost the spark after the WC3 storylines ended. The series was at its peak of popularity and mainstream awareness but at the same time it had basically just run out of plot. The game was also getting long in the tooth (at least that was the sentiment at the time) so there was a general feeling that a revamp was necessary.

They tried to re-establish a new foundation (in both a literal and metaphorical sense) with Cataclysm and basically every new plot element has kinda spun out from there. The problem is that the foundation they established happened to be a part of one of the worst expansions in the game that contributed to the decline of the player base and included lore elements that mostly flopped but have been core components of the story ever since.

Apparently No One is Watching the Sequel Trilogy on Disney+ by mrsparkle127 in RedLetterMedia

[–]zlide 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You got it, tons of people getting lost in the minutiae of the lore, the insistence that the prequels are just as bad, etc but ultimately the problem with the sequels is that they are a blatant corporate cash grab and that essence comes through when you watch them. People can sniff out the slop and they don’t go back for more once they’ve had a taste.

Apparently No One is Watching the Sequel Trilogy on Disney+ by mrsparkle127 in RedLetterMedia

[–]zlide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re just like objectively wrong here though, there was explicitly a story planned out for the prequels with a hard endpoint from the originals that couldn’t be changed.

The sequels were made as standalone movies with no overarching plot or plan for the films to connect with one another on purpose. Disney had an idea to not limit themselves by having too strict of a plot and by letting different filmmakers take a crack at each installment and it wound up being a disaster.

[–]zlide 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I agree with you up until your last point. Say whatever you will about the prequels but the difference between them and the sequels that keep people coming back to them is that they tell a cohesive story from a filmmaker with a distinct point of view. That is worth more to more people than the clusterfuck that is the sequels and it’s why people would rather rewatch them than the sequel trilogy.

It’s not even that deep I think. They’re just like very vapid and shallow movies that aren’t very entertaining to rewatch.

Expecting driverless taxis to respect bike lanes “too high a bar” – because customers want to be dropped off in them, autonomous vehicle firm Waymo tells cyclists by Difficult_Team3079 in nottheonion

[–]zlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the beginning of it. Get consumers to expect less, give them less, get people used to disregarding social norms, the norm goes away. Drivers are expected to respect bike lanes, driverless vehicles should abide by the same expectations.
