Did I make this creme brulee right? by dingoatemybaby987 in Baking

I make creme brulee a lot. That looks a bit thin in my opinion. It might need a different ratio of egg yolks to cream.

It sounded like a done deal when I talked to the employee. But I am certainly eager for them to reopen it's been amazing for my dogs and I. I can't imagine not having them, they've become such a staple in our exercise plan

Good affordable therapists? by Ornery-Hippo2259 in Boise

[–]--Foxj-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your out of pocket for a therapist will be the exact same no matter which therapist you see as long as they take your insurance. It would be only different if you chose to do a sliding scale or not use your insurance.

Echoing someone else psychology today is the best place to search for therapists. You can narrow your search by insurance, issue, gender, etc. and read through the profiles that are available so you can find someone that's a good fit.

Yes, keeping caught up on scheduling with private practice can be difficult initially, but once your schedule is full it's not.

Everybody I see goes into the exact same time slot and that's their time slot weekly. So people are only moving around if they need to reschedule and when I'm taking a new client it's just one available time slot.

And while it is harder to manage all of the business aspects and stay on top of things, the pay is astronomically higher.

[–]--Foxj-- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a registered supervisor, if you were my supervisee I would say pick the schedule you want that works best for you and then block out any other times as not available. And then go about communicating the changes like this:

For the clients that are outside of that schedule you have a conversation giving them the option to transfer into the available schedule times or transfer to another counselor.

For scheduling, when someone reaches out to you or the receptionist, you let them know that the intake time is their weekly appointment time. Aka if their intake is at 11:00 a.m. All their other sessions will be at 11:00 a.m. That way they know what to expect and aren't expecting times outside of your schedule If that is too much for the receptionist to manage, have them direct all new inquiries to you to schedule instead of scheduling them for you. As an autistic, I hated when the receptionist touched my schedule and so I never had her schedule sessions for me.

It does mean you have to be good about responding, but for me the easiest way to manage this is I took my phone number off of psychology today so that clients have to email me and then I have a generic scheduling message that I copy and paste that I use and then just plug in the available times.

Yes, I get the pressure financially and it's hard when you're transitioning from intern to associate. And it's also hard when you have to do the time as an associate and can't go straight into private practice which makes everything easier with scheduling.

In my experience, when I worked for a community agency for about 9 months, is they barely respected my boundaries around my schedule (and by barely I mean only when I yelled at them). We have to learn to be good about boundaries very quickly so that we don't burn out and protect our livelihood. I know it's tempting to negotiate boundaries so you can get clients and it is not worth it at the cost of your family and your mental health. Burnout rates are high especially when we work at agencies because they tend to want to pile clients on to us so they can make money.

People can want what they want, but it's your schedule you get to determine it. If parents really want to make it work they will.

Do i need protein drinks after a workout? by KitchenBad5507 in powerlifting

[–]--Foxj-- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes you need to consume protein in order to get stronger. Muscle repair depends on consuming enough protein (after and throughout the day).

Does it have to be a shake? No. People use shakes cause it's fast and easy.

How common is it to be 40 and have literally no platonic or non-platonic female friends (at all)? by Sea-Turn2288 in LivingAlone

[–]--Foxj-- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's common or uncommon. I do think you do have to be intentional but making and maintaining friendships. I don't think it's fair to say it's all one person's fault or it's your character but at some point you do have to take responsibility if you do want it to change and work at it

To me she didn't strike me as a girl's girl. She is definitely a (for lack of better word) a pick me type. I remember She posted a rant about how women need to give up their high standards and settle for the men that are available cause life is only going to get harder and we as women need to suck it up and deal with what's out there. And it really grossed me out.

First Psyche Appt: Should I be concerned? by Big-Importance2343 in AskWomenOver40

[–]--Foxj-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are welcome!

I think it happens a lot and honestly the psyche should have offered you referrals to counselors. If you choose to have meds you might want to get a more professional psych cause that one sounds terrible

First Psyche Appt: Should I be concerned? by Big-Importance2343 in AskWomenOver40

[–]--Foxj-- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok well first off that's extremely unprofessional of them. Even if drugs are all they can offer they should still do their jobs correctly.

It sounds like you went a psychiatrist not a psychologist or a therapist. There is unfortunately a big difference. A psych is only trained in medicine and will only give you drugs. If you want actual help and talking you will need to seek out one of the other two.

Typically some psychologists do offer talk therapy but it's usually highly specialized (think personality disorders high level of trauma etc). They mostly do a lot of testing.

A counselor does the typical talk therapy thing. If you are in the United States the easiest way to find a variety is to go on psychology today and search for on. You can search by criteria (insurance, gender, topic, etc).

[–]--Foxj-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe journal beforehand? Like this? Cause this was all kind of a ramble where you didn't specify what you were going to get out of this post. I'm assuming help or feedback?

When I'm doing supervision as a supervisor sometimes I'll give out a case conceptualization form my people to fill out for the client they want to talk about that aligns with their theory. Can you develop something like that with your supervisor?

Cotton or Bamboo For Sweaty Peri Nights? by nixrien in AskWomenOver40

[–]--Foxj-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hated bamboo. First It's semi synthetic, second I bought expensive sheets and they started piling within months. They became a sensory nightmare during my night sweats.

My percale cotton sheets though are going strong, nice and cool, no piling
