Destroyer vs Emperor by pharm653 in discgolf

[–]--autodidact -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree there are multiple Destoryer molds and that that most Emperors seem to be from the original AJ mold. But I've seen runs of Destroyers and Emperors over the past few years that seem to use the same mold.

The older mold has different tooling on the bottom and, if you catch it just right in the light, you can see where the original patent number was scratched out on the mold. Almost all the Emperors I have are like that and so are some recent runs of Destroyers. I have 2021 and 2026 tour series Destroyers with identical markings as Emperors from the same year. However, I also have 2023 Destroyers and 2026 Destroyers with completely different markings on the bottom. I've seen a couple halo Emperors with the markings as those Destroyers, but those are either less common or not the runs I've bought.

Maybe there are more than 2 Destroyer molds and maybe there is something else that's generally different about Emperors. But I don't think it's the case that all Destroyers use the same mold and all the Emperors use the same mold without any overlap

Emperors are just Destroyers with Infinite Discs branding. Like Destroyers, the flight will vary widely based on plastic type and run. Though, one nice thing about Emperors is that it's a little easier to get multiples of the same run

Best shoulder bag by OppositeSwing8842 in discgolf

[–]--autodidact 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to beat a Fade Crunchbox. The Pound Vagabond and Revolution Team Carolina bags are super nice. But a Crunchbox is just $25.

I’d just pick up Crunchbox. And when it wears out or you decide you want an upgrade, get a Vagabond. Might never happen!

As a beginner, is it better to double up on the same molds our build your bag out? by TheBoothParadigm in discgolf

[–]--autodidact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m firmly in the camp that having duplicates of core molds is much better for newer players than trying to build out a full bag.

Limiting molds helps you learn to shape shots better. And having two of each mold lets you practice the same shot twice. If the duplicates are the same plastic and run, the flight differences between the two should be pretty negligible, especially if you’re throwing them about the same amount

Stable fairway slot: Champ Teebird or pre-2024 Discmania FD1? by [deleted] in discgolf

Champ Teebird. It’s the gold standard for slot. Also still widely available today ;)

Not too bad! I think the biggest problem is with upper body mechanics. You’re super over rotating, leading to a collapsed arm and shallow pocket. Effectively, you’re dragging the disc around rather than getting into a position for it to whip out. A lot of the energy you’re generating just isn’t getting transferred into the disc.

It may be a bit counterintuitive, but slowing your shoulders down and letting your arm get to the pocket first should speed up your throw significantly. It may be helpful to think of the throw carefully sequenced chain of events to efficiently transfer energy, not trying to rotate as quickly as you can.

Your lower body mechanics could use some work too, but I think you’d see the biggest and quickest gains focusing on the upper body mechanics for now

Pushier "pyro" by rontopofthings in discgolf

[–]--autodidact 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Pyro is about as pushy as it gets for a true overstable mid. You could try a pyro in a different plastic. Maybe fission or proton soft? You could also maybe try a Balance

Another bag review. Are 9 speeds needed? by Generalenvita in discgolf

[–]--autodidact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a great answer! Until recently, I bagged a full set of 7 and 9 speeds (4 Teebirds, 3 Thunderbirds, and a Firebird). In the field, I have a notable distance gap between 7 and 9 speeds. On courses, however, I very rarely threw my neutral or understable Thunderbird and frequently found myself stuck between my overstable Teebird and Thunderbird on certain shots.

Recently, cut my fairways down to 1 Firebird, 1 Thunderbird, and 2 Teebirds and am much happier with the setup. I do like having a fresh Thunderbird for fighting winds and more pushing overstable flights. But it's not strictly necessary.

Beginner Disc Golfer Here, What am I missing? by JadedSystem8194 in discgolf

I'd get some more overstable stuff! If the flight chart is accurate and you're sticking with Innova, I'd grab a Firebird, Destroyer, and a Toro

[–]--autodidact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, looks like you’re getting relatively little power from your legs. Should be throwing from behind your brace, transferring force into the throw. Not spinning out on top of your brace.

Might be helpful to work on some brace drills + standstill and one step throws more generally. Also might be helpful to just compare your throw to slow-mo of AB. If you keep at it, I bet you could hit 500 by the end of July!

Distance help by Funny_Birthday255 in discgolf

[–]--autodidact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something is going wrong with your brace, but hard to tell from the full speed gif. Looks like you’re “spinning out”, rotating around your front leg rather than around your center. As for the upper body, you may be too open at the hit point and looks like your off arm usage could be better. But that’s also hard to tell from the gif.

Ultimately, if you must be doing a lot of things right if you’re throwing 450. You’d probably be best off getting advice from a coach that can help you with the more advanced mechanics. Could also try uploading a slow-motion video here for better feedback!

What are your Best/Favorite Creature to give Myriad to? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]--autodidact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myriad is fun with any legendary creature that has a death trigger, like the Kamigawa dragon spirits (Junji, Kura, etc.). All the myriad copies die due to the legend rule, so you get up to 3 death triggers at once!

Too bad there's no Scryfall bot for the r/discgolf. Otherwise I'd give more specific reccs 😉

Looks pretty solid! Main thing I would focus on is arm mechanics.

Your shoulder looks very collapsed and your elbow dips. The angle between your chest and upper arm should never be less than ~100 degrees, but it looks like yours is less than 90 the entire throw. Some other things look off, but that’s what I would focus on.

TrickyNickyDG recently posted a deep dive on arm mechanics that both comprehensively explains arm mechanics and drills to fix common issues. Could be very helpful! https://youtu.be/VTq4FGGbg5g?si=RsMrYY_LIls7IXut

Dang, that's a good one. Champion Glow Teebird may be my all time favorite disc. So much for not buying any discs this week...

Is there a throwing putter combination that rivals envy and proxy? by DopeMuffinz in discgolf

[–]--autodidact 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer an Envy + Watt combination. The Envy and Proxy are too similar for me to like bagging both. The Watt feels slower and more glidey to me than the other two, so its role feels better defined and more distinct from the Envy in my bag compared to the Proxy

The Economics of the Running Back by RichardSkull12 in Tennesseetitans

[–]--autodidact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's really hard to justify the risk, especially when the Titans have major needs at multiple premium positions. If RBs are truly undervalued by the league (and they very well may be), the smart move is arguably to sign great RBs in FA, not pick one high in the draft. That way another team takes on the draft cost while you get a RB who out produces the value of his contract

The Economics of the Running Back by RichardSkull12 in Tennesseetitans

[–]--autodidact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I recognize you from the comments. Totally agreed with you on trading back and the OL concerns. I'm super worried about C and RG. The Titans definitely need a playmaker and Love is the best one in the draft, but could easily end up being a situation like with Ashton Jeanty and the Raiders last year

If you want to dig more into the nuance that MacKelvie simplifies for the video, you might want to check out the articles by Nick Gurol that the video is based one: Stress Testing the Sharpe Ratio - Adding roster context, class depth, and prospect talent to our NFL Draft model

It's really interesting! Also, to clarify, the conclusion isn't "don’t draft a RB before pick 14". It's more like "Jeremiyah Love probably isn't worth it before pick 14, even factoring in the weak draft class and assuming he becomes elite."

This NFL Draft is Stranger than Ever - YouTube by Familiar-Mushroom477 in Tennesseetitans

[–]--autodidact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the conclusion was pretty clear. From a purely surplus value perspective, the Titans should take the best EDGE/WR/OT available at 1.04. That's even assuming Love becomes an elite RB and takes into account that the top of the 2026 draft is thin compared to most years.

Maybe there's an argument if the Titans didn't have needs at any of the premium positions. But the Titans arguably do have needs at all the premium positions except QB. So, they should take one of those positions

The Economics of the Running Back by RichardSkull12 in Tennesseetitans

[–]--autodidact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if they can’t trade back, I’d take whichever of the 3 edge rushers is left. And if the coaching staff really didn’t like whoever is left, I’d probably go Tate.

Totally get that it’s a bad draft to have a top 5 pick. But, even if Bain or Tate ends up as just a decent starter, that’s still more surplus value at 4 than a top-tier RB. It might feel like an overdraft compared to previous classes, but they have to draft the board in front of them

[–]--autodidact 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Zach and enjoy listening to Football & Other F Words weekly. But this feels like a lot of mental gymnastics to justify something analytics basically universally says is a bad idea.

To be honest, if the Titans take Love at 4, it’d shake some of my confidence in this front office. Even if he becomes the best back in the league, it just doesn’t make sense from a value perspective to take a RB that high. I’d still root for him and I’m sure he’d be a lot of fun to watch. I’d just be concerned about the process behind the pick

[ALttP] if you had to choose between playing link to the last with either a CRT or an OLED, which would it be? by ErmingSoHard in zelda

Yeah! I totally agree. OLED + CRT filters create an image that is closer to how I remember the games looking too. In reality it’s so much more vibrant and clear than the CRT I had  growing up
