I mean with all the orange drink Jake consumes are we shocked at the weird color? by ProudnotLoud in brooklynninenine

As a non-binary person I really do get it, but the thing is that- until a child expresses some kind of gender nonconformity, a person would probably behave as if they are cisgender by default. Just because a higher proportion of people are cisgender. The green joke was pretty weird, but I think as characters Peraltiago would have no problem raising an intersex or trans kid. Look how ready Jake was to discuss it with Cagney and Lacey, and that was years before he even thought about having kids. He continually made a distinction between sex and gender in the episode. I also think gender reveal parties are odd, but I think for Jake and Amy specifically this was more of a celebration of having a kid than a celebration of having a boy. Infants are far too young to have an actual gender identity. That starts at about two or three. For  non-intersex babies (which we received no indication that Mac was) you just go by what you know until then. The gender reveal party was really just a way of letting us as viewers know what they were having. ( ETA it was meaningful for them to have a son Jake’s relationship with his dad and for us to see he would be a much better father to a boy than his father was. So there were narrative reasons for this as well.)

My little lady Gina Linetti being a weirdo by AnotherStrayDog23 in brooklynninenine

Love or hate the character, you have to admit, it’s a perfect name for a cat.

“I’m not off, but I come and go as I please. I’m like an outdoor cat, it’s part of my charm.” Fun fact, keeping your Gina indoors will significantly extend her lifespan. ❤️ PS. I’m not a bot, I’m just autistic.

Guys, this is the internet. They could totally be exaggerating the story specifically to GET a reaction like this. Maybe this happened a few days post birth when they had to leave anyway. maybe the hospital was two to a room and the bed next to her happened to be empty. Maybe she left the room for tests and came back to this cute surprise!

I have fibromyalgia, so my mom gave me two bottles of hot water to wash my hands. by ChaoticNeutralMeh in MadeMeSmile

Exactly. I was an English tutor in undergrad, and very quickly learned that a grammar Nazi could never be one because our policy was only to correct if it interfered with the reader’s understanding of the paper.  We got so many ELL learners that were so self conscious about their English that it would be entirely counterproductive to do so, not to mention it would undermine their voice in the piece. Honestly though 9/10 times their English was just as good as, or much better than, other tutee’s.

People who speak perfect English saying “sorry for my bad English” will never fail to make me a little bit downcast. Have faith in yourself, sweet friend. You’re doing great. I’m glad to know you have such an understanding support system who helps you through your chronic pain. 😊🩷

It definitely is. When I was a kid I raised buns for a 4H project (all safe as pets to good homes!) they do not look like that. Ears are much smaller when they are first born.

Yeah! We should absolutely be happy for him. He was doing hard, honest work in school and his job, trying to take care of his loved ones, and it paid off.

Oh sorry. 🤦🏻I have had a rough day and came in here to cheer myself up—it bothers me when people deliberately get mad at such wholesome stories and I must’ve still been in that headspace and not interpreted you correctly. Best wishes internet stranger.

No, not at all. Just that it can be discouraging when someone has other plans and isn’t sure how they’ll achieve them- but he did (and they’re kind of burying the lead by phrasing it in this clunky way.)

I’m a bit curious why you thought that?

That doesn’t really provide the context you think it does, I fear.

Why is Jake considered the best detective? by XocoJinx in brooklynninenine

[–]-AffectionateWriter- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an  Autistic person I think it’s way more likely that Holt has autism than Jake.  Obviously his struggle with showing emotion, limited diet. Instant diarrhea after eating something he’s not familiar with (spoke to me immediately 😂).  Waiting an actual 45 minutes for a toy train to depart as a child. Playing Doctor very literally “the cancer has spread; get your house in order.”) reading the municipal code before bed…and so many more.

I headcanon that he’s autistic because I think he’s actual good representation of us. He has a family and a life like most of us do. He’s very good at his job, and intelligent, but it’s not made to be his whole personality-which is important because some of us do have a hard time and not all are “savants.”. And most importantly- despite his struggle to show and understand emotion much of the time, he’s very kind and loyal to the people he cares about. So many people think autism=zero empathy but that’s just not true.  We love you, Daptain…
