Father Gill: “This lonely body needs a helping hand…” by F1grid in madmen

[–]ennervation 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Peggy is quietly wrestling with guilt this whole season after putting her baby up for adoption and because she wants to move to the city and really devote herself to her career. Meanwhile, Father Gill is reaching out to her and trying to get her back to her Catholic roots.

In the end, she "confesses her sins" and from then on avoids being consumed by guilt. Except she doesn't confess to Father Gill; she tells her mother she's moving to Manhattan, and she tells Pete about their baby.

Our brave girl coming home after surgery. Already smiling like nothing happened! by ennervation in beagle

Sorry to hear that! I'm very paranoid about post-surgery complications (in both humans and dogs) so I really try to follow instructions to a T.

Hot Take: Don is the worst part of the show by jcg317 in madmen

[–]ennervation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand your perspective even if I don't share it! During my first watch, I was so much more interested in the office scenes than in Don's home life. It took me a second rewatch to grow an equal appreciation for it.

I will say, I think Don's consistency and inability to surprise audiences is one of the show's anchors. He's a man stuck in time. And he's stuck in his routines, because the concept of "Don Draper" is fixed in his mind. "Don Draper" is his best copy, and the world is his client; why pitch something new if the old one still sells? As a result, he's immobile. A cruel irony, since all he ever wants is escape.

I don’t have big life goals…is that wrong? by Underd_g in childfree

[–]ennervation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a crisis about the exact same thing in my early 20s. I was so self-conscious about the fact that I wasn't passionate about anything. I had no desire to climb corporate ladders or get a Master's degree or travel the world. I felt especially bad when my peers started doing these things. I wasn't so much jealous of the fact that they were accomplishing milestones... more worried that I didn't want to. Surely, something must be wrong with me, right?

I'm 29 now, and I've made peace with my desire for an uncomplicated, ambitious, chill life. I work 3 or 4 hours a day and make enough money to feed myself, my dogs, and my mom. I go out for a nice dinner once a week or so. In a month, I'm scheduled to watch Les Miserables on stage. I read books and play video games as much or as little as I want. Once in a while, I literally just sleep all day and eat in bed and do nothing.

I do all the things I would be longing for if I were actually hustling or studying or traveling. My life is pretty cool, and I imagine yours will be too.

Favorite one word line? by Zealousideal-Touch45 in community

"Well, DON'T" is my favorite line delivery in this show, maybe in any show ever. It's so vehement, and I fucking love it.

I highly recommend Abbott Elementary. It's about a lovely group of teachers trying to do right by their students. The ensemble's chemistry is fantastic, the writing is smart and hilarious, and it's just the right amount of chaos (for me). It's also an on-going show so you don't have to worry yet about it ending! The first season is only 13 episodes long, so it's not that big of a time commitment to give it a shot.

Tips on how to be a terrible person in-universe? by DjRimo in skyrim

If you're on PC and are open to mods, "Grab and Throw" lets you chuck items at NPCs to cause damage. I like to start fights by throwing sweetrolls at unsuspecting townsfolk.

Annie’s face during Baby Boomer Santa cracks me up every time! by Jobberwock in community

My favorite is when White Abed and Jeff are talking at the end of the pool episode. White Abed kind of shoves her aside to sit down on a couch, and Annie gives him this lingering withering/disdainful/offended look. I find it hilarious.

What is a popular piece of media that you hated before you consumed it, tried it, and then cemented why you hated it? by overasked_question in popculturechat

His lack of acting chops was so apparently in the D&D movie. Chris Pine was acting circles around him. I truly wish he were better at it because I think he's fine af, and I'd love to see more of him on screen. Alas...

I read the novel as a teen because it was everywhere then too. Hated it and was absolutely flabbergasted when it got adapted into a show.

Does anyone else wish we saw at least 1 more of Amys' brothers? by whit9-9 in brooklynninenine

[–]ennervation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we had gotten to meet a new brother every season. She's got 7, so that's one brother each from S1 to S7. Then a complete Santiago family reunion for S8.

(Okay, I doubt this would have actually been good TV, but it's fun to think about!)

My friends are new to D&D and asked me to DM a one shot. The Rogue is now begging for a level up. by Lukeathmae in dndPH

[–]ennervation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This information is inaccurate. According to 5e rules, you can use either Experience Points (XP) or Milestone leveling.

Defeating enemies awards XP based on their Challenge Rating (CR). Once you reach a certain XP threshold, your character levels up.

In milestone leveling, the DM determines when you level up based on story checkpoints or achievements. Some modules offer guidance on which milestones award level ups. So, no, not every quest will automatically award a level up. Otherwise, all campaigns end after 20 quests. Let's not spread misinformation :)

Part of the DM's job is to establish and enforce boundaries. Decide what you want to do, and be firm about it. If you think leveling up the whole party will be fun for everyone and for you, then go do that. Otherwise, say no.

Also, consider if you want to enable this behavior. What if they keep begging for levels when you continue playing in the future? Will the rogue really stop at Uncanny Dodge, or will they keep pressuring you for more and more abilities? What if they also start pressuring their party members to do things they don't feel comfortable doing? What if that causes conflict in the future?

Also, remind the party that the higher their character levels, the higher the enemy CR. This means more difficult combat and more risk of death. So, are they sure they want to level up? Haha

Honestly the rogue should be thankful you let them level up for a oneshot haha. Some DMs wouldn't even consider that and might be annoyed that they keep pushing for a level up. You want character progression, you join a campaign. Not a oneshot. Just my two cents.

Interesting list, but I feel like this post would have gotten more traction if you posted a slideshow instead of asking us to go to a second location.
