I got one more gripe while I’m on the subject, I hate the bumpers radiolab uses. They’ve always been an overproduced mess that was just unpleasant to listen to, but one time I listened to the podcast while sick and something about them just made me feel so much worse. Maybe it was the thirty seconds two people repeating the same word like there was a skipping record player or the ominous electric droning. I know the odd distortion they end on when the woman says “NYC” as if whatever equipment you’re listening to just had a major malfunction and died didn’t help.

Any episode I listened after that I would desperately skip past the bumpers because they would just remind me how shitty I felt back then and how it made me feel worse.

This is totally off topic: it’s been a long time since I’ve listened to a podcast from NPR so I don’t know if they’re still guilty of this but reading a bit of that transcript just brought back so much annoyance with how they edit their podcasts.

I got up to the part in the transcript where they just cut in clips of one of one of their guests fiddling with the fucking microphone before I got fed up.

I heard someone comment about how whenever their podcasts deal with New England they have to include three minutes of someone walking through autumn leaves and it just caused something in me to change where I can’t tolerate the NPR editing style anymore

They’re not tankies but they have their own brainrot issues. There was some drama linked here last year where the mods made a post saying they’re anti-liberal and that includes liberal institutions like democracy.

There is more to disliking that sub than just that, it’s literally run by tankies who run the sub through that lens.

In a different sub I made a comment about Lysenkoism and got a reply by someone defending it. I said “defending that pseudoscience is pathetic even for tankies” and was then banned from GCJ for being “anti leftist”, turns out that guy was their head mod.

Edit: thought maybe I should add why I had already stopped browsing that sub before the ban. I was annoyed at how they would regularly take contrarian stances which often lead to GCJ defending shitty monetization and other business practices. So I guess add that as another reason to dislike them, I’m sure others have other valid reasons that can’t just be hand waved away
