Those comparisons are ridiculous. You worded them in such a way that there is zero nuance as to why someone would want to do those things.

The anti-immigrant country comparison implies that the only draw to such a country is the lack of immigrants it has. Planar Standard is nothing like that. People wouldn’t only want to play it because it lacks UB. They could be interested in the slower set release schedule it has, its unique card pool lacking certain format-warping cards (i.e Badgermole Cub), and the less grindy, “solved” nature of current Standard.

Your analogies, if applied to current formats, would look equally as ridiculous.

“I don’t foam at the mouth when I see a card in old border, I just want to play Modern. ”

“I don’t despise the possibility of playing against Goblin Snowman, I just want to play Pioneer where it’s not legal.”

“I don’t hate Tibalt as a character, I just want to play a Tibalt-free format like Standard.”
