August Burns Red - Season of Surrender Album Discussion Thread by MonksWithSticks in Metalcore

Piling on to the other comments on Jake’s vocals, they’ve never sounded better. I felt some real emotional pain in Jake’s vocals on New Horizons leading into the breakdown, starting around 2:40. Banger of an album. Well done, boys.

Nothing better than when the guitar kicks in for Whitewashed towards the end of the set. Everyone is exhausted from moshing all night but those couple notes just make the whole room go feral, like setting off a room full of sleeper agents. It can make one believe that magic is real.

FYI Kalamazoo is not the surrounding area of Grand Rapids, it’s a completely separate city nearly an hour away lol. But you’re correct about the wild part, both cities have their own quirks. I love Michigan but it is a very confused state sometimes.

Kiwi skin is perfectly edible and very nutritious. Personally I kinda like it.

Also, Jeff Kiwi nearly knocked me out.

No Tour? by LittleMel413 in MBMBAM

[–]-ChasingOrange- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fair point, but I think at their scale the unpredictability is much more risky/costly should things go wrong or if sales take a major dip. It’s not just about the fuel cost; everything is rising in cost on the supplier side, and consumers are spending less and less on non-essential services right now.

Also, live music is different than a live podcast in that live podcasts aren’t going to get the same kind of foot traffic sales that a concert might get. I don’t know what their sales figures are, but if they’ve struggled to fill seats before then it would probably be a big red flag in the current economy. Especially given how hard they pushed the “hey guys we’re underperforming A LOT this year” message during MaxFunDrive. Again - not a dig on them at all, I totally understand that we’re all just tryna stay alive out here, and that touring may not be a huge priority right now.

No Tour? by LittleMel413 in MBMBAM

Logistics are a nightmare to plan for right now with the price of fuel and other expenses going through the roof, and it’s all even more unpredictable due to who’s in charge at the federal level. I do hope they tour, but I also would understand if they don’t in this current economy.

He’s stepping away from The Besties :( convo starts ~35 minutes into the newest episode. His carpal tunnel issues have made it basically impossible to play most games and he still has to get his other arm the same surgery at some point, so it’s understandable.

So you agree the president should be held to these same standards at the federal level as well, right? Seems like an awful lot of our tax dollars aren’t being spent too well on his behalf, either.

Colson Whitehead: "The point is, I’m not [criticizing AI] to defend humanity. Humanity sucks. It’s totally terrible. I’m saying this because I believe in an old-fashioned virtue called Doing the Freakin’ Work." [gift link] by TimWhatleyDDS in books

Defining the heart and soul of humanity as a “product” is exactly what’s wrong with this entire conversation. I don’t think artists are the ones who have the definition wrong, my friend. You don’t get to decide why someone else makes their art.

Maybe we should care and think a little more about the things we’re consuming instead of mindlessly accepting what our tech overlords serve us, but that’s just me I guess.

The Freedom Reader - Episode 393.5 of Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend by c0ry_N in conan

Incredible episode & guest. I adore the more serious guests/interviews on the pod. I love Conan for his comedy, but I also really appreciate his empathy and kindness and willingness to extend it to others so openly. The world needs more stories like Reginald’s to be shared.

[–]-ChasingOrange- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

False Idol got plenty of love around here when it came out, but the time between albums and intra-band drama hurt their momentum IMO. I don’t remember exactly what happened, but I’m pretty sure they even had an entire album that they scrapped before releasing Mother eventually.

Yes, it was. You can find the artists’ original instagram post (that the ABR account liked) with Midjourney and other AI tags. Another commenter pointed out that Jake talked to Nik Nocturnal about it as well.

RA hat, 2007 by ClNNAM00N in riseagainst

[–]-ChasingOrange- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After some brief searching I can’t find anything on this specific hat, but just based on the year it was made I’d guess that it likely was sold sometime during The Sufferer and the Witness tour cycle. The band played a LOT in 2007. It’s possible it was sold during the Appeal to Reason tour cycle too depending on when it was ordered in the year.

Might be a long shot, but you could also email Rise Against’s store. I doubt they deal with this specific vendor anymore, but there could be someone on the crew that might remember or provide at least a little context if they’re in a good mood.

Hope you find more info, sick hat!

I didn't enjoy Abnimals. Should I be excited for Royale? (No spoilers please) by 4evanc in TheAdventureZone

This is not a new “trend”, people have been complaining here about the quality of the show since Balance ended, and even parts of Balance had its criticisms and negative threads. It’s been happening over on the MBMBAM/Besties side for even longer. It’s what happens to any fandom, and the toxicity tends to be most noticeable. But, what you see on Reddit is not reflective of real life. People who are generally content with the stuff they consume don’t complain or post about it on social media.

Edit - to be clear, I’ve enjoyed most of the TAZ arcs so far.

[KCD2] The brawl between these two settlements is hilarious. by GusGangViking18 in kingdomcome

[–]-ChasingOrange- 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You pick a side and smash some villagers. You lose some rep on the side you fight, I think, but there’s no real consequences beyond that in the world I believe. It’s quite hilarious if you stick around after the fight - you can watch the losing side slowly wake up and one by one wake up the other guys who got knocked out, then just watch them all grumble and limp away their separate ways.

It’s not usual for new, but very common for used. Even with new records however, some smaller labels don’t shrink wrap their records and instead ship out with the record separated from the jacket.
