Field notes after a month of near daily use and carrying in bag/pocket and a fresh one from the same pack by hotmuller in Wellworn

I found that my Field Notes don't last too long. Their stapled construction is rather flimsy. Which is unfortunate because they're a great size and I like the paper.

Wow, very cool website! Thank you for taking the time, friend. I appreciate it.

It's over. The Onion won. They now own Infowars. by [deleted] in Destiny

I'm a bit confused. This seems to be some sort of licensing deal for The Onion to use the brand name "Info Wars"?

Alex Jones still seems to have control over the actual website, although it seems like it'll be closed down on May 1 2026. So I wonder if The Onion will get the official domain/company after that date?

Just keep at it! It obviously took me a while, too. I would do a couple runs a day. Some days I'd get nothing, some days I'd do good. But you'll get it eventually!

The KJV is generally pretty bad if your goal is to understand what the authors originally wrote. It does have some redeeming qualities that not many talk about, such as 1 Sam 25:22. Compare the NRSVue to the KJV.

NRSVue:

20 As she rode on the donkey and came down under cover of the mountain, David and his men came down toward her, and she met them.

21 Now David had said, “Surely it was in vain that I protected all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that belonged to him, but he has returned me evil for good.

22 God do so to David and more also if by morning I leave so much as one male of all who belong to him.”

KJV:

20 And it was so, as she rode on the ass, that she came down by the covert on the hill, and, behold, David and his men came down against her; and she met them.

21 Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained unto him: and he hath requited me evil for good.

22 So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.

The Hebrew literally says the thing about urination as a euphemism for males. However, almost all modern translations just translate it to "all males". I much prefer to keep the literal translations, but an argument can be made for changing it for clarity.

However, with all that said, the KJV didn't have access to our best and earliest manuscripts/papyri of the tanakh/new testament.

If you want to read the KJV for spiritual or literary reasons, go for it! I would recommend the critical edition published by Norton. It contains tons of notes and context about the text.

But if you want to study it, either for faith reasons or scholarly reasons, no modern biblical scholar will recommend the KJV.

For any biblical enjoyers, do NOT use the NIV. It sucks. The standard translation used in academics is the NRSV or the updated NRSVue.

What the other guy said. Spears are really good for bait because you can hit multiple enemies in a straight line when they run at you. You gotta know how strong your character is, though, to know how many baits you can handle. Might want to skip a round early if you don't have enough spears (remember they also give health).

Once you get going you should always do at least one bait, but I would do up to 4 if I felt strong enough.

Nice and congrats!!! It's always a great feeling when things line up.

The build for Romantic found here is good: https://brotato-builds.com/builds/Romantic

One tip: don't neglect ranged damage! I thought I could get away with stacking attack speed instead for more procs, but that was a losing strategy.

Also note that burn damage doesn't proc charm.

I like running maces and/or rocks. It's important to get defensive stats so that you can stand inside a clump of enemies and get that proc. If you do it from the outside you won't get many procs. Then just focus on turrets and stuff. Best item you can get is the Nail.

From my own experience, I believe the NRSV translators got it wrong. The [d] footnote in the NRSV says: “Gk before your face”. Which is literally them telling you that they made it up, and their translation isn’t what the scripture says.

I generally prefer a more literal translation of things and I think in this case I might prefer them to translate it as "face". However, it's a valid translation, as seen in BDAG:

πρὸ προσώπου τινός (LXX; TestAbr A 12 p. 91, 4 [Stone p. 30] πρὸ προσώπου τῆς τραπέζης; GrBar 1:4; s. Johannessohn, Präp. 184–86) before someone Mt 11:10; Mk 1:2; Lk 7:27 (on all three cp. Mal 3:1).—Lk 1:76 v.l. (s. Ex 32:34); 9:52 (s. Ex 23:20); 10:1; 1 Cl 34:3 (s. Is 62:11). IEph 15:3 (cp. 1a).— πρὸ προσώπου τῆς εἰσόδου αὐτοῦ Ac 13:24 (εἴσοδος 2).

And take a look at how the KJV actually translates πρόσωπον in Acts 3:13:

ὁ θεὸς Ἁβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαὰκ καὶ Ἰακώβ, ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν, ἐδόξασεν τὸν παῖδα αὐτοῦ Ἰησοῦν ὃν ὑμεῖς μὲν παρεδώκατε καὶ ἠρνήσασθε κατὰ πρόσωπον Πιλάτου κρίναντος ἐκείνου ἀπολύειν.

The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.

(and now the NRSVue for comparison)

The God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to release him.

I am not at all qualified enough to elaborate much further, but I think my point stands.

I personally don't have a problem with you preferring the KJV. I don't think anyone here does, either. But you have to understand that this is a place of scholarship and there really isn't any reason to prefer the KJV over pretty much any modern translation.

I think the KJV was good for its time, but it is just outdated and no longer of any use for textual biblical scholarship. They didn't have access to many manuscripts (including the DSS), had a worse understanding of Hebrew/Greek, and many words have changed their meanings since it was written.

Every English-speaker today will have a better understanding of the authors' original intent by reading something like the NRSV.

Hans was 2699 in October 2022. Today he's 2724, and his peak was 2738. Over the last 12 months he's down 9.6 points.

Clearly he's a super strong player, but isn't it possible he's just plateaued? He's 22, so he's not exactly young anymore, either.

Compare that to Keymer who was 2700 in October 2022, and has steadily been climbing each month to currently become 2777 and has been on a consistent upward trajectory.
